We all know the FCC banned cigarette commercials back in 1971. But what if they were to be revived, or were never banned, and started to follow the practice of "truth in advertising?" We just might get something like this, showing how smoking can actually kill you, and it's actually pretty funny!

If anyone wants context,this is from episode 51 of Pinky and the Brain, Which could be considered the "Very Special Episode" of the series, as it discusses tobacco consumption, And they did not skip on any detail in terms of hanfling the topic. Long story short, Brain becomes the mascot of the tobacco company they tested on him earlier, and two vital conflicts of the episode revolve Brain getting a tobacco addiction from the experiments, and Pinky concerned about Brain pushing it way too far with this new plan due to the dangers the company could potentially bring, Specially the cigars being smoked by children.

Here in the UK, cigarette billboard ads ran until shortly into 2003! One brand (don’t remember which one) ran ads saying stuff like “Longer than my newt” and “Longer than 2 fat ladies”, then there were the Lambert & Butler ads where we see a guy and a butler have funny conversations and… that’s all I can remember. The VERY last cigarette billboard I saw was in 2003, which depicted the Lambert and Butler duo blurred, with the butler saying “Looks like we’ve ben outlawed sir”, the then-upcoming ban on billboard advertising of tobacco being mentioned above the usual health warning!

I love it when non-smokers say that smokers can just quit as if it was as easy as quitting anything else. Cigarettes were pushed on children when I grew up in the 1980s and 1990s at public schools. Even my daycare, my Kindergarten class picture from 1981 has a KOOL's cigarette advert in the picture with Snoopy and Charlie Brown. At my elementary school they had Marlboro and Camel adverts as cartoons while we waited in line to go to lunch. I remember a parent asking about that once and a teacher said it was for them not the children and when the parent asked why it was cartoon adverts the teacher said, "We like cartoons.". In Middle School, we students had our own smoking section. That was 1989 to 1992. They got us young. I'm 47 and still smoke. I've quit many times over the years; nothing works. Vaping worked for awhile but I had to go back to cigs, the cost was too much. It helped my Aunt stop smoking 'cause she could regulate the level of nicotine she received and I tried that but it didn't work for me. I tried switching to Snuss but afterwhile I was just smoking while on Snuss. I tried the gum but it made me gag. The patch: smoked while wearing the patch. Some of us lifers are just fucked.

I smoked 25 years, I was able to quit with Zyn. It isn't a magic bullet though. You still have to break the psychological aspect of it. Unfortunately, that takes some time. But after a long enough while, not only do u not want a cigarette, even the thought of it seems absurd and gross.

@@vinsanity982 I'm a violent guy from constant abuse as a child. I do many things to keep my calm, and cigarettes weaken one physically; and psychologically I know that. The physical addiction isn't the hard part for me; that goes away after 30 days but I've been told by friends and family: I'm 1,000x worse off cigarettes than on them and while that's not really a worthwhile excuse, I do have a violent temper, and anything to keep those around me safe from my anger issues which aren't fixable. I'm allergic to many medications (primarily pain killers but other medications, too) and back in 1997 I got into a car accident that broke my left collarbone, collapsed my right lung; my head hit the windshield twice, my left knee was pressed up against the steering wheel (which broke my knee) and my right leg went through the windshield (my left leg ended up through the windshield when I tried to kick it out; I was in the middle of nowhere for more than an hour bleeding to death before someone finally came), and blood was everywhere except my butt ('cause I was sitting on it) and they gave me morphine on the helicopter EVAC to the nearest hospital 87 miles away and I started to convulse and they forgot I was allergic to morphine, and then my ears started bleeding. Apparently I have sensitive eardrums and I can't be at certain altitudes (above or below sea level) and I remember them asking me about it in recovery, "Why didn't you tell us you couldn't fly?" And I said, "Dude, I found out when you did." Anyway, my point is: cigarettes (and marijuana but I don't smoke marijuana; I have but it doesn't sit well with me; not allergic but it makes me ill) are the only drugs I can take as pain killers. Can't even take aspirin. It gives me massive headaches which is ironic. I got Viral Bronchotis a couple of years ago and it took away, instantly, the physical and mental addiction of cigarettes and I didn't smoke for 6 months but then when I recovered from it, the mental addiction came back. So, as I said: some of us are just fucked.
