Great advice as usual. Speaking for myself, 80 minutes of vigorous exercise EVERYDAY completely changed my health. No more cholesterol problems, no more high blood pressure, and without trying I started craving less sugar. My answer to “how do you do it?” is start with exercise everyday and the rest will follow.

Hi Dr. Mandell. I do thank you for your great, informative videos!!! I have been taking cholesterol medications for more than 10 years, and after watching your videos about the disastrous side effects of statins, I've decided to stop taking them for a while and watch the reading of my cholesterol. After one week of not taking statins, my reading were as follows: HDL51.6 (normal range 35 - 80), LDL 140 (normal range 100-160), VLDL 26 (normal range 20-40), TRIGLYCERIDES 131 (normal range 10 - 190). TOTAL CHOLESTROL 217 (normal range 30 - 200). How come all the readings are fine and within the normal range , but my total cholesterol is high? I just can't figure it out! And do I really need to take cholesterol medications?

I'm told that statins are not good for you can I incorporate your suggestions of exercise, no triglycerides, packaged and processed food, cakes, sugars, etc to avoid taking statins. Please respond to my post as I am really looking for a natural holistic means to maintain a healthy HDL and achieve optimum health? Thank you and God bless you, Dr. Mandel!! 🙏

Cholesterol is the precursor to all hormones and you need vitamin D + exercise to use it, if you let it build up then it starts to form a plaque, so in a sense getting sunlight and exerting yourself / getting circulation going is similar to brushing your teeth, if you don't give your body the chance to use the cholesterol and you keep putting cholesterol into your body without allowing yourself to metabolize it, then of course it builds up, it's not just a harmful waste molecule, it is the building block of our hormones and it's necessary for life, we just get out of balance with an indoor sedentary lifestyle

I have the Chia seeds, I'll give them a try because everything else has failed. (I don't, and won't take meds) My reading has been 220 no matter what diet, weight, or exercise. At 117 weight, eating a veg diet with no fats, doing manual labor, that required me to run up and down a slab of concrete for 8 hrs, and drinking veg juice, vegs from my garden. I was surprised at the high reading. My gram had the same reading and she kept herself trim and fit. Didn't eat prepared foods or any crap foods. I've never been able to change the reading no matter what I have tried. My overweight co-worker ate junk, smoked, etc, however, he had a low reading. It's got to be in the genes.

Your situation is interesting. A year ago at age 63 I weighed 209 lbs. I had a bad CAC score of 436. My cholesterol was 181. HD score was 46 and my LDL was 119. Tryglycerides was 64. My cardiologists recommended statins and I said no. I went on low carb diet and increased exercise. After one year my weight is 170 and I feel pretty good. Well my cholesterol is now 200. My LDL is now 130 and tryglycerides score is 70. Maybe the chia seeds will help me. I don't want to take statins the rest of my life.
