They literally had Santa make a solid argument for not giving her the role of Santa - her hating kids - but still offered her a compromise of getting everything she wanted except the title of Santa, and she refused & flipped him off Why do they make these characters so insufferable but expect you to root for them?

In the show, Santa himself stated that the reason Candy wasn't made Santa was because she hated kids and didn't want to work with them. He even gave her helpful advice to be a better person, but she told him to go F himself, and it turned out Santa was a drug dealer.

The fact that it's in Stop Motion is just so insulting, an incredible medium like that deserves a way better show than this..... As a matter of fact, every animator that works on any adult animated cartoons deserves way better material than what we have, ya know, let's put those skill into creativity not politics and vulgarity (Is that a word, ah who cares)
@foxtoons1999

You wanna know what’s also insulting? This show is stop motion like those old Christmas specials you watched on TV as a kid, and yet it doesn’t feel like a genuine tribute. There have been quite a few stop motion Christmas specials (It’s a SpongeBob Christmas, the Eureka episode Do You See What I See? (although that episode dabbled in all sorts of different animation styles, and is my favorite episode for that reason), the Community episode Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas) done as loving and respectful tributes to those old specials AND Christmas! Meanwhile this show? This show seems to HATE Christmas and almost everything it stands for. It doesn’t feel like a loving tribute to something they watched as a kid, nor does it even feel like a lighthearted parody/pastiche like Shrek was of fairy tales. It feels almost malicious.

They actually DO say why she doesn't get the job, she isn't good with kids. Santa flat out explains it to her, and he isn't even wrong about it. What he DOES offer her instead is literally every other aspect of the job and power, sans dealing with kids and the title. Which means she gets the job she wants, sans the part she doesn't like and a fucking title. Theoretically that's even better than getting the job, cause if the company fucks up they might go after the person with the title instead of her.

The concept of a female Santa was done right with the Disney Plus original movie Noelle. Issue is, the execution of such interesting premise was significantly butchered here. Rogen's response is quite ironic because he himself is Jewish, but overall, Santa Inc was so bad, it didn't get a second season, was removed from Max, and available on Tubi for an eternity(which was the coal given to such an unfunny mess that didn't last long). Best thing about the show unironically was the use of stopmotion animation, which played tribute to the Rankin-Bass specials. Granted, stopmotion is difficult to make, and is more expensive than traditionally animated and CGI shows combined. It takes enough talent and manpower to make films and television through stopmotion or claymation. Ever wonder why Laika(formerly Will Vinton Studios) and Aardman were the only studios recognized by Hollywood to use stopmotion as an art form? Despite the issues mentioned earlier, they've tried their hardest for the projects they create to entertain and amaze people who want stunning works outside of the two primary animation styles. Santa Inc does the complete opposite, and though Stoopid Buddy Studios did great with the show's animation, they deserve better material to work on than a failed yuletide comedy Max didn't care for(and rightfully so).

Tbh I think Arthur Christmas Did a better job depicting the whole concept of Santa being treated like a corporation (tho in that movie it’s more like a military force) Steve in that movie is Basically a better version of Candy. He knows he basically the brains of the operation at this point and believes that doing things like training the elves, helping to create new technologies to help aid their mission and orchestrating every Christmas night is enough to make him qualified as the role of Santa. However because of him spending most of his time in what is essentially a desk job and never really doing any ground work we come to slowly realise that he’s actually pretty bad with kids due seeing most them as a statistic on a screen and not as actual people he realises at the end of the movie he lacks that emphatic element to qualify him as the role of Santa And instead of him lashing out at his father for pointing this out to him (looking at you Candy) he instead realises his shortcomings and swallows his pride to aid his brother on continuing to be the brains of the operation while Arthur takes over the role of Santa. Honestly Santa Inc. could learn a thing or two from this movie

Honestly the whole "elves are jewish angle" was such an odd decision to take in this show. It feels like a shield from criticism (like that's how Rogen says it's nothing but white supremacists hating the show cause they antisemitic) but it kinda cements how they don't get the concept of christmas. Not even in a religious sense/context either but it's so perplexing to see how much Candy pushes her Judasim onto a Holiday that's not hers, hell the fact there isn't even any land related to Channukah or Passover just feels so off and kinda gives off the why they never grasped what Christmas is actually about, they just want to piggy back and mooch off the popularity of it. There has been multiple holiday specials about sharing the holiday and going with the universal message of "It's the family, friends, and people you know that make the holidays what they are" It's so odd that Eight Crazy Nights does the dual holiday season feeling so much better than this mini series

