Rangers finished 3rd in the Championship in 2014-15 and then missed out on promotion via the play-offs after losing to Motherwell in the final. Best part about it is the Brits would sell NI out in a heartbeat, twice they have tried to sell it back to Ireland, and a no deal brexit or even an open border brexit is going to kill NI, actually the whole of the UK is fucked when brexit happens but the 6 counties are the worst affected.

A lot of what you say is true. A good amount is left out however, especially around the conflict in the north of Ireland, how the two teams came to be symbols of the warring sides, and the modern day politics of the 2 sets of supporters. Whilst the derby was largely defined by religion in the past, politics now defines it. Celtic largely represent republicanism (not to be confused with the US brand of republicanism. Irish republicanism is very much rooted in socialist and left politics), anti monarchism, and left wing politics, whilst rangers fans represent unionism/loyalism, pro, monarchism, and the right wing. Whilst the religious riots of the past are gone from Glasgow, don’t let this fool you. The city is still very much segregated along old lines in some places, and political and footballing differences can sometimes mean death.

Contrary to what you say in this video, in the early days Rangers didn't have a specifically Protestant identity except in the sense of reflecting the fact that Scotland was an overwhelmingly Protestant country at the time (so no different to any other sporting institution). The more overtly Protestant aspect to the club's identity really came in following the move of Belfast shipyard Harland & Wolff to Govan (where Rangers are based) in 1912. By that time, there had also been the formation of clubs with overtly Irish Catholic roots - Celtic, Hibernian and Dundee Hibernian (later to become Dundee United) which also sharpened divisions.

While I didn't have tickets for the match, a friend and I went to Ibrox on the day, just to see what goes on. We couldn't believe our eyes, both sets of fans hurling abuse at each other, cursing each other to hell. I thought to myself, this is crazy, it's just a different flavour of the same religion, and most of these people are cut from the same cloth. From Alan Shields. Will I appreciate your attempts to cover The Old Firm rivalry there are more than a good few glaring errors In this video on the subject. Rangers actually played under the name of Argyle for the first two games against Callender F.C & Clydesdale F.C not Clyde F.C they are two completely different clubs the first games being played on Flashers Haugh a part of the upper part of Glasgow Green it was only after the first two games That the name Rangers was chosen as a permanent name Argyle only being used till a permanent name was found as a lot of teams did back in the 1800's. The founders of Rangers first started to play football after rowing practice down the Clyde as The Funding Fathers as they are known where members of Clydesdale Rowing Club as you can see in one of the pictures in the video a very early team picture of Rangers they players played there first games in the strips of Clydesdale Rowing .Club as separate entity of the Football.Club they played in there Second games as Argyle. Argyle came from the fact The Founding Fathers came from Argyle & Bute & had moved to Glasgow for work. Today the rivalry is mostly political. You did get a lot correct but you did get some things clearly wrong as anyone from The West of Scotland how Knows there football history will beable to tell. 7 out of 10 I love history especially Sports history it combines both my passions. It all began at Wittenberg in 1517. Also, yes it is representative of the fan base as a whole. Thus making it easier for the rest of us to identify and avoid them.

Just to put the record straight Zakwan.. and the producers of this vid.Rangers had No such policy EVER.. of not signing Catholic players. This is an idea put about by people who want to blacken the name of the club and those (many of them in the "Scottish" media) who are too lazy to read up on the history of Scottish football.Rangers were signing Catholic payers and players of any religion and none BEFORE Celtic (and Hibs ) were even formed. Some of Rangers best players were Irish catholics. As Hibs and Celtic rose to prominence and success almost the whole of the footbaling community of young Catholic men chose to follow Celtic and play for Celtic. It became natural with the introduction of separate Catholic schools for this to be the case.Hibs were the first Senior team in Scotland to introduce sectarianism into football.Initially you had to be a PRACTICING Catholic to play for Hibs.Celtic were formed with the help of . and in imitation of Hibs. Celtic were Irish Catholic in everything but their playing staff.because their committee narrowly voted down a proposal to limit the number of protestants in the first team to Four players!Separate schools re-enforced the division of Rangers being a protestant team and Celtic Catholic.Catholic players did play for Rangers after Celtic were formed and became successful but not in their initial numbers. There was never an official No Catholics at Ibrox policy. It was a development of cultural and religious life (and possibly Political life) in the West of Scotland throughout that period.

