Thanks for the video. We were there and after it had finished the queues for the Park and Ride buses back to our car were so long that we spent about half an hour messing about on the 16th green. A guy from America and his son had a golf ball and we rolled it around the slopes in and out of the bunker where Bjorn capitulated - the green was lightning fast compared to public courses. Unsuprisingly Bjorn was in a foul mood after the round, walked past us after leaving the clubhouse.

750-1, no top-tens on the PGA Tour up to this point, qualified by finishing 13th at the Western Open a fortnight earlier. What makes Ben Curtis' victory even more remarkable is that he had the highest quality contenders of any major that season to beat - Vijay Singh, Davis Love III and of course Tiger Woods, all at the peak of their powers.

Great stuff. Thanks for uploading. I loved PGA golf in the 90s and through the 2000s.

I got to watch Ben Curtis tee off at the 10th tee at TPC Sawgrass in 2004. I was only a few feet away from him. There was something about him that was very Zen like. No nervous fidgeting. He seemed like he was totally "in the zone." He had a special kind of presence and he had a maturity beyond his years. I also got to watch (and listen to) Sergio hit his 3 wood. It was the most solid sounding shot I heard that day. It was so Pure. My young wife was giggling because she had a slight crush on Sergio.

Steve Peterson I thought he was the golfing Tom Brady. His win in this tournament was rather like the Patriots win in the 2001 Super Bowl. Then the rest of his career happened LOL. Nice guy though I met him at one of the only PGA tournaments he won besides this Open Championship, at TPC Avenal in 2006 it’s now the Quicken Loans National back then it was Booz-Allen. Fun fact last PGA tourney to end on a Tuesday (I wasn’t there for that lol) and the finish wasn’t on tv cuz ESPN had packed up and left

Almost everyone says Ben’s win was a fluke. And yeah, of course he was a complete unknown when he won..but he was the number 1 amateur in the world when he turned pro.

Everyone but Ben was hitting high balls. Ben’s were landing 60 yds short and running to safe places. Don’t blame him for outsmarting the field. Just watch Phil hit horrible shots all afternoon.

The spare, dour and incisive repartee of the British announcers: so refreshing. Lets the listener fill in the blank. No gets-gots-goes-to-moves-to filler language of the logorrheic American commentators.

If there is 1 blemish on Tigers career it’s his inability to win from behind until his last major when everyone else blew up

Oh the good days when the r&a and BBC cared about the future of golf......not anymore, take the money and let about 3 people watch the open. Wonder why no one getting inspired to take up sport in the UK

It's suffering here in the states too mainly because of cost and how long it takes to play a round.

Open attendance figures have been increasing every year, including some record-breaking figures. TV viewing figures are up. Golf club memberships are up. So your argument doesn’t really hold up, I’m afraid!

Tv audience aren't up at all, they're so far down from the 90s.... Less than 2 million watched the last open on sky.... Over 8 million watched the BBC 3 hour highlights..... Wonder why. And the numbers of golfers have increased but from the 30-40 age bracket not kids which I was trying to pint out.... Junior numbers massively under what they once were.... Because they don't see it on free TV

That’s such an outdated argument. Practically no households nowadays don’t have Sky. Plus most golf can be accessed & watched online - and who doesn’t have the internet? The idea that sport only gets exposure if it’s on the BBC is such a 1990s argument. It bears no relation to reality in 2020. Ever-increasing crowd figures at tournaments, particularly The Open, don’t indicate that golf’s popularity has suffered by moving off the BBC.

@@andrewrobinson8305 Err is it cobblers........ Let this sink in. The last open sky had less than 3m watching the last day..... Bbcs 3 hour highlights had around 8m watching it. Look at the uks junior section.... No kids are taking up the game ffs, then you add the sky beauty... Less than 10 percent of the country has sky,..... Because no one can afford it, chirst best in £100 a month... Yeah right
