This hit at the core of my marriage/divorce. We didn’t bring each other peace. I would always say “he prays, goes to Hajj and has done multiple umrahs, is good person..” but the anger management issue was a red flag since before marriage and I chose to ignore it. 20 years later, 4 children, and divorced. Sure, a part of it is your brain playing you and because you are at a very vulnerable situation you can't really decide clearly for yourself. But think about it for a second, the thinking of "look for love" is what breeds this sad misfortunes, most of the time. Thankfully, there are absolutely beautiful relationships out of this mentality but we can't really deny that majority of them are unfortunate. Therefore, look for peace. I was married at age 24 to someone I knew was wrong for me but due to family pressure I gave in. He had mental illness that was not disclosed until after marriage when he could no longer hide it. But I felt bad to leave until I was abused in many ways so I left. I hope young people who get married only marry for the right reasons and do not do this just to please family and meet certain age expectation.

However, this is a very tricky question to ask your future spouse: What gives you peace? For majority of females these days (I am not giving a % number so that people do not get offended), ultimately what gives them peace is $$. Knowing the fact that sustenance is ordained by Allah Subhana Hu Wa Ta'ala, how do you give them peace???

According to Quran, Men need 1 thing: provide, women need 2 things: obey and be faithful (no betrayal). It is in sourate 4 verse 34. Working to achieve these qualities will give most of the peace needed to both.

@@fabbydabby7194 I think that majority of fights in a couple are due to ego or betrayal. So if your wife submit to you, then there is way less drama/fight, so more peace. If she also behave in a way that shows her loyalty to you, then your trust in her will grow and with it your peace. If you provide, you will « build » for her a place where she will feel at home and in security, so at peace. And she also will respect you for that, which will make it even more easier for her to submit. So even more peace in your relationship. I think that with these foundations you can build a love that will last. I think that is why God said that. Knowing more of male/female psychology can probably help find other reasons as to why God said that.

@@fabbydabby7194 It’s true that in today’s feminist world, in many countries women can work like men. Even though they take no pleasure in providing, like men do. But I wasn’t talking about feminist « bible » and feminist men/women. I was talking about Quran and muslim(a). According to God, the husband is only required to provide, not be a « great guy ». It’s the women’s job to work on submission and loyalty. If she feels entitled to some Hollywood prince because she can work, it’s her problem, she needs to deal with it, or face ending up alone/divorced and dealing with her bad choices at a later age. On this matter, I can understand that in our time many women overestimate their value and they are lost because no one tells them when they are wrong and everyone pedestalize them, pandering to them, and always find a way to blame men for their mistakes. Going to any social media make it clear that the trend is to pandering to women. But imo no man with a little dignity will deal with that nor commit to a marriage with such a girl, because it’s obvious that girls who look for a « great guy » can’t bring peace and are unfit for marriage. Earth is wide and there are plenty of feminine traditional women in it, even non muslim one, if you are looking for peace. So don’t limit your horizon, enjoy and build your family if that’s what you want. If you provide, and are muslim, then trust me you are plenty « great ». Don’t let feminist belittle you.

Provide (only) it’s not enough, it comes with other characteristics, if your husband brings money but treats u like trash no person will feel at peace with him, all things have to have a balance and if he is a good Muslim he will not treat u like trash, that’s not the definition of Muslim in the first place, remember , in Islam it’s not all about you relationship with Allah it’s also about tryout relationship with His creation therefore even if rightfully u are full filing your obligation (a relationship can’t be based on fulfilling duties only we aren’t in a corporation) u will still b harming them as a human being, so yeah there must b always a balance and work to improve as a Muslims and therefore as human beings