One small correction - Rangers weren't "sent down to the fourth tier due to unpaid taxes", they went into administration in 2012 and then were liquidated. One of the beneficiaries was HMRC who were chasing unpaid taxes. Since football clubs are "incorporated" (look it up Sevconians), the team now pretending to be "Rangers" are a fraudulent tribute act, who were allowed to join the professional league at the bottom, despite the SFA trying to parachute them in higher.

decent enough explanation, but there were some inaccuracies and ambiguous statements that do not correctly outline Rangers protestant history from a contextual standpoint prior to, and devoid of, the later sectarian elements that infiltrated the club fan base. Rangers predominantly protestant fan base was initially the result of Scotland's majority protestant population. It was never a club that was born of sectarianism, nor rally a collective identity group under its banner. The later sectarian infiltration of rangers was a result of Celtic being formed. Celtic, even to the dismay of other Irish catholic clubs like Hibernian, entered into the arena as an institution seen to keep catholics away from protestant soup kitchens and potential proselyzation of catholics by the presbyterian charity workers who volunteered therein: Arguably hindering integration of irish catholics into scottish society as a result. Of course, Celtic historians can equally dismiss this and claim that was never the reason for Celtic's formation nor did the club play a part in aggravating anticatholic sentiment; and they may even be right. however, the bottom line is that those not of Celtic (from every corner of scottish social commentary), understood Celtic's formation as a deliberate and provocative snub towards Scottish society. History is easily rewritten when the overall context has been muddied by other, truly unfortunate aspects not directly linked with Celtic (such as the irish famine, and brutal british imperial rule of ireland), but the social and political plight of irish immigrants was not something the catholic church sought to rectify, but rather continue to ensure that it be maintained for the vatican's own political leverage in the predominantly protestant UK.

West Ham vs Millwall One of the most violent derbies. Although the to teams did come together to raise money for a sick fan.

Rangers have never proclaimed to be a Scottish club, they are anti Scottish with an allegiance to the British crown

Oliver Young all of yous are talking Shite! Most or Celtic and Rangers fans are proud to be Scottish but you get the dickheads in both sides. Like the idiots that with say they’re British and not Scottish and the idiots who call themselves Irish when they were born in easterhouse! I’m a Celtic fan but both clubs have good fans and brain dead fans!

Dylan Stevenson (say both sides are dumb but don't explain why because your just as stupid) excellent move.

Ben Russell - Shevchenko didn’t say both sides are dumb. Said both sides have brain dead fans that take it for more than it is... a football game.

Iain McEnroe the blue order always wave the Scottish flag there’s more saltires at Ibrox than there is at Parkhead yous seem to prefer to fly foreign flags like the Irish, Catalonia and Palestine flags. 😣

Excellent work man, except in the title you put old firm but the last old firm was in 2012 as rangers went bankrupt, now it is a new officially called 'Sefco' but nicknamed rangers who have taken rangers' spot in the Scottish league. The derby is now only called the Glasgow derby, Not the old firm

Here after Celtic defeated Rangers 2-1 to win the Scottish League Cup. This rivalry was so big, especially because this year marks the 150th anniversary of the Scottish football and the first rivalry against England.

It's a pity there's no longer an 'Old Firm' derby anymore due to The Rangers Football Club being liquidated in 2012 😢

Celtic were not only formed for the Irish immigrants but also for the native Scots that were still catholic or Celtic (pronounced keltic and Gaelic speakers) despite the reformation of Scotland, not all of us became Protestants. So to say that rangers are the natives Scots is not accurate, Like many countries, England just divided us all. Celtic fans are much more inclined to support the Scottish national team and also Scottish independence compared to rangers fans. Other than that great video will check out the rest of the series!

Yup, just taken literally a few seconds to double check and sure enough, in the 2014/15 season (the new rangers 1st in the Scottish championship) they finished 3rd behind Hearts (1st) and Hibernian (2nd). They went on to lose the playoff with Premiership side Motherwell 6-1 on aggregate. They then went on to win the championship in the 2015/16 season
