This wildly popular Chinese takeaway recipe may be beneath most of your famous TV and KZbin chefs but nothing is beneath me, so here it is. Chips, egg fried rice and curry sauce. I would always get this when I was younger because foreign tastes scared me and I was frightened I may get grissly bits in my meat if anyone apart from my mam made it. Thankfully my palate matured - but my tastes didn't really. And so I always like to revisit this dish to remind myself how far I've come in life.

I’d still get this over any other takeaway - simple, basic grub but it’s cheap, you know it’ll fill you up, AND it tastes good, what more could you want..? There’s a place for Michelin stars but it sure ain’t most of our bank balances!

That part (right after the dog's ass) where you rough up the spuds... I find a spoon of baking soda in the water starches up the fries nice. A bit of salt during the pre-oil toss beats them up too. I used to order chicken curry in a pub here (in New Jersey). More for the McDonnell's curry sauce and the rice (or chips) than the chicken. Cant wait to see your sauce recipe. Good luck!

My local Chinese takeaway back home in Ireland calls this a 3-in-1. Its served in a long aluminum foil tray with a cardboard lid and it's the dogs after a night in the pub.

Watching this after a cider sesh yesterday as left me craving carbs😋 looks incredible! though nothing will beat your deep fried chip butty with curry sauce...that was out of this world. Keep 'em coming fella

Bang on! Remember 'Wans' in Ormskirk where I was a student did this connoisseur's combo in a single large foil tray complete with large plastic fork - excellent for consumption on the way home from the pub when hand eye co-ordination was perhaps not all it might have been earlier in the day... Chuck a bit of bicarb of soda (around 1/2-3/4 tsp per portion of chips) into your water when you boil the potatoes - breaks them up nicely and reduces boiling time to about 7 mins.

My fave takeaway in the 80s was about a mile out of Shepherd's Bush. I was v poor then and when I had money I would get Special Fried Rice, sweet n sour chicken in breadcrumbs & chips. Their special rice had loads of char sui bits and plenty of oyster sauce and/or hoi sin. My mouth is watering like Homer Simpson's after seeing a Ribwich just thinking about it now.

I've had curry rice and chips loads of times and make it at home, as well as chips cheese and gravy which is an Isle of Mann staple. I would like to see a curry battered bun recipe if you have had that before.

That's a new one for me. My initial concern was having two starches, both of which are fried. Then I thought about Chinese fast food in the US and realized that nearly every combo meal is anchored with a giant pile of rice, a giant pile of noodles, or a giant pile of half rice/half noodles. On top of that are one or two selections of meat and veg, most of which have spent time in a wok with oil. After that realization, this dish looks positively Keto. I'm looking forward to the sauce video.

This must be a UK specific thing as I never heard of fried rice, french fries, and curry sauce in that combination in my entire life. This is a man who grew up in a Chinese household. However, if do make this dish I would not get lazy on the fried rice portion. At the very least cook the day old rice in the pan and add the soy sauce around the edge of the pan as it will allow some caramelization of sauce with the rice and please don’t skip green onions aka scallions. But in all seriousness I think the combination should taste good despite it being carb heavy.

Never done that with rice and chips. Instead I prefer to make that double chips and double sauce. And yes, I am overweight... lol

Not in the 80s mate. I didn't see a clove of garlic until I was 17. Also, there's MSG in the rice, the egg AND the curry sauce lol
