True. I have never seen this set up in the relationship to be a problem. We feed our men so they can do the work that we cannot do. I can prepare and cook a good meal. However I cannot pick up hundreds of bales of hay out of the field and throw them on the trailer, then haul them to the barn and toss them into the loft. (Though I can climb up on top of the very tall stacks of hay on the trailer, and roll them off for my husband to pick up and stack again.) I also cannot take a chainsaw and cut up the great big tree that fell across out driveway and then move it out of the way. Same for splitting firewood. And I can go on and on of the many things my husband and can do that needs to be done, that I cannot. So the least I can do is feed him and clean up the mess from preparing the food and make sure he has clean clothes to wear to work.

I can sense the sincerity of your comment, and it is important to find what works for each relationship. However - what would happen if your husband was a chef and loved to make a sandwich for you? Would his "role" then be mis-guided? What if "shoveling the driveway" was something he might rather hire out - and then low and behold the paid personal that showed up was a woman? I think worldly culture vs Bible culture both can have their problems...remember the sin that brought humanity crashing down was a simple bite into a piece of fruit.
@ashleychilders96392 жыл бұрын
I understand what you are saying. My point is just that it’s not demeaning to serve each other. It’s not wrong that I make the food and my husband does the heavy lifting. It doesn’t mean that we are stuck in gender roles. It’s how God made us to work together. I am sure for other families it may certainly look different. I think the point is that the women should desire to be the homemaker and helpmeet and the husband should desire to be the head, protector, and provider. So it very well may play out differently for different families and that’s fine. It’s about the biblical principle and us all being okay with the world not liking us for it. So for each couple I think it takes being intentional and talking about how to walk obediently in the God given roles. What will that look like? How will we show the world the importance of our God given roles in the day to day? So for the couple you mentioned: It may be that the husband does all the cooking. The wife never makes sandwiches lol That’s cool. But she is so obviously such a loving and serving homemaker in other areas that it’s not missed. She submits to her husband, nurtures the children, and manages the home in a beautiful way. And she loves to do it. That’s what the world needs to see. The joy of obeying Christ! Wives having home being their priority. The husband in that situation hires someone to shovel the driveway and that is totally 👍 He is able to do that because he works, provides, and protects his family. He is loving his family by making sure the things that need to be done are taken care of. He loves taking care and leading his family! That’s what the world need to see! Men joyfully serving Christ! Being responsible! I do the budgeting in our house because my husband has asked me to do it and I enjoy doing it. I put it all together and he looks it over and usually if not always says “Looks good👍 “ That might not work for another Christian couple at all. Another man might feel in order to lead his family it would be better if he handled the budget and then shared it with his wife. Again I think the point is that there are specific roles God has given in marriage and we shouldn’t be ashamed of that fact. It should be apparent to the world that we do things differently than what is mainstream. This should all be done out of faith not legalism of course. BUT people should see that there is an obvious distinction between my role and my husbands. If that all makes sense :) I’m not morally opposed to my husband making sandwiches. Lol And I have shoveled the driveway in a pinch before when he wasn’t home. It’s just we actually are happy when we get to serve eachother in these particular ways. We like to see the differences in how God made us. It’s not a bad thing.
@ashleychilders96392 жыл бұрын
Also- I don’t think all manual labor is alike. I love pulling weeds and other yard work but to be honest I’ve never mowed our yard and probably never will. I’m a small person so shoveling snow or mowing is something my husband does because he is just in fact 10x stronger than me. That might be considered a “gender stereotype” but whatever. I’m thankful for it! I am sure weaker in that area and I’m not ashamed of it. I think my husband would not be pleased if he hired a company to mow the lawn and a woman showed up. Just because he is chivalrous. Not because he has an ego. I’m not sure whether he would have a moral obligation to do something about it. He is my head not hers. Also there isn’t anything in scripture that forbids it from my understanding. I think that it’s good that it would bug him a bit though. I think men caring for women’s safety and well being is a good thing. She may be a super strong capable women but my husband still seeing her as a women (created that way by God) and having a displeasure at knowing he is causing her to work a strenuous job won’t be wrong I don’t think. I am sure the world would call that bigotry but I don’t think it is. I think it’s what God desires men to feel towards women. A desire to protect and work hard in place of. Just throwing all my thoughts out into the web 🌎 probably will regret it
@ashleychilders96392 жыл бұрын
ALSO- I can’t stop apparently. The first sin began by Adam and Eve not obeying in their roles and then eating the fruit. “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. “ Adam didn’t lead and his wife was deceived. That was the first sin. His lack of leadership and her stepping in to make a decision based on lies. Okay I’m done

