It was Debbie's short lifespan that made her feel more like a "pet" to Nolan. He spent 20 years on Earth = feeling like 7.3 days to a Viltrumite. The boring math work explanation is shown at the end of the post. *Omni-Man was telling the truth when he said his life on Earth felt like a speck of time for him.* Viltrumites live for an EXTREMELY long time. I could be remembering this wrong, but I think a clue dropped at one point when Omni-Man said "he remembered something from yesterday" and Debbie corrected him saying "that happened years ago". I believe episode 1 Omni-Man was hoping that both Debbie and Mark would die of old age and never find out his true mission on Earth. Once Mark got his powers, Nolan knew it meant he couldn't wait for Mark to "age out". Therefore, Nolan had to stop his little "vacation" and get back to work conquering Earth. "Think, Mark! " - I think Omni-Man was trying to convince himself. He was never really trying to kill Mark. He was doing the Viltrumite version of "Daddy Spank!". *Viltrumite Age Math:* To give a perspective of time for Omni-Man: When Omni-Man crushed Red Rush's head, it lasted less than a second but felt like hours to Red Rush. Omni-Man has the opposite problem. According to Comic Vine, no Viltrumite is ever stated to pass the mark of 100,000 years old. To make calculations simple, let's equate 80,000 years Viltrumite life span and 80 years Human life span. Applying the ratio of a Vitrumite living to 80,000 years and a human living to 80 years. 80,000 yrs / 80 yrs = a factor of 1,000 Same factor ratio by human standards - 80 years / 1,000 = 0.08 year Since 1 year = 365 days 0.08 x 365 days = 29.2 days So 80 years to a Viltrumite feels approximately like 29.2 days to a human. Debbie was already an adult when Nolan met her. He spent 20 years on Earth = feeling like 7.3 days to a Viltrumite. The rest of Debbie's life would be approximately 40 years which feels like 14.6 more days for Nolan. It was Debbie's short lifespan that made her feel more like a "pet" to Nolan.

I don't think that viltrumites actually perceive time faster than normal despite their long age. I wouldn't assume that a cat or dog perceives it slower than humans either, so why would viltrumites see it faster? It's probably moreso that they learn to become more patient, and focused on the bigger picture. Afterall mark still experienced his life as normal

Not that it matters when it is said they can live 100's of thousands of years. We don't actually know their maximum life span because even the oldest Viltrumites (Mark) lived to be about 30,000 years old then died violently rather than to old age.

And in-show we see Debbie and Nolan are able to have a perfectly loving relationship despite similar circumstances. Mark and Amber could have that and revealing the secret identity is the first step to that, so until this point it has been on Mark. However Amber already knowing and lying about it instead of having an honest talk puts this on both of them. The fact that she then gets mad enough about it to let it ruin their relationship is really illogical and does make her come off as a really toxic person.

I’m always a little surprised by how people think Omni-Man as a psychopath or sociopath who cares about no one. Even before the baseball scene you saw he cared about Mark. He was worried about the implications of Mark getting his powers. He practiced telling Mark because he wanted it to go well. Obviously he handled it in a brutal and inhumane way but how do people expect an individual who comes from a civilization that agreed to kill half of their own to reason. Viltrumites reason through force. Not empathy. They seem to have no empathy for their own so it’s weird that people expect him to have empathy for humans. A race of people that look like Viltrumites but have nothing else in common with them. Nolan has been conditioned to believe Viltrum is superior and his sole purpose is to further the empire. Obviously I’m not saying that he was right or just. But his definition of right and just is completely different from ours. Which makes Debbie’s and Mark’s impact on him even more impressive. He betrayed everything he was taught and knew by leaving Earth. Great reaction, I’m not shitting on you. Just an observation I wanted to share. No Spoilers please i don’t read the comic.

Killing one is no more impactful than a human killing a bug. Now sure, some humans don’t like killing bugs, and frown on others that do. But a human that doesn’t feel anything killing a bug certainly isn’t a sociopath. It’d be one thing if Omniman enjoyed killing/torturing humans, then maybe the argument could be made. A few things to say: 1. Amber was actually pretty well received for how well written she was. It wasn’t until Episode 7 that people started to hate her. This was luckily not the case in Season 2. 2. cats are lactose intolerant. Giving a kitten milk is the equivalent of giving a dog chocolate. 3. Omni-man is one of the Nicest Viltrumites. Only a select few actually hold compassion.

The reason you like Omni-Man is due to some excellent writing strategies. Most comics/shows have villains with a fleshed out origin story and some redeemable qualities, but 99.9% of the villains in Invincible are just pure evil with no redeemable qualities. Omni-Man is the only villain with a heart, making him seem that much more relatable.

I like that during the entire series, every time Nolan tries to convince Mark of their "purpose", he's trying to convince himself as well.

