It's true: The NBA is RUINED.
Fans are absolutely pissed. But they aren't to blame for it...at all.

I don't understand why every NBA players were competing in multiple sports during their youth prior to the early 2010s : Jordan, LeBron, Chamberlain, etc. Now, we're seeing kids playing basketball year round. Recent studies showed that multi-sport approach is the best way to develop elite athletes : injuries prevention, motor skills, sport IQ, etc. In Europe, the vast majority of elite athletes are playing two or three sports during their youth; basketball teams in European is usualy helding three practices per weak and one game! Maybe we should go back to what we were doing back then. Sorry about my English mistakes.

It's cool but no you play multiple sports to help develop different part of your muscles and other body part when you play the same sports year round you are only limited your self. Also in Europe they have a better practice system then the USA from actually learning the fundamentals and using multiple body parts also the parents are less crazy.

The AAU system has also ruined the way that the incoming players play the sport as well. The video mentions the goal of exposure, and that goal has caused players to cater their games to creating highlights that will go viral on the internet and gain them more exposure. I call them "highlight hoopers," and although talented, come into the league or college unable to play a winning brand of basketball. Jalen Green is a prime example of this to me, he can score in bunches, but not efficiently and doesn't have the other skills necessary to winning. He can't play off the ball, doesn't play defense, and has shown that he doesn't respect his coaches. The iso-centric highlight culture of AAU basketball is causing the game to go downhill, and when paired with the increased stress on athletes bodies, the NBA is in for a rough future if it doesn't change.

💯 There's only so much a body can take, regardless of age.

IMO: AAU puts them additional miles on the body. 50-60 games in Spring and Summer and no time for development and no time to rest. AAU coaches expect players to go right from high school season into AAU season. No rest and no time to heal the body. Then you go back to high school and are the same player prone to injury. AAU is big business. Nike, Adidas, Under Armour and independent circuits are guilty of making money off of the kids blood sweat and tears.

I don’t know about the physical part but AAU does not teach the kids how to play the game properly

The AAU schedule is heavy... I don't think any teams I played on as a kid were technically 'AAU' but my dad had me playing YEAR ROUND... I remember being in 5th grade and being like 'I've played basketball 135 days straight' and being like proud of it... looking back it was too much, I played school and then like 2 to 3 other local league teams off season, plus every local week or weekend long basketball camp or clinic... plus personal training... It was my whole life at a point. I'm in my 30s now and deal with chronic pain

Europe has the basketball development system. No high school or AAU/travel teams. You play for a club year round and you only play games once a week. 6 days of practicing. You get summers off unless you are one of the few select players chosen for your country's National Team development program.

I've been saying this for years. LeBron is the spearhead for AAU in the NBA. His game is still immature, and he's the king of all this team switching and trade demands so it would have been more interesting to hear what his specific issues are beyond coaches not caring. The whole thing has dumbed down the league and quality of the game.

If the NBA expanded their league and then invested HEAVILY and expanded their minor league(s) they could remedy this. The overseas leagues are paying too much and diluting our scene. 34 teams means more guys making NBA money and staying here, MORE jobs for guys to compete with.. Turn the G league into a minor league system like baseball and let guys actually make good money there too and keep guys from going overseas

First aau needs to ban dunking. Second teams should keep competitions within their region.

Jalen Green joining the G league after he graduates is irrelevant. He was in AAU all before that. So much in this video is just wrong. AAU is an easy target because of all the grifters involved. The facts are this: players are playing longer, and more skilled than ever. Players miss games primarily because load management. It’s by design.