Yeah, sometimes Doug gets a bit too lost in his metaphors for me. Perhaps I'm dumb and like being talked to straight, but I always feel like his examples are 'clearly this is a picture of something a bit deeper, and I'm getting part of that, but please be a bit clearer as well as your example is actually making it harder to understand exactly where you stand on this'. Perhaps part of this is also being outside the US and missing some cultural cues that mean nothing to me even though he's speaking my first language. Considering Jesus cooked fish for his disciples, and fed the crowds twice, I am quite certain making yourself a sandwich is not a sin (although I don't think you believe that either, but just in case that was genuine and not sarcasm 😄). In my personal experience, I've met a few good Christian husbands who will regularly (and at least in one case exclusively) cook for their families. And they're usually rather good cooks as well when I've been invited to their homes. Not sure cooking is such a good example to be honest as there's no express command that 'a man shall not cook for his family'. It might be necessary if the guy is working long hours and the woman is at home, but I actually think it's a task that can appeal to both men and women. It's never struck me as being a strongly female oriented task if I'm honest.

There's nothing wrong with saying men and women are equal. The problem that arises is the vagueness of the term. We are all equal in the sense that we all have an equal value before God; there are no second-class Christians. We are not equal in the sense of what our God-given role to perform in this life is. I’ve never heard so much conflating in 10 minutes before. This ignores nuance of any sort. Using people is intrinsically implied to be a selfish act. Working with someone for mutual benefit is not the same as using them. In his example, using someone to physically block the sun from your eyes is not the same as using them morally. In that situation, it doesn’t harm nor benefit the sun blocker in anyway. If you use a woman to give you kids without her consent, that can cause physical, emotional, and mental harm. Further, wanting to provide for your family and being forced to do things against your will are two different things. You can love your spouse and want to make them food, and it doesn’t mean you have to do that. What if you’re an awful cook? What if you can show your love in a better way for both of you? What if you don’t see well and burn yourself when you use the oven because you can’t see clearly where to put your hand? How is that benefiting anyone. You can still be a man or a woman and use your skills in a smart way. It’s quite a waste of potential to reduce people so much. Also, if husbands lead the family, they are literally the ones making the choices so you can’t say that no one gets a choice and that it’s “God’s choice.” Men are also swayed by the whims of the world.

The women out there who complain that "He just wants my body" typically don't think it is too much to ask that the man lift the heavy things or go check out the crashing noise in the middle of the night or go fix something after a long day at work. We use each other's bodies in different ways, but that doesn't make it fine to ask him to submit himself to her every whim while depriving him.

Ummmm, well you would be using your wife's body to cook you dinner, nurse your children, scrub your toilet. I don't think it's right for a woman to deny her husband continually but to act like men do all of this stuff with their body for women and therefore women owe them sex is not biblical and honestly, satanic.
@YSLRD2 жыл бұрын
@@rebekahguilder602 Probably not satanic. A woman is no more obligated to provide sex than her husband is to provide it for her. And no less. Humans being what we are, we tend to put ourselves first and men can easily forget that women need more than caresses to " prime the pump". So it's more thoughtless than satanic.
@rebekahguilder6022 жыл бұрын
@@YSLRD I'm saying that just because you do things around the house does not mean your wife owes you sex. That devalues sex to something that can be bartered for. That is satanic. I'm not saying a man's obliviousness is satanic. That's just differences between men and women. But the original poster said women use men's bodies to do things around the house and then have no problem denying the men sex. If you listen to Doug Wilson's talk he makes the point that we use people all the time. So the man has already used his wife's body to cook him dinner, take care of his kids, clean his toilet, etc. So if we're reducing it to a tit for tat he's already been paid. The point is in a marriage or family you can't reduce it to a tit for tat arrangment.

