This is awesome KM. My favorite restaurant, Bklyn, NYC is Senegalese, Jollof. Your embracing an "Wholistic" view of Afrika is refreshing and inspiring! Asante sana 😊

Now, that we know where, the question arises WHEN did Jollof rice originate? The presence of tomatoes, a distinctly American fruit used by the Mayans and Aztecs in ancient times, may indicate or even prove pre-Colombian trans-Atlantic trade between West Africans and Mesoamerican people. The traditional Western scholarship will be determined to make that date post 1492, but I would love to know the true date of Jollof rice’s origins.

Many west Africans from the rice producing areas were enslaved and brought to the Carolina islands specifically to grow rice.
@thaliahall4599
@thaliahall4599 Жыл бұрын
Glad u mentioned this. Unfortunately, the European enslavers were well aware that west Africans, especially those from Senegal-Gambia were very experienced with growing & cultivating rice. Many were taken to the southern US, especially the Mississippi Delta region. Unfortunately many of them died from diseases carried by mosquitoes & of course from abuse.😢

Senegambia region for sure. But doesn't Jollof rice contain bell peppers and tomato as essential ingredients? To my knowledge, those are indigenous American crops and did not exist anywhere else in the world until the 15th/16th century Atlantic trade. Unless one can also make Jollof with spices, I know there are many variations.

Hey Metatron! Can you please make a debunking video about the King’s Monologue? He is a KZbinr that has made videos from claiming Elizabeth I was actually a black woman to claiming paella is West African. The people that watch his channel believe him 100% and I find that worrying 😅. He also made a short video against something you said
