I think the reason I love this show so much is it is actually informative unlike a lot of the other youtube shows. While there is humor it isn't the main attraction and you can tell both Joe and Dave have passion for the games they are talking about. Keep up the good work. Also BONUS!!

The lag isn't really an issue if you're using the handheld. It only shows up if you have the unit connected to a TV and worsens when the unit is in its dock and you attach the joystick. The screen tearing is present now matter how you play it.

I think this review really sums up the pro's and cons of the Neo Geo X and the firmware update. I still went ahead and bought this simply because I travel a lot and wanted something on the go and didn't care for the PSP. It's still fun to show friends since 99% of them never heard of the Neo Geo AES.

Great mini episode guys! Is the screen tearing and lag only a problem if you're using this on an HDTV, via HDMI? Or do this issues also show up on the handheld screen itself? That's my question.

Good update,if only a second update will fix all issues,thay will be great. It would be really nice to have a option to smoothly upscale the graphics to fullHD ,also if they fix those issues with composite video, it can look great(on a 37 inch crt tv).

I was in a meeting of a gaming website here in northen Europe and there was a Neo-Geo X and they had competions for Alpha Mission II, Last Resort & Metal Slug. I entered Metal Slug competion(most points with 1 continue) and for a long time I was the only one who made to stage 2. Then someone comes and makes his way to stage 4.

I'm fairly impressed with mine, and I'm more interested in what's going to be a good platform for my game than which platform's user-base is technically the largest. Developing for OUYA is the quickest and easiest path to launch a controller based small to medium sized game at the moment and doing it in Unity ensures that porting to other, more closed controller based systems can be done with relative ease after the game is complete.

very informative. I'll most likely wait and see on more updates before getting this one. There's something about emulation that makes games less fun. If they release an emulation product, especially on something so iconic, the least they can do is have no flaws.It feels more like a plug n play rather than a game console.

Like I said in the previous episode of the NeoGeo X, the best thing to do is get a gaming android phone and run games on an emulator. It's not piracy if you limit your game library to titles you already own.

The reason they can't change anything is it's been found that they literally just use the final burn emulator, and not a particularly modified one, all they can deal with is the settings

I remember getting an email about developing for the system and expressing interest but never hearing anything more about the console until it had already launched to terrible reviews. It's interesting to see that at the beginning they had the intention to make this a game platform of sorts with 3rd party new software, but it seems that they realised at some point that it was kinda crap. It's a shame because it looked like it'd be a fun platform to develop for. Oh well, there's always OUYA. :)

Well, the update didn't sound like much, but I think KOF'96 is better than '95, though not quite among my favorites in the series. Tried Kizuna Encounters a while back and I rather liked it, still not one of the best on the system or anything, but pretty enjoyable. Anyone know what games the bigger pack came with?

Still have absolutely no interest in this. So many things out there emulate Neo Geo and can do so better than this so there is little to no reason to bother. Would rather just go with a Neo Geo Pocket Color if I want some official SNK goodness on the go

If & when (via a patch) the emulation of the neo geo x console/handheld is stable as in true to the original neo geo hardware or close to it & a good sized game library of games are released for it, I will at that time consider getting the neo geo x for the games that I don't have. Otherwise I will just stick to my ps2, psp , & ps3 compilations & separately released neo geo & snk games. The neo geo x should be open source, at least then the problems probably would have been fixed for free.

Nice little episode, and I hate to say it, but emulators on my old Netbook do a better job then what I've seen from the Neo Geo X, and that makes me sad, I was really wanting to get this thing, but with all the issues, I'll stay far far away from it.

NGP and NGPC were handheld consoles. They used cartridges. The NGX is just an emulator with built-in games. Also, it's not even the same company anymore. SNK doesn't exist. Playmore bought the IPs and is now called SNK Playmore. Playmore was started by SNK people though so it's sort of like continuity. But it's just a completely different type of handheld.

your right on the Wii there is a slight bit of lag, but it's better then this thing, and i have the disc version for the Wii which ran me about $15-$20 each, and they where worth it, but they still don't have all the games.

That's because it's Metal Slug, not Contra. You can't shoot diagonally in any of the Metal Slugs. It's not a fault with the Neo-Geo X.

Yeah, but it is also legally considered pirating if you don't own an original copy of the game you are emulating and with some emulators the hardware being emulated (because of the bios)

I'm still on the fence on buying an X. Screen tearing is a pretty big issue. I have all the Metal Slug games on my playstation 2 anyways. Show me Windjammers and I might pony up.

Seriously though, for people that want to really enjoy Neo-Geo just stay away from the NGX. I bought mine knowing it would just be a decoration on my shelf so I wasn't really annoyed by how badly Tommo screwed it up. Put the $200 towards an AES or MVS setup or if you want to go the emulation route stick with quality emulation.. I.E. Neo-Geo Station (only 16 games though), MAME, Virtual Console, or SNK's compilations.