This is how the western world treats its own citizens vs non taxed yet tax benefit receiving illegal aliens, and yes, the refugee system is so broke because it makes money for the government and takes it from the people. ONE SINGULAR illegal alien getting benefits is wrong. Want a better life? Work for it. Candy is a very unlikable protagonist whose main goal doesn’t make sense. She wants to be a female Santa but doesn’t want to do the main job of Santa which is being kind to children, as Candy despises children. The creators even want us to sympathize with Candy after Santa tells why he didn’t chose her to be his replacement (because she hates kids) for a very valid reason yet we’re supposed to view Santa as in the wrong?
@angelsartandgaming
@angelsartandgaming Ай бұрын
And what's worse is that this concept could have worked! The idea of a character wanting to be Santa but not liking kids could work. Imagine if Candy's goal was that she wants to be Santa not because she likes giving gifts to the kids or even spreading joy to them, but she wants to be Santa because of the idea of being a massive icon and being beloved by everyone, having her face on toys, TV shows, movies, songs, food, and everything. Being the face of Christmas is enticing. Basically Candy wants to be a celebrity of the highest form. But Santa still wants to preserve the idea of giving to kids and seeing their joy all over the world. Christmas may be commercialized now, but he refuses to let the old meaning die. It could have been a very interesting foil and even kind of a symbolism of the commercialized version of Christmas versus traditional Christmas.

When you understand Rogan's work to some extent, you'll notice that a lot of his work hits a really strong point before completely detailing into the abyss like a family guy cutaway gag. I honestly think this film had a better script originally, but it got lost during production as everyone started laying in their own ideas and "jokes." Partly because it's easy to say that Seth Rogan is an easily influenced person. Especially when he gets high. I have a theory that part way through the production, when Rogan was getting the most stoned to cope with stress, Silverman made the suggestion of subverting the plot. She's a renown narcissist/3rd wave feminist who was basically playing a self-insert anyway. When you know who she is as a persont this stubborn refusal for her character to learn and change, in the face of the reality presented, makes all the more sense. But that's just my theory about why it all went south. There's so much more to this that could have been done differently and completely avoided this situation altogether.

In Finland, we have a tradition of Christmas carols that take a stand, criticize modern Christmas and oppose consumerism. For example, the song "Joulupukki on" (Santa Claus is) by Otis tells how Santa Claus is a conman and friends merchants and because of this we are sold plastic neo-traditions and only those who have money in their account can receive Christmas presents and yet even the latest PlayStation is not enough for our children. A more well-known and traditional Christmas song is "Sika" (Pig) by Juice Leskinen, and the purpose of the song is to make the listener think about whether the real pig is an animal that ends up as a Christmas ham on the Christmas table or a person who celebrates Christmas like a mindless consumerist zombie. A less well-known song is "Joulupukki on muuttanut mielensä" (Santa Claus has changed his mind) by Mikko Alata and it tells how Santa has had enough of humanity and comes to the conclusion that no one deserves Christmas presents because selfishness, indifference and heartlessness increases at the same pace as consumerism grows and Christmas has become a festival of strife, gluttony and greed.

I feel like if they removed the aggressively political and gross aspects of it, you would've had a story about an elf trying to better a version of the north pole that's a company and not a charity. (And in a similar vein of what you mentioned about the working class, it could've been a story about the little guy standing against the corporate giant) Don't make it about white men or whatever, make it about how when you focus on your bottom line and not the people you claim to help or make happy, everyone is left with emptiness in their heart. (Akin to The Grinch or Rudolph, this message isn't restricted to a certain time period) Also they could've employed mythology a lot better than "hey look at that character!". They could've tied them into a larger theme (like what Rise Of The Guardians did with the idea of Centers) instead of just making it just the fact that other holiday companies exist. (Which confuses me in the case of Cupid)

