I own the 50 1.2 , Love it! but it's soooo Heavy!! I wonder if it could be a good replacement , or just wait and hope 50 1.2 MK II would be smaller and lighter..

You won't get a replacement for the 50 1.2 for another 5 years, at least.

this looks like a banger -but its a real bummer u have to decide between 1.4 (background separation/low light) or the 1.8 S (clarity etc).... or spend $2700 doll hairs for 1.2 (everything) .... like can we get a proper 1.4 S for $1300 -is that unreasonable to ask for ??????? @nikonusa 🙏

i mean 4x50mm primes under f1.8 seems a little overkill... plus the 50 2.8...

Hmm will we see the 85mm get a 1.4 model to fill out the 35/50/85 lineup? If so I might can offload my sigma 85 1.4 emount lens and go native!

I am sure there will be one - it's the logical progression after the 35 mm and 50 mm.

All Nikon’s 50mms are interesting IMHO. All of them have been stellar in the middle apertures and poor from wide open until around F/4. Until the 50mm F/1.8 z, which has stunning sharpness and good color wide open and thereabouts. I still have the 50mm F/1.2, but rarely use it. For me, color issues and lack of snap under flat light, which is strange, as in contrasty light, this thing snaps. And at F/4 I find it being one of the sharpest lenses I have ever used, rivaling the old Nikkor 55mm F/2.8 AIS Micro and my German ( not Japanese ) made Zeiss and Leitz lenses. But it is way to heavy and beastly. I need to use a shutter speed of 1/1600, maybe 1/1250 if I really work at it to get maximum results. Maybe am to old or nervous or what have you. And to me, the 50mm F/1.8 z can have more of a luscious, luminous film like look so I have been ok. But this 50mm F/1.4 z at first glance seems to offer a balance of snap and depth. Can’t wait to see more from you.

Hello! I need some help please ! I want to take pictures for my newborn and I want a lens that focuses itself so you think is better option for me to buy the Z 1.8 S or the 1.4 ??

Would you get this over a voigtlander. Just wondering why the Nikkon lenses look so huge. Sometimes I would like more compact design. But it looks good.

The thing is why not making a perfect 50mm 1.4? I am not going to walk around with this behemoth 1.2 lenses. 1.8 and 1.4 are perfect walk around lenses. Why not make the best of the best, sure it wil cost more but give people a choice.

Hey Tayler -if u had to choose -which one -85 s 1.8 or this 50 1.4?
@neoshazam22 күн бұрын
Depends how & what you shoot and what other lenses you have. I just bought this 50 1.4 but I prefer 85mm over 50mm so this is the first 50mm prime I've had in over a decade.

Nikon (probably with Tamron) is fighting back against the South Korean and Chinese "value" players. I am very pleased with my nine Samyang lenses (and two Tamrons), but it's good to see the Japanese lens makers getting creative and competing better.

Does this lens have better quality than the Z 50mm f1.8 S?

if it's like the 35mm, the 1.8 S lens is optically superiors but most of us will not notice it without pixel peeping

@@matthewfandy If you want better sharpness, better corner sharpness, lower CA and better weather sealing go for the F1.8, if corner sharpness isn't as important ( after all for portrait for exemple corner will often be out of focus ), the little amount of CA isn't an issue for you and you want better low light and bokeh go for the 1.4, it's will probably be sharp enough anyway.

If I look at the picture at 1:37 the bokeh in the upper right corner doesn't look great to me (bokeh balls are not round and have a green edge). The in my opinion not too great bokeh can also be seen at 3:14. The more central part of the image looks better. Personally I don't care too much about sharpness, because it cannot be seen on KZbin, Instagram or Facebook. But the bokeh will always be visible. Even though I want a faster 50mm lens than f1.8 I'll probably keep my 50mm f1.8 S. The f1.2 is optically great, but unnecessarily huge and heavy and I don't really like the bokeh of this f1.4.

I've played with the Z 35 f/1.4 and it was a HUGE let-down. Even Tamron's SP 35mm f/1.4 DSLR lens was vastly superior, and I suspect this lens will perform about the same. In truth, I'm disappointed with Nikon's product options. I H A T E the rendering and hand-feel of the 35 f/1.8S and 85 f/1.8S lenses, so given that there wasn't a better option, I own the 85 f/1.2S and await the likely-to-never-release 35 f/1.2S. While the 85 f/1.2S performs really well, it barely fits in my lens bag, and given that Nikon doesn't have a solidly performing bright 35mm lens, well, I'm stuck with my 24-70 for now. Honestly, I wish they'd just get off their retarded high horse and allow third party full-frame primes. Sigma's ART series performs incredibly on Sony (I recently switched from Sony back to Nikon, so I speak with experience). I'd happily sell my 85 f/1.2S to buy literally almost three Sigma ART primes.
