Ok let's make it simple and clear... in aramean there is 3 declension of nouns... the absolut which is used as word without article... "a god" the construct which is used when that word is joint to the following... in that form example nouns finishing with a He would turn into a Ta... (which cognate the Ta marbutah in arabic which is used at the ending of word and being called Ta transcib the sound Ha still) then the Empathic which is used as a nouns WITH article... "THE god" the empathic declension add a Aleph at the end of the root which a "a" vowel... thus if you take the word EL which is the word generic used among all semitic language for god/gods... then the contructed form would be aleph-lamed-aleph... Ala... then there is also the Ancien form of declension for Nominative, genitive and accusative... the nominative use waw suffix, the genetive use Yod suffixe( as seen in many name of angels, like gabr-Y-el; and the Accusative use the He suffix... so then it's possible to assume that in prayers, when addressing to The God, "Ala", a He would be added thus making it Alah... and that form would ppass into commun use and become a fixed form. It must be also taken into account the overlapping of various other existing homophonics word name with similar meaning ... elion, Ilah, elohim, eloah... all those just being reduced to a simple Allah, since arabic have only 3 vowels... A, U and I... there is no reason to search for a single origin of a phonems so genericly used among semitic people for the same meaning... pretty much like all the westerners use the word God, Dios, Deus, Dieu, etc. which is just a generic Indo-european root for god... no one claim that current christian are worshipping Jupiter!! and yet Ju-piter... stem from Zeus- Pater... litterally God the father... I'm tired to see all that intellectual dishonesty about something so simple.

If you think about it, when Mo's grandfather Abdul-Muttalib made the contract to sacrifice Mo's father Abdullah (one of his 10 sons) to Allah/Hubal/Baal/Satan, in a way Abdullah was given over to Allah/Hubal/Baal/Satan. Abdullah's life was spared with the sacrifice of the 100 camels, but Abdullah still had to pay - he ended up doing so by giving up his only son Mo over to Allah/Hubal/Baal/Satan. Abdullah died while Mo was still in his mother's womb such that Mo never had a real father. Well, maybe he did. His true father later visited him in the cave.

As a matter of fact the whole struggle of Mohammed (pbuh) revolved around the doctrine of Divinity based on "Tauheed" - Oneness of God with the nature of not being in parts. This doctrine of Tauheed vigorously opposed the belief system of the pagans revolving around polytheism or henotheism. All the quotes you have referred to pertain to the pre-islamic Arabia. This is very true that even at the time of Mohammed (pbuh) the practice of pagans was in vogue as we all know before the attainment of prophethood he kept his silence over Divinity. Cutting across the fetish of contending over the names of God (Allah, Ilah, Elohim, YHWH, Adonai, Brahma...) we need to focus on the attributes of God to match the human sensibility. Your contention would have made a sense if the statue of hubal had been replaced by another one named allah. But in reality the whole doctrine of Divinity was defined quite contrarily to what was in practice by the pagans. Over the rebuttal of moon god the verse in the Quran was revealed (41:37), similar to Deuteronomy 17:3. The noteworthy point about the Quran is that it summarises and puts a final seal on the essence of Divinity revealed in all the Divine Books over the ages. There is no new idea over Divinity except for a warning against all the concoctions not only to the pagans but to those as well who have gone astray from the mainstream of Divinity. Referring to Mr. Fadi I would request him to give some kind of Islamic reference, to prove he is not a liar, about the rain god he alluded to. (intended for the truth-seekers and aimed at arriving at Truth than anything else.)

Allah is a title used for cheif god in a panteon. Like you call *President* for the chief leader. In nabatean culture Dushara was termed/ called as Allah. In Arabia it was Hubal the moon god. The chief god ( allah ). In Qur'an we can see as an example in Surat al fathiha and Surat Ya Sin In Al-Fatiha Alhamdu li Lahi ( The praise be To Lah ) You can clearly see Lah written in AlFatiha Lah is a moon god in semetic land. *Surat Ya Sīn* Here the surah begins with calling Sīn. Ya Sīn means O Sīn There is no translation for Sīn. And according to Islamic narrative, it is the one of the name of allah. Sīn is the moon god of Assyria. Moon god of semitic land. Equal to Hubal and Lah ( same in attributes) So allah is just a title for prime god . The chief god. In islam it's Hubal . When Christians and jews call allah. For us there is only one god Yahweh. So the title of prime god ( allah ) goes to Yahweh because there is no other god beside him for us. That's why in Arabic translation of The Holy Bible we use Allah ( Supreme God ) instead of ilah for the term of God. Allah is just a title. Title for chief god.
