Man, some people just don’t get it. A lot of “you could just” or “over priced”. These are the same people that buy cheap tires “well it’s just a tire” then complain they suck. If you want to wipe your car down with “quick detailer” every time you wash, then go ahead. That’s good enough for some. Other wants prolonged good looks with ease of use. I’ve used Kamikaze, Gyeon, 22PLE, Gtechniq, Cquartz, coatings and about every sealant out there. Each one weather cheaper or the most expensive has maintenance. Cquartz UK for the price and being used on a work truck outside 24/7 and lots of miles impressed me. Still didn’t last forever, make the truck scratch proof, needed maintained, and ultimately polished and a new coating applied like any coating would need. But Kamikaze time and again has proven why it’s worth the price. My ex, we would Lease her a new car, it would get Miyabi/ISM and maintained regularly and when it was ready to turn in after 2-3 years it still looked great after about 10-12k miles per year. Get a new car and repeat. Currently my fiancé, her car, same combo and she drives a lot, and after 28k miles in 15 months needs a little touch up but everyone still compliments how “shiny” her white car is. Kamikaze has never over-hyped like a few brands and their “10 layer lifetime coating” like Ceramic Pro (every year it gets a fresh layer BTW), I’ve followed Esoteric’s advice since coatings came to the US from paint correction to “how to” for an LSP etc, and you get what you pay for. Bunch of folks commenting should stick to Turtle wax Ice “ceramic” or some Nufinish and the all in one wheel cleaner and tire shine foam pep boys specials.

BTW Todd, suggestion for my new black Rubicon unlimited diesel. Debating Zipang 2.0 or ISM 3.0 with Miyabi base for the paint(it’ll get all Kamikaze or Gyeon for everything else inside and out). Non metallic black, non daily driver, primarily nice day driving but will probably see some NE Ohio snow and salt occasionally. Prior to coating, it will get full prep wash/decon and Perfect Finish with ultra fine pad, and PPF on high impact or likely to touch areas. Thoughts? Also for the hardtop, it isn’t painted to match, standard black top, textured low gloss fiberglass I believe. Suggestions? Thanks

Love your honesty and the products of KAMIKAZE from here in the Top End of Australia where the Environment is harsh and unforgiving day in day out. I have on my Toyota Landcruiser 79 Series KAMIKAZE MIYABI coating and its as good as the day it was applied 8 years on. But also I take care and look after the paintwork as it should be. So many people think , Oh I have a coating now, I don't have to worry ! That's simply not the case. Well done and follow your footage on all the KAMIKAZE range. I just applied this today. Hands down the easiest coating I have ever worked with. Applied one panel, then wiped the previous panel, rinse and repeated. Wipes clean very easy. I'd say this is way easier to install then other certified only coatings in the past. It's definitely a go-to even if it's the first time applying a coating. Did an eclipse cross, microfiber applicator, which uses a bit more than suedes. I was left with about 1/3 of the bottle, enough to easily do a car with.

Todd, I just took delivery of a new C8 Corvette Z06. After buying your Zipang 2.0 and Sonax Perfect Finish and yellow (fine) Rupes polishing pads, the paint on the car appears to be in exceptional condition. @Jon Well people said that main problem with coating is silica scale. But no, it also happen with waxes and sealants. In the past I do little experiment with polishing off the coating from 1 side of my car, and waxing it many waxes including Crystal Rock. And same thing is happened even on non coating LSP. So it's still the same recipe, properly filtered and deionized water, shampoo that didn't leave any residue, drying towel that can completely dry the surface. And final wipe with anything that (preferably) didn't leave anything on the surface. My preferred QD is Megs Final Inspection. Tried FK425 in the past and it kills the safe cleaning properties.

Hey Country Mouse...great to hear from you! Ease of use of ISM vs Zipang? I've experience with 1.0 and 2.0, not the new 3.0 ISM yet. I tend to think the ISM goes on "thick" and only likes straight lines, and its a bit of a pain in the ass to work with. Both coatings are one layer. If you wanted a little more durability, you can put down a layer of Miyabi first before either ISM or Zipang. You're getting pulled into the infamous "5+ year" marketing of lesser expensive coatings. The effective life of most coatings are only going to be a few years. At that time, they're no longer providing the great looks and self-cleaning properties that they are designed for. And to think that the car is still going to look great that far down the road without scuffs, scrapes, bumps, or bruises is wishful thinking. Most coated cars will need to be polished after a couple of years regardless of whether they are still effective. We chose to educate our customers on the realities of coatings that we have found with using them for over a decade; not based on a company's marketing pitch. Your customers should be coming to you as the experts in the field, and you educate them accordingly. If somebody comes in to say that "x" company provides a 10 year warranty for only $x dollars, then you should be able to educate them on why they are not comparing apples to apples.

@@just.a.simplejoe Educate themselves from what? Marketing information from the companies? From people on KZbin who have only been working on cars for a few years? You as the detailer need to be the expert, and if you are, then your customers will go with what you recommend.

Not everything is necessarily true. I have on my focus RS mk2, 2 layers of CQuartz lite, 1 layer of gliss v2. And 7 days later for fun I tested toppers on a certain panel to see. The products in question: meguiar's ultimate quik detailer (new formula), meguiar's hybrid ceramic detailer and meguiar's M799 pro hybrid ceramic sealant. I let it harden for 12 hours, and did a hydrophobic test. And this in no way affected the hydrophobic effect! Neither did the look, it even added a little pop to the shine. The one that impressed me the most and the M799 which even enhanced the hydrophobic effect! Even the simple ultimate quik detailer impressed me because the beading was still impressive. There are even some polymer products that excel as toppers. On another vehicle on which I had tested a cheap coating (fantastic xml ceramic & Graphene Coating) whose hydrophobic effect is not its strong point, it rather does an excellent 50% beading 50% sheeting , and always for me have fun on 2 panels I put meguiar's ultimate fast finish and the other meguiar's paint protect 365. To my surprise, the hydrophobic effect had changed to a superb water-repellent effect!. Yet alone, fast finish & paint protect are also products that are more sheeting than beading!. I found that interesting

If you're putting an inferior product on top of a coating, then you're reducing the effectiveness of the coating. Period. And if you're putting a cheap product on top of good coatings, and it increases the looks, then perhaps the coating(s) need to be upgraded. If you personally wish to put quick detailers on coatings, then that's fine. But it's not something that we would ever do for our customers, or recommend to others.

Ah, another $300+ product that needs maintenance every month or every other month. Might as well use turtle wax or some inexpensive product to spray it on every month or every wash;)

With that logic, why would anyone buy a $15K Rolex when a $50 Timex does just as good at telling time? There are products / options at every price point for every type of customer depending on their wants and needs. Once you wash a car coated in Zipang, you quickly realize why it's a premium product.

@gimaru1 Man, all you need is nothing more than "proper" water for washing, shampoo, washmitt & drying towel, final wipe product. It's the standard for almost 30 years since Megs invented the 5 cycles.

The whole new coating thing is getting really boring.

Not sure I follow? So you're not into products or companies moving their technologies forward? Perhaps Chevrolet should have stayed with the C4? Good product manufacturers continually evolve their products after years of in-field testing to make them better. Most of the time it's not because previous products were bad, but after having them used in real-world environments, they find ways to tweak formulas to provide benefits or improvements that the customers are asking for.
