Had that Americas Cup SM in my hands 2 days ago in the Omega Boutique here in Amsterdam. The quick release mechanism is great, no question. Waiting for my white Speedmaster though. Good video.

Kia Ora from Dunedin! Love hearing the Korimako (bell birds) nutting off in the background! Hey yeah I've been rather keen on Omega and nearly purchased a 007 NTTD in Japan but settled for the Tudor FXD Alinghi Red Moo Chronograph instead as the deal was just so good. The problem that I have with Omega is this: I had my eye on an Grey/Orange PO Chrono for a couple of years at a dealer in Ch-Ch. Last year the price of that watch increased by $2 GRAND even though it was old stock. When I complained the AD said that they had no choice - Omega had forced the price change on them. Well if Omega are gonna play that game they can shove their watches up their Budgerigars! That is extortion and Snobbery, as well as shifting the goal posts. Also if a NZ brand did this they would be arrested and fined by the Commerce Commission. As much as I love their watches and design language I absolutely detest their pricing strategy. Good discussion and points mentioned in this video though, keep it up. Hopefully a Tui will provide some background music in your next video!

@wingi7722 Hello and thanks for the feedback and comment. I totally understand your sentiment regarding the Omega process increases and pre-increase floor stock. I guess the AD has all these watches on consignment until they're sold, so they have to put the price up as it's been put up on them by Omega. Over 30% in the last 5 years btw!! But enough people are still buying 🙄

My next Omega at some point is the Aqua Terra Small Seconds blue dial on blue rubber. A fantastic fun weekend watch. They'll probably go down to 3K on the secondary market in a year or 2.

I think the black dialed SM300 Omega used on AC marketing material isn't the same or even similar watch to the one spotted on Daniel Craig's wrist. As you mentioned his one had an old-school relief wave pattern not laser etched, all white dial text (no red in Seamaster text and the tip of the second hand) and that bracelet is standard SM bracelet with SELs not Milanese mesh. We'll have to wait and see, someone on the Omega forum commented the new SM300 is targeted for November release, fingers crossed it's the one Daniel wears and in ~40mm please :)

Another interesting video and always good to hear your thoughts on new releases and predictions. I do think they will release the SMP that Daniel Craig was recently seen wearing before the end of the year. I think it was only a month or two after he was seen wearing the white dial speedmaster that they released that one.

@@TheRandomWatchDude that’s interesting. I wonder if they will permanently remove the date from the core SMP to enable it to be thinner. I’m not sure I’d want a no date version on the current design. I prefer a daily dive watch to have a date. In fact I’m currently deciding whether to move on the current model I have to enable me to get an electric blue and a Peter Blake to have 2 thin, comfortable SMPs with a date.

You and I both have the Peter Blake. I bought mine new in 2003. Always loved it and very glad it's been recognised as a neo-classic. But a few months ago I tried on a similar vintage Seamaster 300 Americas Cup regatta timer 2869.50.91. You might know it. It has 5 small circular windows that change colour from black to blue to red as up to 15 minute countdown progresses. It's quite striking. The one I tried needed work so I didn't proceed. But I'm watching Chrono24 for the right one. It is 44mm but yacht watches are supposed to be big and easy to read. It wore smaller on the rubber strap.

The Olympic Games SE had the same bracelet with quick release. The Americas Cup is a bit of a rehash of the Tokyo Olympics SM SE which is a stunning colour combo and overall cleaner looking.

Railmaster was strangely not very popular, when it should have been! Good size, good price, clean dial, all brushed. I genuinely think that if it was called something more trendy, it would be more popular.

Omega probably has thousands of seamasters in storage they can’t sell so they probably won’t release a new one just yet. The Olympic Seamaster had the quick release bracelet too 👍🏼 Omega has been run so badly in recent years it’s been painful to watch. Hopefully they can get someone in who knows what they are doing because it’s a shambles at the moment.

Good discussion on Omega. As with any luxury items, watches are not immune to economic downturns in the global market. I think companies like Rolex, Patek, and others including the Swatch brands have the cash to weather these global economic cycles, but perhaps smaller brands may struggle however. Making incremental improvements and features on various watch brands makes sense and a good way to save cash and still offer the market products that can drive sales. Could this be a good opportunity to be a buyer in this market condition? Maybe. Thanks,

Rolex are doing just fine. My local AD, for example, has increased their supply by about 3 or 4x and they're all sold within a few days each time there is a new drop.
