Quick little addendum. It was pointed out to me that I missed, I believe two additional April Fools event monsters. That being Kut Ku Rex, a Kut Ku that fights like Tigrex, and a Cingalala that fights like Rajang. These guys weren’t on the wiki and I never saw any mention of them or saw any gameplay online so that’s why there aren’t in here. But they did exist.

Don't know if this helps, would probably be more annoying these didn't pop up in your own search, but I'm pretty sure I found a video made by a Kogath titled Monster Hunter Online - Yian Kut-Rex?! (April Fools 2016). I think there might have been other April Fools variations or something, as I also found with them a two minute 2014 April Fools video that shows a Congalala with it's upper half stuck in the ground releasing what seems like a map-engulfing stink cloud, which after taking a brief beating releases an explosive roar and then Gen 3 Superman flies away. Also found a Cryston's [Monster Hunter Online]:[Dual Blades] - Congala-jang(?) (April Fools Event 2017).

The fact that someone in a design room somewhere suggested "What if Kirin were also a flying cricket?" and not only wasn't immediatly thrown out the nearest window, but also managed to realize that concept spawned directly from the depths of hades as an actually enjoyable thing to fight is nothing short of a miracle.

Especially the likes of Velocidrome (the crocodilian scales and scaly spine go _so hard)_ , who on top of that managed to get _his VERY OWN battle theme._ Online was really something else at the time but sadly couldn't last long, what a shame. I do really hope Capcom does care about Estrellian and Merphistophelin at least, and give them new life in the main series, maybe even giving us the former's final stage on top of that. I know it may be asking much but one can for sure dream.

Koyaku in my opinion feels like the monster counterpart to the Lance. Like how Glavenus is to GreatSword and Acidic Glavenus is to Long Sword. Maybe if Koyaku ever got brought into the mainline games, they could make a subspecies of it which could create explosions on the tip of its pointy parts and maybe use charged up explosions to jet itself forward even faster than the standard version. That way we get a sort of monster counterpart of the GunLance.

Awesome video! Thanks for the shout out! When I recorded my footage, I wanted MHO to be remembered by fans for years to come and it looks like it will be! I still have a lot of footage in my archive, but it's kind of a lot of the same as what I've already released, so I'm not sure if fans would want to see them or not. If there's more demand for it though then I will! - Xycor

Listening to estrelion made me realise something. There is a possibility that the sunbreak devs brought back the ideas she brought to create Gaismagorm, a possible successor, with the ideas of insects latching to the back of the monster changing its form. So there is a chance estrelion is still with us in some way.

To start I want to say thank you, and Nylusion, and anyone else who has for the work on preserving info on MHO. MHF has gained a lot of light thanks to many factors and it makes me happy because that had so many fantastic ideas but Online always felt so bare with info that it was hard to figure out how many things were in the game but fuck, Online had some incredible ideas and monsters that it genuinely hurts so bad that we may never see these monsters again, especially considering Estrellian has easily through this video and then through my own personal research, has become one of if not my all time favorite flagship that monster hunter has ever had, this is one of my favorite monster hunter vids from the community and thank you for the work in getting it out there. Edit: And on an extra note great work on crediting the footage!

"That One-Eared Yian Garuga" is actually technically a subspecies first introduced in MHFU. There's a quest series that ends with you hunting 5 of each Blue and Red Kut Kus, Hunting 10 Yian Garuga, beating a special powered up quest version of it, and then getting a G Village quest called "The One-Eared Wolf" and has a unique modeled, special, higher HP, single use texture for this specific Garuga that only has one ear and one torn up ear. Its a reused asset.

If slicemargle were in a new game, I would want a mechanic where if you kill a popo in the same area he's in, he instantly enrages and the AI prioritizes you even if you're playing with others for a limited time. You're killing his bait and proving yourself as prey the bait is meant for, after all.

If I could choose any of these to return, Id definitely take: -Lightenna, we need more bugs and I love the idea of a lightning grasshopper -Koyaku - He might need a revamped design, but I love the idea of a torpedo monster. Maybe adapt him to being an underwater Brute Wyvern that propels itself through the water at high speeds. -Estrellian - Just, everything about it. -Tartaronis - Definitely would be cool in an airship siege instead of on the ground. Maybe make it bigger so that we can jump onto its shell and fight there. -Merphistophelin - Id definitely go with the idea that the core is a *major* weak spot, but you also have the trade off of it switching elements/status depending on what weapon you're using. Non-Elemental weapons would likely be required.

I think Koyaku's physiology seems somewhat make sense. Bcs if a big piscine wyvern wants to become a torpedo, it's gonna need thin legs & thick thigh to support it's speed instead of piscine scuba flip-flop. The idea might be like a piscine wyvern who's trying to adapt/evolve into ground brute wyvern. And Koyaku's habitat could be coral reef near the beach, since his armor seems like it can be use for blending in

Baelidae is quite literally a species of animal that is called the Crab Spider. They also do have mimicry of large animals similar to the fantastical version we see in MHO. I think he would probably be the common ancestor between the Crabs of Monster Hunter and the Neopteran (I forget what their scientific names are) in the mainline games. Funny thing, I found a trailer for a graphical overhaul for Monster Hunter Online a day or two ago, not surprised people mention how good this game looked, not sure if it was environments and lighting only or if monsters were included, shame we never got to experienced what the game had to offered. @@cr-volcanic Agreed, that graphic update trailer really shows that Tencent was putting in a good effort to make Monster Hunter look as good as it could get at the time. I usually enjoy seeing or getting to experience an old MMO when they eventually get an overhaul. The jungle environment looked stunning after the update and other improvements like how even some simple icicles in the cold environments being completely remodelled and changed made for a much nicer look. Speaking of MMO and graphic updates, now I'm curious if FFXIV's Rathalos fight will get the graphical treatment with their update😅

Absolutely adore both Lightenna, and I think it'd be really nice to expand on the neopteron monster class tbh. All the dinosaur/draconic designs are great, but the more bug inspired ones really offer some variety! On another note, it's so unlikely, but fingers crossed for Estrellian (all/any of them). Them being a "???" monster has so much potential- could even focus a story around them. Sort of like Gore Magala! Not to mention their design being absolutely beautiful to begin with. Totally agree though that if Estrellian were brought back, hopefully they either take the best parts from all three or maybe combine them into a tougher one all around!

