The most popular Christmas toys in Wales/UK throughout the decades (1960s to 1990s)

Now that Christmas is over and all the presents have been opened, it’s time for that part of the Christmas period where all the adults tell the children how much better toys were when they were children. Toys such as footballs, bikes, Barbie dolls, He-man, Care Bears, Action man and many more… In this video we are going to look at some of the most popular toys in Wales during the 1960’s all the way to the 1990’s.

A few toys/games I had as a kid in the sixties/seventies. Spirograph, Hot Wheels, Escalado, Round the Bend, Railroader, Triang Scooter, Cadburys Chocolate Machine, Frustration, Meccano and The Beetle game. Who else remembers these? Great video as ever, Jason. Blwyddyn Newydd Dda o Fanceinion.

I was a sindy girl and my other memorable Christmas present was spirigraph toothed wheels and rings that worked a bit like gears to draw amazing intricate patterns.

Interesting there was no difference from Wales to US. I feel like because t.v. is so different, everything else pop-culture is as well, so it's surprising to hear all the popular toys were the same. I always enjoyed getting plush animals (my favorite was a kangaroo, lol - I'm American). One of those who didn't subscribe to the gender-bias in toys, I enjoyed transformers, Voltron, blocks, erector-sets, computer games, and musical instruments. I did get a bicycle for Christmas when I was 5 (along with the kangaroo, which I still have at 46 years old, lol). Best Christmas ever, apparently. 🙂