The thing is that it wasn't just Amber that was annoying. The show's writers had everyone on the show simultaneously tell us that Mark was wrong. His friend tells him he was horrible. Atom Eve tells him he was horrible. Yet nothing I saw in the show shows him being horrible. He had to leave a lot in order to help people. But he never mistreated her or did anything bad to her. At best, you can say that he wasn't being a good boyfriend by never being there for Amber. That's true. And if she had no idea why he kept leaving, it would have actually been bad. But as soon as she says "Yeah, I knew the whole time" then it means he was no longer doing anything bad. She knew he was a super hero and that he'd keep leaving since it was kind of his responsibility. Which then immediately puts the onus on her to either deal with it or break up with him. He's no longer at fault.

I dunno. His constant lying for excuses was pretty crappy. Even though he had to do it, the lies he came up with were just insulting. They make it clear Amber's a fairly smart person, so things like being late because you got the cheesecake that made you late, or a sudden family emergency that lasts for two hours which he'll say nothing about, seems to be assuming she must be dead stupid to believe them. That she gave him as many chances as she did shows how hung up on him she was. When she figured it out ("a few weeks ago", not the whole relationship) she probably didn't say anything because *he* hadn't said anything. He obviously wanted to keep it private, so she'd try to respect that. But when she got a hint of the power-levels that go on around him with the Sinclair soldier, it suddenly became a lot more important for him to be able to own up--so she could feel somewhat protected, maybe not have to worry about him buggering off for a minute or two to put on a costume when he needed to show power. Remember that our whole little group went through some significant trauma. Amber was probably scared shipless, and her superhero boyfriend who could have protected her refused to even protect her emotions by letting her know he'd be able to keep her safe. If she starts thinking like that it's not a big jump until she starts wondering what she's really worth to him. Having had some extra time to process the trauma, plus realize that Mark was going through similar and worse crap every day turned her around, when she came back after the final fight.

@@sproo6412 Mark being a bad liar is a weird thing to be upset about. If he was better at lying then it'd be more okay with you? That just seems messed up. Mark's lies were bad because he wasn't really trying to trick her, he just couldn't tell her the truth. Also I cannot ever see Amber being upset at Mark for the college situation being justifiable if she knew he was Invincible. He left for just a moment to return in costume so he could protect everyone. There's nothing better he should have done at that point, unless you think he should've just let his public identity be revealed to save a couple seconds, putting everyone he knows and loves in danger and ruining his life forever.

The point was not that he delayed to go get a costume on, the point was that he couldn't be bothered, even then, to tell her what happened, to provide ANY sort of reassurance that he'd be able to protect her in situations like that. About Nolan's wife being like a pet to him, it kinda makes sense, he shouldn't have said it, but it does, considering that the average lifespan of Humans is 60-90+ years, meanwhile the animals that we call pets, like dogs, cats, parrots etc, only live for less than 1/4 of our lifespan, 5-24 years, some of them would be lucky if they reach 17+. Now in the Universe of Invincible, compare the lifespan of Humans to Viltrumites who live for thousands of years, with that in consideration, we are indeed like pets to them. Also, despite all this happening, I still like Nolan, he did go overboard, but considering where he came from, he is probably the most calm and polite Viltrumite out there.

31:58 For those who missed it, the most important part of this episode is right at the end where Mark is beaten to a pulp and Nolan is about to kill him. Nolan asks him, rhetorically, what the point of saving all these people would be, he asks (and I paraphrase a bit here.) essentially "when these people are all dead and gone, everything is dead, what will you have, Mark?" And Mark answers with one sentence which breaks Nolan. "I'll have you, Dad. I'll have you." It breaks me everytime I watch or read the line. Its just so powerful. That at the end of everything, it would be them. Father and Son. Unfortunately, your boy Alex either completely misedited the clip or completely missed that. 😂😂😂 Alex!!! Dude!! That was literally the most important part of the episode and even the season!!

I think the thing about Amber a lot of people forget is that she has stated on literally their first study date that she and I quote “Likes an honest man” She liked when Mark explained himself and was vulnerable with her during that date. However Mark keeps lying to her and making up crappy excuse to make up for it. While Mark is entitled to have his privacy, when you are in a relationship at somewhat there is an understanding you will get to learn your partner in a more personal way. Hiding something as important and big as a BEING A SUPERHERO is a big deal. Let’s also not forget back in episode 5 (I think???) Amber literally gives Mark the option to leave the relationship when he disappears again. Telling him if he has more important responsibilities then they should break up so he can focus on those. Amber literally gives Mark an out but **Mark** chose to stay with Amber. So when Amber finds out Mark is a superhero (Which she said she figured out a few weeks let’s just say a month to keep it simple) She was giving that time to Mark to be honest and he still choose to lie to her. I think Amber just had a very emotional response for being you know, **17 years old** this probably being a very serious relationship for her. Now me personally I think the writers did a poor job not showing the consequences that Amber had to deal with for Mark constantly leaving her behind. I think they could’ve done more to at least show Amber trying to make up for Mark’s absent and that would’ve at the bare minimum made us, the audience, a lot more sympathetic to Amber.