I genuinely lament the sheer fact we truly may never see monsters like Lightenna, Merphistophelin, and Baelidae due to copyright of all things, imagine the potential that’s been no likely squandered due to the unfortunate circumstances of Online getting shut down. As much as I’d love be wrong, it still seems unlikely. At least this will keep them immortalized rather than forgotten, for what that solace is worth. Online really is a total enigma that I think if I spent more time with, would’ve enjoyed a lot more than just having a more subtle acknowledgment and a deeper understanding, so this helps me know that it was interesting for what it was, and deserves to be respected. Preserving every faucet of Monster Hunter’s history is something we all should strive to do, and pray that Wilds gives us both many new fantastic monsters, and remnants of those who have been left behind. This is a fantastic video Volcanic, I can tell you put a lot of heart and soul into it just as the Frontier series was. I hope this takes off as well.

We might see some more of these monsters in the new mainline monster hunter game, as it think those fights are pretty cool as well, and can be pretty challenging in their own right if done correctly, as Ludroth was an excellent example of a smaller Piscine Wyvern, with some characteristics similar to later Fanged Wyverns like Zinogre.

Mephistofelum prolly will need to absorb from the environment for his elemental attacks cos if it's in the player weapons, that just mean raw non-elemental is king again. Unless specific materials depend on Mephistofelum to be in that elemental state, otherwise there's no incentive to bring an elemental weapon at all.

Great video. I’m a fan of the Online and the roster ,there’s some missing variants but it’s hard to find footage and you gotta go the extra mile to find the channels will the crazy gameplay but it’s worth it. Small theory I think Estrellian is base on the Zodiac Dragon and the Star Butterflies are the constellation.

Know what? With how it looks that we can change more easily between weapons in wilds, a version of merphistophelin that absorbs your current element to change defenses would be cool, having to carry 2 opposing elements on you to get 100% uptime on elemental damage, just make it weak enough to it so it is more of a bonus and not a chore you have to get through for normal dps.

Thank you for covering up MHO. ! MHO will be in my heart, in that time when the only PC platform MH are Frontier or just a bunch of emulators, MHO stand out and become a "proper" PC platform MH before MHW come ; KBM Support, item slot MMO style, LV and HR , trading markets for materials, 1 big city for all players hangout (ofcourse the villages too), more than 4 players for siege quest, boat quest for plesioth, etc. Me and some of my friends that time enjoying this game and we still hope, in near future, with Timi Studios collaboration again with Capcom to make MH game, we believe that some of MHO asset will be used and we will see some familiar monsters back from the dead! ofcourse if capcom can bring tencent original monsters to mainlinie that is my hopes too. once again, thank you CR-Volcanic for this video, MHO deserve to remembered by All of MH Fans, and MHO is part of Monster Hunter Franchise too. --Buddy16

@@cr-volcanicUkanlos wasn't in frontier either. Frontier started from Dos and added some Freedom 2 stuff and Ukanlos was Freedom Unite. That's also why Nargacuga is an exotic and not a native like Tigrex. Online took primarily Frontier as inspiration, which is probably why Ukanlos isn't included. Don't think anything from Unite and beyond was in it too.

Tartatonis really feels like a flying battleship and that's absolutely fantastic, I wish there was a better way to fight him while he's flying, maybe wirebugs would make the fight better, but I really want there to be a way to board his back and knock him out of the sky with a grappled strike. He's a battleship, why shouldn't we board him like one? also I'd like to see him use his wind abilities to propel himself forward on the ground so he's not just a fish out of water flapping around in the sand.

best monster hunter to this day imo´- and it still have been the best weapon handleing and keyboard transition of any real time action rpg of the east asian variaty - i just palyed it for bout 1.5 years then they shut it down in 2018 - now to be fair getting acces was kinda - grayzoneish - and the tranlöastion patches were welp -as far as one could go into a source code - but the vibes the guild mechanics - the grind fight graphics and monsters were insanly divers, decently thought through and very fun to actually play ( but you needed a grindset of a mindset to not get frustrated - i think i killed one mosnter 700 times or more to get he armor done - i actually played that monster so often that i startet watching series not paying attaention to the fight because the weapon flow was so good and hitboxes werent totally absurd

@@cr-volcanic It's as you said in the video, big monsters can be a little tedious in regards to their fight mechanics, so i always feel like adding raw spectacle to the fight is often the easiest and best fix. I was watching the koyaku charge attack animation and noticed him using his arms to stab into the ground and stop himself. I think it would be sick for him to use his arms to pivot and do a swinging kick or something like that would throw you off, like you think you're safe from behind and then he wheels around to sack you away. Kinda like the singing attack of gonngenn hermitaur but with a bit of fake-out thrown into it.

Still I have fond memories of it, even if I played alone, even if I had an hard time knowing what I was doing and what I had to do, it had the spirit of MH and looked beautifull, especially the maps, I remember stopping and looking at the environement quite a lot.
