What... was even the motive? That just seems so senseless and horrific. Just killing her for the thrill of killing a woman. The fact this psychopath goes on parole in just two decades while Uyinene's entire life was cut short just goes to show how terribly the system is failing us all over the world. I hope she is in a better place now, may she rest in peace. Thank for the coverage, Adrian.

😥..I was not going to read any more comments as my spirit is deeply pressed in many emotions alongside all my sisters , families , friends etc where you live & sadly as it happens across continents - I am truly saddened you are reminded of this as you pass by and then having your mind pushed into our & children's everyday reality of not being safe at any time or anywhere ..: ( I presumed from seeing the footage here that this bldng [ no matter if it's ' govt' ] would have been removed and was hoping a beautiful memorial would be placed there- I envsioned if I then were to pass ,. I would use this symbolic to give me a strength & steadfastness & purposely establish bonds amongst all sisters - that we be out in groups to deflect the 'animal predators' amongst us . Sadlyyyy lately I've seen the above eyes of those. I've never used those words to describe some as these , but in the last several months I have looked into these eyes & they look like an animal that is watching their prey : [ ... The several recent times this occurred it had been daylite as I watched their eyes tightly follow someone on street , exercising at parks ... I have def been in specific verbalized prayers as I've been amongst & along with woman doing regular everyday things and many are unsuspecting as Uyinene . - Since I have been affected from this video and posts - I will now keep you , your children in prayers of protection - & all in all countries 🕊🔥🙏🏾👑🙌🏾

It's worse than that. He probably held her package back , no doubt stalking her for a period of time. It's clear he planned to rape and kill her from the start. You don't plan to just assault someone who would easily be able to identify you and you don't plan to just assault someone at your place of employment where everyone knows you were the last employee on site. No, he committed premeditated, malice aforethought assault and murder. And to top it off he disposed of her like burning old rubbish. Despicable.

This is terrifying because there wasn’t a red flag. Usually, I comfort myself with these stories by telling myself “I wouldn’t get into a stranger’s car” or “I would never be in this situation because I don’t walk at night by myself.” It’s a coping mechanism that unfortunately didn’t work for this story. This is heartbreaking. I feel if I were on her shoes how would I have known his intent? She had no idea her package was there or that the post office would be closed. She had no idea what he was planning to do. It's so scary being a woman and trying to navigate life... you don't know who you can trust and you always have to be on guard. She went to do such a mundane normal thing as go to the post office and pick a package up. Something I've done many times without fail. Any of us could easily be victims of something like this; just coming across a violent individual at the wrong time. My heart hurts for her and her family. 💔 I can't imagine how she felt being trapped and no one to help her or knew what he was up to.

Thank you for sharing Uyinene’s story with such care, Adrian. Even though it still makes me go to a very dark and sad place every time I hear it. I never knew her, yet the world feels darker without her in it. She was the essence of zest, youth and potential, and a monster snuffed that out to satisfy his depravity. She had yet to live her best days. What also haunts me is a flippant comment the killer made during his confession to the police. He said (translated from his local language): “That child gave me a hard time, she took a long time to die.” I think of what those final moments must have been like for her and I’m in that dark place again…I usually never wish ill or harm on anyone, but I hope that in prison that monster is subjected to treatment that makes him long for death daily.

(What if I got offended an African couldn't pronounce an American name? Then it'd be different right? Because that's how "cultural respect" works? It's one-sided?)

I had to collect a parcel at the Claremont post office (an affluent area), some 4 years after Nene's tragic murder. I entered with great trepidation, only to find a post office enveloped in darkness. The entrance had a foul smell and the staff all wore a look of utter devastation on their faces. The evil that this man holds still resides in this post office. Terrifying. Nene, we as a nation, will never forget you!

i started studying the year after this case happened at uct, and one of my friends that i made there was her friend. i think what hurts the most is realising how human she was. it’s easy to “forget” that these victims are real people. she was a living breathing person who had friends, people who loved her, people like her and some incredibly selfish, evil man took that away from her loved ones. she deserved better, so so much better.