Sandwiches are a creation of glory. Bread, is the seed of a well cultivated grass dried and ground fine them mixed with living yeast to rise beautifully. Mayonnaise is eggs and oil, one collected from the miniature raptors that we've domesticated for our yards and the other tightly pressed from seeds by thousands of pounds. Cheese from milk infused with more tiny living things to curdle it and make it taste delicious. Add beautiful tomato and lettuce and crown with cured meat, maybe from a chicken, turkey, pig, or even a massive beef steer. The sandwich game is no petty endeavor.

I hate reading long comments, but here we go.. I Couldn’t even watch the first 3 minutes. Stop using The Holy Bible as a way to put others down, whether it’s man or woman. The Bible teaches us to serve everyone..that goes for men too. As women, we’re raised being taught that we have to learn how to cook and clean because in the future, we need to take care of the house, kids, and our husband. This becomes a default thing we teach our daughters. As for the boys, they’re allowed to stay up late, play video games all day, not clean up after themselves, etc. because we know that when they get married, their wife will think it’s normal to clean up after him and take care of him like he’s a toddler. Men do the heavy lifting, they fix the cars and put bookshelves together… while women clean the dishes. Why? Women drive in 2022. We should be taught how to blow up our tires…we will eventually move out for college or work. Why aren’t we taught to put furniture together, or nail some shelves into the wall? Men whill have the same circumstances.. why aren’t they taught to take care of themselves? It becomes natural for a man to sit around and let a woman do all the work. But God forbid she lifts something heavy,, thats not her job. It’s the mans job to lift it then complain for the rest of the day. The “fog we live in today” that he mentions is not fog at all, it’s women standing up for themselves when people come up with BS videos titled “the use of women”. We need to learn to serve and sacrifice for people just as Jesus did for us and for the people who hated him. It’s not all about gender roles. We need to raise our children correctly.
@JonathanGillies2 жыл бұрын
I definitely see your point, but wouldn't it work if men and women were taught to play different, but complimentary roles? Surely it makes sense that men, who are stronger, should have the role of bread-winner and heavy-lifter, while women, who are more caring, should have the role of house-keeper and child-carer?
@narideenw81872 жыл бұрын
@@JonathanGillies I don’t have a problem with roles like that at all. So yea, but since men do the heavy lifting, they act like they cant do anything else. And then why aren’t women taught any of the other things that men are taught? Things that we are fully capable of doing.

This requires submission on the part of men, in a sense, also. This would really solve almost every problem in the world, I believe. :/ Like another commenter said very well: "I'm the cook in my house. That's the way it has always been through almost 25 years of marriage and many children. My hobby happens to be cooking. Some people like to paint or engage in other creative outlets. I like to cook. I now have the pleasure of teaching my young daughters to cook. Does that make me a "beta" male? Nah. Equating Biblical submission with making dinner is silly. The truth is that when you have a large household where all the children are homeschooled by the mother, it helps to practice love and patience in every situation and to place others above yourself. If that means doing the dishes because she is worn out, that's fine. I don't need to be waited on as if I'm helpless with my slippers and smoking jacket ready when I finish work while my wife makes a sammich and gets me a beer to fulfill my role as husband and father."

You tell her what she needs to do. You explain why, both from Scripture and reason. Marriage is ordered in such a way that she needs to respect your authority, but if she has the attitude you describe, it may take some time. Also women’s emphasis on relationship is born of a vacuum created by societies’s ungodly view of women. We crave relationship because yes, we were designed to crave it. However, everything has been so messed up, that men feeling the pressures around them and a life time of mental conditioning, have ceased to view their relationships as their main focus. What drove Jesus, the only perfect male? What was HIS focus? Relationship!!! Relationship should be EVERY Christian’s main focus. Their relationship with God, and also their relationship with each other. I know countless women who live lives of isolation and loneliness because they carve themselves into the roles that they have been taught are for women. They find solace in their relationship with God, but Their hearts continually ache after their husbands who do not seem to want a deeper relationship as long and the sex and sandwiches keep coming. Thankfully not all men think the same way that you do, but they are rare enough. 😢

