The Muhle R41 razor is renowned for being somewhat aggressive and is advertised as being a razor for experienced shavers. In this three pass shave I'll put it to the test. I'll be using a Muhle razor blade in the R41.
The Wanderer shaving soap, from Zingari Man is a beautifully scented soap but it is, unfortunately, a soap that I have a slight reaction to. Such a shame!

Your gone all streets on us with the cap Mark. I thought you was going to do a rap😆 R41 rose gold is a favourite head shaver of mine. Shame the soap doesn't like you but with all the good stuff you had recently l can't be to sorry for you!😆👍👍😉

I think to be a proper rapper, the cap has to be on back to front. Oh wow, there we go. It is strange how we all have these different preferences for a razor - it's good to know you find it works well as a head shaver. Perhaps others will read this and be tempted. Forty degrees next week but, get your cap on! 😊

No matter what we photograph or video we are always fighting with light. You made it work. You like living on the edge. One time I had a reaction and my skin felt like it was on fire for 30 minutes and itched the rest of the day. Great post!

I was lucky, that I was able to make it work. Wearing a cap, whilst shaving was certainly a first, and rather unusual. It all worked out in the end.

That's some bright sun light, I don't recall you shaving with a cap before ... The R41 is not something I would use, I favor razors on the milder side like the R89 and quite understand you were more careful with the R41 razor. The R41 safety bar reminds of the Fatip Gentile razor I have, which is a milder razor. Pity you got some reaction to two nice scented soaps, I sometimes get some tingles from some soap scents but so far none bad enough to stop me shaving with them. 👍😊🤟

No, I have never had to don a cap before. The sun was bright and low. We are expecting forty degrees, next week, for the first time ever! OMG. I've been a bit unlucky with the soap, with two that I really enjoyed the scent. Still, I have lots to try and it is all very interesting. You have to go a long way to beat that R89. That's for sure. Take care, mate.

My R41 is not an everyday shaver for me. I use it when i have three days or more growth,it can bite. Proper 30 degree angle is key to a good shave w/ this tool and a light touch and do not go over areas more that twice per pass,once is good enough folks. For daily shaves i use my Merker 23c with two razor shims as its too mild without the shims for me. I always do three pass shaves with both razors but please treat the R41 with utmost Respect!! BBS everytime folks.
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 2 жыл бұрын
Good advice Sean. It's worth trying to make sure the 30 degree angle is just so. Perhaps with a different blade it might be a little more comfortable. For me, it was like a school report - tries hard but could do better 😁

@@FriendshipShaving Thanks for the advice about using a different blade i mostly use Nacet blades. I will try a different blade and see if i can chance an everyday shave with the R41 although i am quite ok doing three day shaves with it.

so R41 for me is not what i would call mega aggressive however i find a good keen blade is essential and the angle is very important either one of those wrong and you will get a shave rougher than a robbers dog but if right i get a great very close shave indeed but very easy to over shave and have a code red on one’s hands . hope you have a great weekend mate and happy birthday to mum 👍
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 2 жыл бұрын
No, it isn't mega aggressive at all, mate. When I first shaved with one, I was surprised I still had a face, after my shave: I was expecting much worse. It's a finicky razor. Too much so really. I hope your family are keeping well.👍

@@FriendshipShaving What currently intrigues me in shaving is alum. It seems that if after my usual shave I glide an alum few times (3-5) over one place then I get an irritation. However if I glide just one / max two time(s) over one place then everything is rather fine. I dont know why. Does it cumulate somehow and skin absorbs more of it or how does it work? Hm... Most probably, but why such a huge difference? I see guys on vids gliding 5 times over and no problem. Hm...
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 2 жыл бұрын
That's interesting. It helps the skin heal, and may burn a little, especially if you have had a shave that is a little too close. I'm sure you know this. Perhaps, when used more heavily, more alum dissolves into the water on your face and gets absorbed by the skin. That's the only explanation I can think of.

