Hey everyone Rho here! Today we're discussing the Chronomancer's of the Necrons. How these powerful Cryptek's can not only manipulate time, but that some may even be able to time-travel entirely...

Time travel is just so hard to have in a verse. Once you start down that path, almost anything can happen, which automatically erodes storylines and cheapens deaths or accomplishments. Hope they find a way to make it work.

I think time travel has its limit. The fact that you can change the past, can have profound effect on the present. Eliminating a particularly powerful foes in the past might lead to an even more powerful foes emerging, you will have to take into account the effect of the potential future it could lead to as well as the current faction you're facing. At one point it can also just becoming too much for you to be able to predict reliably even with the Necron massive technological edge.

I mean the female custodes thing is a joke, I'm more worried about the continuity of the verse as a whole. Pulling one thread in time always leads to others and then it all unravels

@@e21big The thing is: If you can travel back in time and change things, why not just go back again if something goes wrong? And then repeat ad infinitum until it eventually works out.

In the Shield of Baal series, the Necrons were trying to enter a dormant tomb. However, this slumbering tomb world was suffering the flayer virus! Hot on the Necron's heels, a Tyranid hive fleet! The Necron's did try to use the powers of time to halt the Tyranids, but there were too many Necrons! I beleve the chief Necron Lord used a Tachyon arrow to try to slow the Tyranids! (This device when used, places a terrible drain on the user!) So, despite the Necron's science, the Nid's could prove too much!

Great video wolf Lord, and if you want to learn more more ways necons can time travel, read the last 2 Ahriman books, there is a literal a necron time machine. Note, form this 2 book i think the necons are wike enough to not depend on time travel. On the series "forges of mars" we can see the damage of uncheck use of time travel. If the necrons star to use time travel with no restrictions, the whole galaxie would to be like the "Halo worlds" where the laws of reality are broken and its not the warp fault .

Well I would rather say that their advantage is reliability. Magic and technology in sci fi are quite the same. Turn the lesser people of your faction into souless models ? Bio transfer on the one hand, Ahriman's banishment on the other hand. Being able to revive after death ? Necron body on the one hand, becomming a daemon on the other hand. What technology can do warp ritual can do the same. Warp travel is already known to be backward in time sometime. So I would say that warp/magic offers wider possibilities but less reliable.

Time travel, unless well done, like Terminator 1, Doctor Who or Back to the Future, usually ruins any setting it gets used in.

It's a double edged sword. What if certain crypteks decide to time travel to attain a power grab? Or if Orikin decides he should lead the Necrons? For all of It's advantages, I think there is also the opening for rampant abuses. It could lead to a galaxy wide agreement on the banning of time travel because of the potential dangers if and when it is abused.

Sounds like a GW get out of jail free card to me. If they do something the fandom doesn’t like, they can just say a necron reversed it.

Time travel gives unlimited options but I dont think the writers will use any of it. The necrons have lots of crazy tech that is never really used in the lore. Take the celestial orrery, it's an unbelievable piece of tech that could be used to wipe out anyone at anytime but its never used, it's kinda just there in the lore to build the necron mystic and legend, to set the scene and depict tech superiority etc. I think Time travel is like that, it's just there as something cool but won't ever really be used in the ways you described.

Meh. I'm not a big fan of time travel. I know that it already exists in 40k but it happens very sparingly in the universe. And for a good reason. It cheapens the death of characters and the weight of events.