Hello Cindy! I can tell that you're hurting deeply, and I'm so sorry about that! 😢 It's true that women generally have more of a need for affection in a relationship than men, but men should recognize this and provide this for the woman. In this sad and imperfect world, relationships are not what they should be, and men often fail to show enough affection to their wives. 😢 The Bible recognizes this, and warns men against it in Ephesians 5:25-33 and Colossians 3:19. In a godly marriage, the man and woman should always focus more on pleasing each other, rather than themselves, like 1 Corinthians 7:33-34, Galatians 5:13-14, Ephesians 5:20-33, and 1 Peter 5:5 command us. This requires submission on the part of men, in a sense, also. This would really solve almost every problem in the world, I believe. @@JonathanGillies , thank you for your feedback. I appreciate your spirit of compassion. Although I’m not hurting like you may think, I still would deeply appreciate your prayers! I have a good attentive husband and a happy marriage. I still have issues with much of what this man said. Intentional on his part or not, it will be used to push women down especially in abusive relationships. I honestly don’t understand why Christian men of power harp on women’s rolls so often. Why? Deep insecurity issues? My sorrow comes from what I see around me especially in the church; so much neglect of women and favoritism of men. And teaching women that much is normal and ok when Jesus clearly said otherwise. Do you have a daughter? How do you want others to see her? How do you want her to see herself? Do you really want her to live a cookie cutter lifestyle that leaves little room for her uniquely designed (by God) personality and talents? Because believe me if she’s expected to feed people three meals a day, and do all the other women’s roll things, then drag her exhausted body to bed to preform sex for her husband, she isn’t going to have any time for things she loves to do or the talents God gave her. Also according to this video, she will have to accept without any hurt on her part that it’s completely normal and ok for her husband to look at other women and think about sex. And if she can’t possibly preform for her husband because of illness or a new baby? Then she shouldn’t be surprised if he is tempted to cheat or watch porn. Do you want this for your daughters or granddaughters? I guaranty even if you teach her this with her best interest at heart, and she complies, marries a man (good man) with this same mentality, she is going to hurt a lot, no matter how many sandwiches she makes with a good attitude, or good sex she gives him. Even if he is a man with a completely different mentality, she will have been mentally conditioned to believe that he may cheat on her if she gets too fat or doesn’t give him enough sex. Because all men are just wired like that, right? And their main focus can never be the relationship they have with their wife because they just don’t feel the same way she does about relationships. In reality, not all men will “get to the point where the girls at work look a little too pretty.” (My husband is one, thankfully. We’ve talked about this very thing). Also ALL men, every single one of them, need and crave relationship and intimacy. They were ALSO designed for relationships and affection. It’s just many men have been mentally and emotionally trained to redefine their longings and fill them with other things that don’t satisfy. Jesus’s main focus while here on earth was relationships. He died a horrible death for the sake of intimacy. His main focus NOW is relationship. This world is constantly trying to distract us from that.

Often when someone uses someone else it often turns into abuse. The woman is to be a helper to the man and that help can come in different shapes and sizes just the same a man is to love his wife as Christ loves the church and this love likewise comes in many different shapes and sizes. I love my wife dearly especially when she helps me shovel the driveway but that is not the only time I love my wife. I would never "use" my wife but there have been many times I've capitalized on her many skills and talents to help me out and I believe she feels the same about me.

To the nephew, early in this video, Doug eludes to the idea that it may be more difficult to find that woman (I may be wrong). I might suggest that it actually might be easier, that is, of course, assuming you have been given a sound mind by the Holy Spirit. If this is the case, for me, at least, we now live in a black and white world where it is obvious for those with a sound mind to recognize those women who bear the mark of a Godly woman. She would absolutely stand out for she is someone who hasn't adopted the foolishness of this age like most evanjellyfish churchy women have. When you see that woman standing out, run to her. Court her and marry her quickly. But of course, ask her parents first.