Hi Mark- Great shave and razor review; thank you! Sorry to hear about the soap irritation. I did purchase a R41 several years ago, but truthfully, it does not see much use. No matter how careful I am, nor which blade I am using, it leaves me with weepers and varying degrees of irritation and redness. There are other razors that I much prefer to use. Looking forward to more unboxing, as well. I hope you have a restful weekend ahead. Be safe and be well. Best regards, as always, my friend!

Hi Mark, Nice review of the R41. I think it feels a little rough just like the Yaqi Knights Helmet. The £5 Lord L6 (LP1822L) is also aggressive but comfortable while making the blade feel safe and rigid. Enjoy your weekend 😀👍👍

Hi mate. Yes, that describes the R41 very well. That's a heck of a comparison - a £5 razor that is aggressive and more comfortable. Sometimes you don't get what you pay for in a more expensive razor. Cheers Steve 👍

Hey Mark. Good careful shave today. I had and sold my R41. I felt like I needed to try it but it just wasn’t comfortable. The mild green Astra blade was prob the best. The head felt blocky and the shave was not too comfortable. Maybe the flatter blade angle. At any rate it is gone from my den and I don’t miss it. Classic YMMV. If I want a bit more efficiency I’ll take a higher plate on my Karve CB. I actually have some samples coming tomorrow and that Zingariman Wanderer is in there so I’m interested how it goes. Pity you had a reaction again. Hopefully things are better next time. I am hoping to do a comparison shave tomorrow with the NEW long and short comb. We’ll see how it goes. I love the look of the common bar handle on the SC but wish it was solid and not hollow for more weight. The ball end handle is a bit heavier which leads to better balance on the LC which I prefer. Take care.

Hey mate. I'm glad I was able to borrow the R41 to shave with it again, but it isn't for me. There is so much choice these days, and more comfortable razors available. Good luck with The Wanderer - it smells lovely. It was a very mild reaction, but not something I wish to repeat. I'm sure you'll be fine. I love the LG New and completely agree about the weight of the bar handle. It is a long time since I had one. Enjoy that comparison shave. It'll be interesting.

Hi Marc, i am 100% with you with that razor. it´s Ok, but not wow! I prefer more efficient razors but the R41 is one which i sold. For me, much better, is the Greencult from Austria. It is about 40-50 Euro. It is Stainless Steel! Well made. OK, the finish is not superb, but again 40-50 Euro range, so that is pretty ok. The shave is very efficient but very smooth feeling. one of my Top 5! And i have much more expensive ones (Blackbird, Ambassador, Vector..) I am really sure that you won´t regret it if you gibe the Greencult a chance! I am German, ot Austrian, but i did it too ;-) Have a nice weekend!! Jens

Great shave video as usual Mark, Very informative, relaxing and entertaining, May I make a suggestion Mark, I have used many many razor blades with the R41, And through a lot of extensive elimination I found the Wilkinson sword Blade was the out and out best, Very smooth, Effective to the point I have the best, Smoothest and longest lasting shave out of all my 20 razors. Of course we are all different my friend, But give the Wilkinson sword a try with the R41, You might be very surprised. Good luck Mark and all the best.

Hi Mark, another great and informative shaving video. I personally think the R41 is a razor that should always be handled with good care and which is also quite “blade dependent”. I hardly use the R41 anymore, because I have forgotten which blade worked best for me in it 🙄. I also tried a Mühle blade the last time, but that wasn’t it. Your “N / Y” baseball cap would fit well for shaving videos in which you try to figure out if a razor or soap gets a thumbs down = N-o or a thumbs up = Y-es 😄. (That way a Yankees cap can even make sense in The UK 😉).
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 2 жыл бұрын
Great idea for the cap and very imaginative. That has amused me. Very clever! I can imagine that the R41's performance is quite blade dependant and, personally, I can never remember which blades work better with certain razors - it is always slightly hit or miss for me, apart from those blades that tend to work well with most razors.