Let me clarify this for you all. When someone is beautiful and or rich, it grabs people's attention. Regardless of the country you are from. Human beings everywhere in the world shows this same attribute. If your ugly and or poor, then no one will care. There are too many people already in this world. An ugly person dying or going missing is only a loss for their family. But I'd it's a beautiful face, then wider society will take notice. Sorry guys if your app born ugly. I was visiting Cape Town at the time. Roscommon House is very near the gym I attended and the apartment I was renting. This was in the Claremont area. I walked past that Post Office on a daily basis until one day it was cordoned off and had a heavy police presence. It was truly a dark period. I remember the streets being at a standstill, the students at the University of Cape Town were extremely outraged and the general vibe in the city (and country) was terribly despondent. The tension in the air was honestly palpable. I also recall the massive protest that took place outside the Parliament buildings in the city center. There’s some stunning footage of it online taken from an aerial view. Unfortunately, 3 years since visiting it doesn’t appear like the gender based violence over there has lessened at all, but actually gotten worse from what I’m told. This is despite the government pledging to do something about it. Hopefully that changes one day. Beautiful city, I should add. Highly recommend anyone visit if they can.

Because it's so mundane. A lot of these cases are weird and unique; you'd have to be very unlucky to die in a mass shooting, for example. But rape & murder happens every day. In places like Africa or the middle east, it's often not a question of "if" but " when" and "will I survive". And all because someone was mad at the world and needed a victim. Or, in the case of a lot of GBV, angry that a woman was doing better than them.

There are youths standing on the railway bridges waiting for victims to come off the trains, sometimes they are there for hours and the police are so over run with cases that they cannot keep up. Unfortunately others in the force are part of those that rob and steal it is a beautiful country wrapped in the grip of corruption and fear. Thanks for covering our beautiful, yet crime ridden country. Been a subscriber for a while now and watched nearly all your videos, making for great podcasts while I work. Your content is always well researched and unquestionably professional. I feel you and That Chapter are even better at crime documentaries than the more large scale production television documentaries.

It pisses me off that you have a wonderful family that loves you and brings you up with so much love and care, you study and work hard, you try to be the best person you can possibly be, you do everything 'right'.....and then some worthless POS just feels entitled to take your life. ..In the middle of the day. Inside the post office. It just makes my brain explode. What the hell is wrong with this world?!?!

What a sweet girl she was, with a beautiful smile 💔 this disgusting man most likely planned to assault her for over a week....why else would he have lied about the package being delayed? Ending a life as if it means nothing - certain individuals like Botha don't have the capacity for feelings such as remorse, responsibility or shame, except maybe for themselves in case they get caught.

As a South African, it’s so heartwarming to see you cover South African cases on gender based violence. Thank you for telling her story, she will always be remembered. Ya, and how far have you come with this fight since that time? Nowhere. Every day, women in SA are still being raped, murdered, beaten up, etc. No protection laws up anywhere as far as I can see, and if there are, they are not implemented and are ZERO deterrent to these types of animals! As long as you guys keep voting this useless & corrupt ANC back into power year after year after year, you will have all this violence against women, children and everyone else really. Wake up and smell the sh.... poop already!!!

People who are compassionate, kind, curious and equally as shocked as each other at the vile acts human beings carry out on each other. Adrian, you are a fantastic storyteller. I am as hooked to this channel as I am coffee! Thank you 💙

Are you out of your mind? This happens all the time in the US as well. And also get away With assault and rape in the US every day as well. Don’t know if you meant to do it but the way you wrote your comment made it seem like this was an issue that people in the US don’t face or have to deal with Which could not be further from the truth
@Rae0811
@Rae0811 2 жыл бұрын
@@valenciasaintilus9573FIRST OF ALL you don’t need to be insulting, so you need to check yourself at the door with that. Second, I never implied at all that this issue does not occur in the United States. There’s a typo in my comment and it is supposed to say “I see and hear about issues like this occurring in ALL countries ..”. It’d be foolish to think that horrific incidents like this don’t occur in the United States because unless you live under a rock, then it’s obvious that they do. Obviously, I also watch true crime sooo. 🙄 The difference in the United States and the United Kingdom (based on my own observation) is that instead of fighting for things like this to stop occurring and to protect our citizens, most of the fighting here is over trivial BS. At least that’s what most of the focus is on. Why not instead of trying to be combative, just ask someone to elaborate instead of jumping on their ass because you’re assuming. You may want to work on that.
