The E9X M3 has also felt like a blank canvas as it covered its Motorsport DNA that used to be front and center to the experience in the E46 M3.
This uncovers it all.
It reminds you at every single gear shift, at every single RPM - that you’re driving something truly special and arguably the peak of BMW M powertrain development.
The combination of the DCT carbon steel lightweight flywheel, 1 piece carbon fiber driveshaft and the solid subframe bushings have augmented the S65 experience to new heights.
We’ve lost close to 20 lbs on the rotating assembly, you’d lose more if you have an early generation DCT with its 8 lbs heavier flywheel.
The extra torque that is distributed by the DCT is no longer lost in the OE damper zones - it gets sent to the ground.
You best be ready.
It feels much faster, and it is.
These first impressions were shared by E9X M3 owner @mikegig55 as I took him on a drive.
There are some caveats you need to be aware of to this lightened drivetrain program.

Reconditioning:
- OE swaybar bushings
- OE tie rods
- Fire Orange Painted Subframe
- Satin Black Differential, Half Shafts, Rear Sway Bars
- Repaired and Repainted GTS 5 piece chassis lip
- All brackets, bolts, mounting points and underbody shields were reconditioned.
- New Spindle & Drivetrain OE Bolts
- New pads & sensors
- Brake fluid flush
- Coolant system slush
- Complete DCT fluid, filter and O-ring service
- New DCT coolant hose
- Diff flush with magnetic drain plug
Upgrades:
- Lightweight Carbon Steel DCT flywheel

- Enlarged DCT Aluminum Oil Pans with GTS filling specs
