Hi Ben, great video as always. Can I check, you mention optimising ads and ad sets in this video. In which order would you typically optimise? 1. Identify under performing ads, turning off those ads that are underperforming, leaving the ad set running with only those ads that are higher performers? Or 2. identify the under performing ad set, turning off the entire ad set without optimising underlying ads? 3. A combination of both At the moment I tend to check the ad set data for outliers first, then flick to the corresponding ads to see if any of the ads are clearly contributing to underperformance. If they are, i turn off the failing ads but leave the ad set running? If all ads are failing within ad set I’ll turn off the entire ad set. Would welcome your views if possible. Thanks in advance. Dean

Thanks Dean :) Most of the time we will go with option 2 - sometimes we'll optimise both at the same time if the differences are obvious.

Thank you for this helpful video. You are awesome as always! I have a question here. I wonder what is the best time period for the comparison such as "last 14 days" and "last 30 days". Say, A ad set performed better than B ad set in last 14 days but B ad set performed better in last 30 days. This kind of result confused me always. I've been wondering about the best time period for a long time but have yet to get the best answer. I wonder what time period you use for the comparison. Hopefully, I can get an answer from you soon. Thank you so much!

Great video. I have two questions. 1) What if the cost per result of an ad set or ad is very low, but the volume of results is very low or even at zero? Do I still pause the more expensive ad sets or ads even though they are bringing in a significantly higher quantity of results? 2) I have a campaign I have been running for two weeks. It has 4 cold audiences and one warm audience. The warm audience has brought in zero results even though its ad spend is more than double the amount of my most expensive cold audience cost per result. Should I still keep the warm audience ad set running?

I see you are running email lead campaigns, is it the answer in order to get much more conversions instead of conversion campaigns? I ask you this because what we are basically doing is: I spend x sum of money minus sales then you are able to see whether it is profitable or not. Personally I have never run email lead campaigns but I have seen a couple of more people jumping to this tool. Is it worth the jump? Thank you so much for your help.

Can you advise on the following: In the case where an interest group like Shopping and Fashion which includes a subinterest Fashion Accessories which has subinterests including Jewelry, Handbags, Sunglasses and Dresses -- which level of category would you recommend using? Testing historically seems to indicate Jewelry is best but wondering if staying at the higher level and letting Facebook work with the bigger audience is better based on what is going on with targeting now.

Thanks a lot for clear explanation of this strategy. One question. You said that cost per conversion - is the only metric that matters when we assess ad set efficiency. But if I have sale funnel with webinar at which product is sold - could it be that the lowest cost per conversion for webinar registration may not be necessarily the best performers who will buy product at webinar? What do you recommend for such more complex funnels?
@BenHeath

You are very welcome :) In that scenario I'd use the same decision making process but center it around cost per registration. It may not be perfect, but I think that's the best option :)

Hey Ben, correct me if im wrong, but i think that optimizing by CPR is find at the ad set level. However, at the ad level, i think we should optimize by CTR and CPC, because if our ads attract more people there are more chances of making the conversion. What makes the conversion is not the ad, is a good match between the audience (ad set) and the landing page, the ads just need to sell the click. Being said that, keep a low CTR ad and turn off another with good CTR just because the conversion didn’t come from that one doesn’t make sense to me. What do you think?
@BenHeath
@BenHeath 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Omar, I disagree - I think it's best to use CPR to optimise at the ad level as well. Clickbait style ads get a great CTR but often don't convert well. Conversions is what you want so why not go with the ads that get you the most conversions.

Hi Marius, it's a good question and one that I tried to address in this video - you use relative performance to optimize. Most likely all your ad sets or ads are underreporting by the same amount. That means you can still see which ads perform better than others. You can then pause the underperformers and repeat.

