"You do not need faith to believe in science" is my favorite quote. Well said!
@LittleRadicalThinker5 ай бұрын
You do, unfortunately, that’s why some fields of science are totally rotten to core. There are a lot of things you need to have faith in science just to do science. The fortunate part is we have peer reviews by scientists themselves to criticize every single thing in researches. However some fields are still totally messed up from the beginning.

Maybe faith is the wrong word for it, but I do think that an honest study of science requires us to know that there are things about the world which are beyond our comprehension and/or ability to comprehend. As a Jew I’d just like to point out a couple of things: the name of God (in this context) has existed for far longer than the 13th century. During the time of the 2nd Temple is when uttering God’s name became taboo (but NOT forbidden) as it was okay to say his name on Day of Atonement. Sometime around the destruction of Jerusalem, the true pronunciation of the name was lost. What was created in the 13th century was the Tetragrammaton; which is in many ways a placeholder theonym for the original pronunciation that has been lost. Far earlier Jews even had a Trigrammaton (YHW) which almost certainly was them developing a similar concept.

I don’t get why science and religion are treated like they can’t coexist. I’m atheist-ish, but like, even from my perspective, shouldn’t science make a religious person believe MORE in a creator? Science is incredible! Evolution is fascinating! Is it that much of a stretch for a religious person to believe that evolution was guided and shaped by the hand of a creator? I know there are plenty of people who have their religious faith *because* of science, not *despite* it. If something as simple as a scientific fact is enough to shatter the foundations of a person’s faith, if the only way to hold to their beliefs is by denying everything that makes them ask a question, that faith is weak. Because it’s not faith. It’s blindness.

2:51 "This means using our thinking ability to convince ourselves that jehova's advice is the best advice." If you have to actively work to convince yourself of something, you do not believe in it. You can fight against lies all you want, and they will not become the truth. And I say this in the name of truly religious people, too- not those who have been indoctrinated, but those who deeply believe. The things you truly believe aren't the things you need to convince yourself of. They are the essence of your being. They dictate the things you do and the person you are (along with your experiences and stuff.) But if you're ever trying too long to convince yourself something is something you believe, it's probably not. From, someone who spend YEARS of time and hundreds of dollars trying to convince themself that they were religious.

Funny story. I have been an absolute dinosaur geek from a very young age. One day, I found a children's Bible on our book shelf. At this point, I could neither read nor had formed an opinion on religion yet. I did know, however, that the Bible was supposed to tell us about how the world had been created. When I saw that the first chapter did not have any pictures of dinosaurs, but of humans instead, I immediately lost interest in Christianity and put that book right back on the shelf.

That girl that interviewed about the creation stuff was saying how she could look around and see all the beautiful things that God had made and that that made her believe in God. What about all the horrible things that exist on this life like cancer in children or or other diseases or anything that makes people suffer? If he's such a loving God then why did he create all that stuff too if he created everything he had to create the good and the bad what kind of a sick being would do that?
@morningglory92885 ай бұрын
That's easy. The true God of divine love created all life and everything that's beautiful. Jehovah/Yahweh/Satan created illnesses, cancer, poisonous snakes and everything evil as he was the one who rebelled in heaven, was cast out down to earth where he became the devil. He is the highest over the earth Psalms 83:18 and the ruler of the world 1 John 5:19

@morningglory92885 ай бұрын
@benfox1462 the true God of divine love is a feminine entity or spirit. She is powerless to control the devil as the prophesy in Genesis 3:15 has seen the devil Jehovah/Yahweh recover from the figurative blow to his heal after Jesus rebuked the Hebrews/Israelites for worshipping their father the devil. After Jesus' death, false religion, prophets and doctrines had made a full comeback where all glory, honor and worship has gone back to the devil mainly through false religious enterprises. The woman or true God of divine love was struck figuratively in her head, likened to a death blow, and is powerless at this stage to revert this world back to its original condition and creation. It was once filled with peace love and harmony among humans and animals that at a time once existed. Genesis 1:1-31

