Jesus I was always thinking why my slide by doesn't work although I'm pushing+ moving out of the way etc. The straightening of the arm is crucial. I'm trying that thanks Brian

If I only was able to view this before rolling yesterday; buddy and I were trying stand up takedowns starting in pretty much this position (couldn't quite get the throw by setup exactly, but I got a collar tie).

Thanks Coach I was recommended to master this technique for my mma game bc I often end up in collar tie position, being primarily a striker. I find it hard to pull that arm through so I’m watching this repeatedly to get those small details down. I know it’s gonna be worth it! And once I get that down, there’s a foot sweep combo I’ve been seeing a lot lately done by the top guys like Gordon

This is one of my three favorite takedowns and they are all upper body.

Yes. The other two ?
@adriansrfr2 жыл бұрын
First is basically a quarter Nelson. For instance, get right underhook. Grab your left wrist, with you left hand pushing opponents head away. Ridiculous leverage. 2nd is from dual head and arm tie-up. Come over the top of their right arm and grab your right bicep. Ridiculous power and leverage. These three here are all just low risk, high reward upper body takedowns.

@@KingLouieJones, I thought I saw coach Brian teach it, but I cannot find it. I can give you a better picture. This has coach Brian in a collar tie. He doesn't do it here, but imagine if coach Brian used his left arm to go over (instead of under like he does in the video below) his opponents right arm and then grab his own right bicep (like a sleeper-hold position). If you lock that in, your throwing power will virtually double. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4fZdWecl9aparsm0s

I hit this constantly against bjj wrestlers, since most don't have any stand-up wrestling skills in their arsenal. They just hang on to my collar like a wet towel; it's Slide-by city all day.

Coach is this the sidakov slide by that you have showed us before?

It is but it isn't. The core technique is the same but Sidakov does his a little bit different. I do not think most people can do his version. I recommend what I teach here for everyone.

No, it's not the most efficient. A double leg is the most efficient takedown. A slide-by is a good tool, but if you don't have anything else in your kit, you'll never hit it. A slide-by requires a setup (or at least bad positioning by your opponent).
@TeachMeGrappling Жыл бұрын
Everyone has preferences on the best move to use. That’s for the individual. The active word is efficient… sure there are efficient double legs at times but the double leg is by far not even close to the efficiency as a slide by or duck under. A foot sweep would be another in the high efficiency category. Also… every move requires your opponent to be out of position/off balanced. I don’t want to be combative… just trying to educate.

@@TeachMeGrappling If that were true then the slide-by/Duck under would be the first moves taught to Jr. Wrestlers and White Belts. But it's not. A single or a double leg is. Because the success rate on a single or double is far higher than a slide-by. To hit a slide-by your opponent has to be reaching. If you try to just hit it without your opponent being off balance or caught reaching, you're giving up a takedown. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck on your slide-bys.