Ben (or any other expert here), one more question! Why are we advised to change the campaign objective to something lower funnel e.g. Leads, Likes etc. when our Conversion campaign is not getting enough results or is not finishing its Learning phase? If I create a new Brand Awareness or Website Visit campaign (or change the existing one), and even this new campaign finishes its learning, it will be optimized for Brand Awareness or Website Visits, and not Conversions e.g. Purchases. Then what is the benefit of stopping the earlier Conversion campaign and starting a new low-funnel campaign when the data will not be optimized for Purchases? I am missing the link here.
@BenHeath
@BenHeath 2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with your logic Nabeel - I don't get the point in that. Yes you end up with an optimised campaign but it's optimised for the wrong thing. You are much better off with a partially optimised campaign that is trying to get you what you want.

Spot on topic! My doubt is about optimising campaigns based on data that have potentially been "compromised" by the iOS update. I see decrease in conversions of up to 50% while i know from analytics that there was no real drop in sales... :(
@BenHeath
@BenHeath 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Davide, I think you have to accept that the data you receive is not perfect and you don't have any guarantees. That doesn't mean you can't move forward and make significant improvements to your campaigns. You can and have to use the data available to optimise. Potentially making a wrong decision here or there is not a big enough downside to not do so.

My question is, when analyzing metrics on your ad sets, you suggest to introduce some others with new targeting and turning the underperformers off - BUT, introducing new ad sets will restart the learning process of the ad set and campaign, potentially compromising your other winning ad sets - is this not true? I thought it was commonly agreed upon that touching basically anything in your campaigns, will result in the campaign reentering the learning phase. Also, when you do these videos, are you talking about CBO's or ABO's? Would you please clarify in the start of your videos in the future? I thought the Aggregated Event Measurement "work around" is supposed to allow you to still get data from iOS14+ users that opt-in. I understand we'll likely have no data from those that opt out, but aren't we n losing all data?
@BenHeath
@BenHeath 2 жыл бұрын
Yes there are a lot of people pushing that but it's not the case. AEM helps but doesn't give you all that data. It's also not true that we don't receive any data from opted out iOS users - we do if they convert - just not the full story.

You can see relative performance to identify weak performers, but you still need absolute performance to see how profitable you are. Maybe all of them aren't performing well enough, or maybe It appears that way, but one of them is actually doing quite well in absolute terms
@BenHeath
@BenHeath 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that's true - but you should be able to work that out (with a reasonable degree of accuracy) using other data sources.

@@BenHeath yeah, I suppose just going an extra layer deep (a little extra work) and you can work that out. Thanks for the videos and response, just stumbled on your channel. Right now my brand does 7 figures on Amazon and our website sales are much lower, but we haven't been doing any paid marketing at all. We'll still do about 20k a month on shopify just from social media following, but we're releasing a new product soon that I think will sell insanely well. I believe proper paid ads with our new product will take the shopify site into 7 figures basically overnight. Our KZbin and IG content is really top notch, so I'm looking to take that to paid video ads and start putting some money into marketing. Binge watching now

Have you found Christmas Sales have kicked in yet? I've started my Xmas ads 2 weeks earlier than last year, but they're performing really poorly, especially compared to last year. Is this me, my ads, the climate? Is there an easier answer haha?

I think it's probably a bit early. We haven't started many yet. Won't be long though.

Just wanna say thanks for your content. I run a lot of campaigns and looking to always improve, and your content is spot on. Most of the stuff found on youtube these days are "gurus" talking Shopify nonsense. You replying to all of the comments is amazing too. Keep up the good work!

Does anyone know how to re-run a facebook campaign, without them forcing you to double the budget each time you run it? I run $20 budget each week and each time i re-run the campaign they want to double the campaign budget amount!

Whenever you create a Facebook ad campaign, you have full control over the budget. Also, I'd recommend you use daily budgets.

@@BenHeath not really, if you create campaign and re-list it after it ends, it forces you to double your budget, you cant just add another $20 to it or any amount you feel like, but yes, i will only use daily budgets now on, and hope facebook doesnt force me to increase budget like they do for lifetime