Catholic here! A lot of people in my faith don’t believe in evolution, but personally I do. For starters all of the fossil and DNA evidence is too much to not acknowledge. My science teacher (not religious so I don’t think she has biases religious/non religious people) she said something interesting, she said that all of our human DNA dates back thousands of years to one woman (who was ofc a monkey since we weren’t evolved yet) they do believe that there was other women but we all date back to one. I found that cool because in my head I was thinking “Eve” but again, I could be wrong too. If people could tell me there theories that would be great and it’s fine if you don’t agree. It’s just I find it funny that people think that religion and evolution can’t co-exist
@chromographia1065 ай бұрын
Your teacher would have been referring to 'Mitochondrial Eve'. All people inherit mitochondrial DNA from their mothers. So everyone has an unbroken matrilineal descent from her. She is estimated to have lived about 100-200kya, so she would have been a recognisable Homo Sapiens like us (at least anatomically). Other hominin species were alive at the time. There is a similar concept of 'Y-chromosome Adam', where Y-chromosome inheritance is inherited through an unbroken patrilineal line. He almost certainly did not live at the same time and/or place as Mitochondrial Eve. Wiki says 237-580kya. In both cases, there were other people alive at the time, but their Y-chromosome or Mitochondrial DNA hasn't survived. Y-chromosome and Mitochondrial DNA are very useful for geneticists because they change very little over many generations. The number of possible ancestors increases exponentially into the past, even though human population was far smaller. This is due to distant relatives having kids. Eventually we reach a point where one person appears in everyone's family tree. All ancestors before that are identical. And this happens just a couple thousand years ago, depending on how much mixing you assume. Any person who lived before about 10000 years ago is either an ancestor of everyone alive today or has no living descendants (even a tiny amount of mixing in this timeframe allows isolated communities to be included). Similarly as with the above concepts, the most recent common ancestor of all humans alive today wasn't alone, but the other humans of their time have no living descendants. There are other common ancestors, such as that of hominins (including modern humans and extinct species like Neanderthals) and Chimpanzees (and Bonobos). They would have lived between 8-10 million years ago.

A few things really irritate me about JWs... Number One... They overuse the Holy Name of God. It's a violation of the commandment "Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord Thy God in Vain". They use it so much that it's now like nails on chalkboard to hear it. Number Two... Every time they quote Holy Scripture, they subtly twist it to mean something that it doesn't really say. You can only pick the twist they've put on it if you've studied the Word of God for yourself, outside of their paradigm. Number Three... The Brainwashing. The Propaganda. AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!! I pity anyone caught up in this cult, trying to get out of it and find the true Path to God. It must be like finding yourself in that maze in the Labyrinth movie. Evolution is a load of crap as well, mind you. I am a degreed scientist, and the statistics are so stacked against us being a Cosmic Accident that it's mind boggling! There is evidence to suggest that Darwin and his cohorts were funded and promoted by the Fabian Society, whose logo is literally a wolf in sheep's clothing! It seems that the truth is found in Quantum Physics, that the Universe is primarily formed of Energy and that its structure is determined by Information... In other words, John 1:1 "In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God". I pray that God leads you all to a Knowledge of the Truth!

You’re ignorant about evolution so I don’t believe you. All evolution says is that all living and extinct organisms are relatives and that species change over time . Cosmic accident 🙄. Well I specifically have a biology degree . DNA and RNA just make sloppy copies that’s what enables evolution. In fact the main difference between chimps and humans is in how the same genes are regulated . And just FYI humans are great apes ( family Hominidae ) we didn’t evolve away from that lineage
@Thebiggerfish112 ай бұрын
we don't descend from apes, we ARE apes. Also Pope Pius XII announced that the theory of evolution is valid, and you can still believe in God and accept scientific understandings of the far past and present and future. I know JWs don't care about the pope but whatever.

3:39 that just sounds like a gateway into multiple personality disorder. I really don’t think it’s healthy to have a personality for when you’re around other people and a personality for when you’re alone. (please don’t come at me. I’m not sure if that can be developed or not.)
@Myeko21905 ай бұрын
This is not an attack, just to clear up a misconception: Multiple Personality Disorder, also known as Dissociative Identity Disorder or DID, is caused by terrible childhood trauma. And I'm talking trauma that could be considered psychological torture if you made someone watch it through. Your brain therefore makes multiple people inside of it and assigns memories to those different people in order to protect you, the core personality. However, I do agree that this is not healthy. It's not a disorder from what I can tell, just not good for you. Lots of people do normally live with a private personality, and a public personality, but of course, that doesn't mean it's not bad for you.