Honestly, the concept of a character who wants to be in a job that has to deal with kids but doesn't like kids themselves is a very interesting one in concept. Like imagine someone wanting to be a teacher, but that person doesn't like kids. What they want to do instead as a teacher is have the ability to lend off their skills to others or wants to be seen as this massive role model. I think that sort of idea could play off really well as the Christmas elf who wants to be Santa but doesn't necessarily like kids. Because as Santa you are this icon and the face of an entire holiday that's celebrated worldwide. The idea of being beloved worldwide is enticing. It's the common trope of wanting to be famous And beloved by everyone. Your face and image is on merch of everything. Who wouldn't want that? However, to be the face of the holiday, you also have to interact and be the hero to the thing you hate. And that's children. In a better written show I could see the main character elf girl's selfishness as her big character flaw. Much like how Bojack Is in BoJack Horseman. His main flaw is his narcissism and selfishness. Even when he wants to do right, his own ego and his own self comes first. The episode where Santa calls her out is absolutely perfect. And heck maybe her rejecting Santa's advice could still add to the arc. Because the thing she wants is not to be a hero to the kids, but self ideolation. For people to just love her for just being the face. And the moment she leaves, That's when it would have been a perfect time for her to question why she can't get the position. She's doing everything right. Obviously! At least in her own head she is. And maybe she starts to observe how the actual chosen Santa works. Both out of jealousy but also trying to figure out what he has that she doesn't. The idea that maybe they're even foils to one another is an interesting idea. The chosen Santa loves kids but could care less about being adored by everyone. Maybe the pressure becomes too much and He regrets his new Santa position. All in all I really hated the show not because it was bad (Because it is though that is a main reason), But because I saw so much missed potential in it. Heck, you could still do some of the political commentary within it. Like the idea that Christmas is so commercialized that the original message of caring And giving to those who are in need has long been lost. The fact that a Santa Inc exists as this huge company could come into question as well. Again had it had its cards played right and didn't become Velma before Velma, I think this probably would have been one of my favorite shows. It could have been the Christmas version of Moral Orel and I love Moral Orel.

Actually gonna go out on a limb here and say something controversial, there’s nothing wrong inherently with putting politics into an adult oriented show about Christmas because there’s a lot you can comment on there. What I think failed to win over most people is that show offers pretty much nothing else for anyone outside of the very thin margins they were reaching in leftist communities. Just wanted to give my 2 sense on the matter, as I lot of the reviews I have seen seem to go along the lines of “political/social commentary=bad” which isn’t necessarily true.

Upon finishing watching for the first time stop motion movies "Jack Frost" and "Willy McBean and his Magic Machine", despite what would be considered today as flaws, I'll jeopardize myself by stating I didn't become dizzy watching either. Pablo was a stereotype, no doubt about that, but he did tell a T-Rex to put 'em up and by all technicalities won.

- Not only did that stupid speech about there being only one time of the year a kid gets presents just for being them miss the point of Christmas, but KIDS GET PRESENTS ON THEIR BIRTHDAYS! - I don't think Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is in the public domain yet. Did the rights holders of Rudolph sign off on this? --- 5:22 It's very likely that a lot of those those racist people that enter the a genuine discussion are employees of the studio or a marketing firm that they hire. They know their movie sucks and is going to bomb, so they plant their own racists and then say their show failed because of racists. Sony did something similar in the KZbin comments section of their Ghostbusters reboot trailer. They deleted all of the comments with constructive criticism but did not delete the racist comments. I and many others saw the non-racist comments disappear as it happened. Years prior, Sony got sued for false advertising and lost after they made up their own fake movie critic, David Manning, to say positive things about their movies so they could have these positive quotes in their advertising. If they were willing to do that, then they aren't above making their own racist comments.

9:09 I disagree, as someone who is a atheist who celebrates Christmas I don’t care about Jesus, but when 2 Jews who dont even celebrate Christmas then make a film about Christmas then yeah they should acknowledge the religion behind the holiday.

Am I the only one who thinks the conversation between Santa and Candy is a conversation that Seth Rogen and/or Sarah Silverman has had in the past? They were up for a particular job or project and were turned down for completely legitimate reasons, and instead of taking the reasons at face value they made up a narrative in their head and got a chip on their shoulder about it? Their reaction to the criticism of this show lends credence to this idea.

Yeah I'd remembered Santa Inc. and it was a terrible Christmas mini-series that has the terrible stop motion animation compared to Robot Chicken and as almost as BAD with it's characters and writing it's almost as BAD as Velma steer clear of this Garbage you're better off re-watching those Rank/Bass Holiday Specials or ELF or Klaus those will get you in the Christmas Spirit while Santa Inc. will make you as Grumpy as Scrooge Don't Watch Santa Inc.
