Man I live in New Mexico my Dad and His family were Ranchers my uncle has it now. I remember going as a kid to brand and cut nuts. I loved it but no matter how hard I try with my one cow, three pigs, lamb, and small garden I'm stuck being a electrician. I love watching your channel and hope you get subsidies from my views you and your family deserve it. Love to sport a hat or a shirt from you if possible. Don't stop living the American Dream.

I told my husband one day that I wanted manure for my garden. We put on our thinking caps and finally remembered a horse stable. So we set out hoping to make it a successful trip. You just never know what the outcome will be. When we arrived there was a sign that said, FREE MANURE --- WE MAKE IT FRESH DAILY. I was thrilled, tomatoes just aren't the same without it.

Quite the audience you got there Mike! Back in the late '60's and '70's, my folks use to fertilize our yard lawn with the homemade stuff. We had the greenest lawn around! My bro and I couldn't play on it until it was watered in. About a week. Have a great week Mike. Looking forward to more of Erin's gardening videos!! #springfever

I like your videos very much, man. I'm a Brazilian and work as an EFL teacher, and came across your channel after searching about conservative states in the US and learning about Wyoming. I'm in my 40's, am a city guy, and live in a big city (BH, Brazil), but spent some time in the country and going to farms. Your channel helps me improve my English, but it also reminds me of the smell of nature and farm animals. Greetings from down on the map!

Did you know that cow poo can also make electricity? If you get a Manure digester it removes the smell and that gas smell is used by a generator to produce power, and people won't complain about the smell either. Handy stuff as long as you feed your livestock.

Hi Mike! When I first learned of cow patties and the pioneers, I HAD TO try that out. Being raised on a dairy farm, the cow patties weren't a problem, but finding them in the right condition was . I already knew the dry but fresher stuff didn't burn or even smolder, so figuring buffalo or longhorn pies were left to get extremely dry and possibly rinse out in the rain, I searched for some pies out from the barn a good ways. Sure enough, THOSE did burn, but just a smoldering kind of burn, like corn cobs will do. Any how I'm glad it was you lit the patty in the barn and not me. Thanks for posting!

The farmers here in the pacific northwest use liquid poo on their corn fields. I believe it is feed stock. We spread and raked our fields. Also have more rain to help break it down. We used one field for fall and winter. Two others for spring and summer. These would also get raked after the cattle were moved. It worked well and gave us plenty of grass. I believe the liquid gold would provide your dry land the most benefit. Great show as always, thanks.

Morning I learned this in my scout troop Leave a manure paddy in the sun turning daily until it is completly dry u can determine this by breaking in half Once dry put in a fire pit and light adding as needed produces an amazing amount of heat It only basically simmers but is like charcoal and produces heat with very little smoke if it is completly dry
@frankirwin1445
@frankirwin1445 5 жыл бұрын
Your right Larry. A dry clump will produce good heat for a fire source. Gathered into a compost pile produces another source of heat that can be harnessed to provide heat in those cold winter months thereby eliminating expensive heating via natural gas etc.

When I lived in Stavanger, Norway, I discovered that "manure tea" was a really big deal (growing up in Indiana, I had only seen/worked with the solid variety). It was stored all winter and then SPRAYED on the fields in the Spring. I put "sprayed" in caps because (a) some of the sprayers were enormous, and (b) the wind was always blowing the wrong way ;-)

When I was growing up in western foothills of the Appalachian mountains some of my poorer relatives still used horses instead of tractors. They used horse manure for their gardens. The gardens that used horse manure was much better than cow manure. At least is what my granny said. I noticed you have two horses. Might want to use their manure on special garden areas.

HI Mike, Greeting from the land down under. I have a huge family and most of them are cattle farmers or have something to do with it in Australia . More specifically the darling downs in Queensland. You do lots of thing differently for obvious reasons. Mainly the climate dictates what you can and can't do. What i really wanted to say was with all that manure why don't you set up a worm farm. To be more to the point composting worms make great compost and you have all the necessary ingredients water straw land and manure along with machinery . Cheers Julian

Hey mike, I have been reading some of the comments. And several have made pretty good points about spreading your manure out by a rotational grazing system. And a hay unroll pattern to spread out the manure more evenly. But this all sounds good and is good, when everything is textbook perfect. Too much rain, or not enough rain can drastically change all these theories. Unrolling hay when it’s muddy sucks. Ruts everywhere then it freezes up and it’s so rough that a cow can’t even walk. I hate mud. But drought is the worst. A rotational grazing system just don’t work good without some rainfall. Also you must have multiple drinking fountains . So maybe mike knows best. I hope the best for your 2019. Good luck to all your family. And remember, it always rains after a drought.

Manure management need only consist of proper rotational grazing. Your pasture would fair much better with the small amount of rain you get as well. Rotational graze and proper rest for the forage. You're making life harder on yourself free ranging your cattle like you are.

Believe I’d skip the slurry pond . Then you just get government involved and that ain’t good . Not sure how your feeding your hay during the winter , in a certain paddock or how , but I bale graze myself , about like you rolling yours out , and I do it in the pasture, never in the same spot . Spreads the manure out . Start in the farthest and get closer as calving gets closer . I really have had good results .
