The Custom Set #1 also includes a light up beam saber. I own both upgrade sets and the original PG RX-78-2 and it’s held up pretty good for me having it for 20 years now.

@@MechaGaikotsu They have, but they don’t do it very often and not much extra weapons just clear armor. The last PG weapon upgrade sets that I’ve seen were for the Unicorn Gundam to make it into Full Armor Mode and then there was the weapon upgrade set for the PG Strike Gundam to make it into the Perfect Strike, and then there’s the upgrade set for PG Exia to make it into the Exia Repair. But unfortunately all of these are P-Bandai exclusives. I also have the upgrade kits for the PG Zaku 2 sets #1 and #2 which has a light up Heat Hawk and other weapons and clear armor.

Man i miss the old details and intense inner frames of the old perfect grades. They stopped doing this level of detail at the perfect grade strike. But the GP01 and the MKII gundams are intense with the inner details and the moving pistons. Always wanted the original RX78-2, especially sfter building the old Zaku. They're not great kits on the mobility but the inner frame is top tier

Lower grit sand papers are rougher in touch. You should use 400 grit papers for preparing surfaces for further sanding with 600 grit and either spray primer or use even higher grits for polishing.

As someone who owns PG Rx78-2 thats from 1997 My experience is overall is there is a lot of issue specially the knees as the giant polycap crack at me after only a month of building Maybe the reason is my copy is not a recent it maybe around 2000 but I am bit sure as It was a gift from my cousin who is also into gunpla

I will always love the spirit with which the OG PG RX was made. It simply feels like a scaled down version of an actual machine, with its' pistons, hydraulics, details like piping, etc, and even down to its' relatively limited articulation (at least compared to modern offerings), giving it a bit of a charming, clunky, mechanical, yet still unmistakeably slick feel. It continues to be the gold standard by which I judge my kits. It's why the PG Wing 0, MKII, and GP01 all tickle something in me, and why the only modern kit I've built that I've truly loved has been the Barbados.

Hi there, built this model almost 20 years ago now and there are a couple of pieces that you didn't get that wouldve made for a better display. 1. A non-transforming core block that you could interchange with the core fighter. The static core block also had a lot of panels removed to show underneath the armor, like the main engines for the fighter mode. 2. Landing gear for the core fighter. They were only made of chromed plasric and black plastic for the tires, but they were awesome to have if you wanted to have a diorama where the core fighter was getting ready for take off. 3. The battery fore the light unit in the head is a CR2025 button cell if memory serves. Only thing about the light is that theres only one led bulb in the head and it only looks good at an angle looking at either eye, not both. 4. The beams for the beam sabers are long enough that you could use them as chop sticks if you put the hilts on. Some fun facts about the box now. 1. The box that it came in was 3 feet wide by 11 inches tall. 2. Inside that box was another box that was the size of a Master Grade box at the time. Probably over 30 runners, one construction manual, and booklet on the history of Gundam project on the whole, entirely in Japanese.

Me and my cousin built this in the early 2000s and if I remember correctly all the joints that weren't screwed in were a little floppy from the start. Particularly Legs and knees always gave me trouble as well.

I love my PG granddaddy but boy does it not hold up well. Had to customise the eyes as they were fully clear with no black round the sides to darken it when the LED is on. 7 years later and it’s arm droops so it now looks like it’s shooting my MG GP01 in the back of the head.

Soak your finger with water regularly when manipulating the putty, it makes a lot easyer to shape them

For clear kits I HIGHLY recommend the RG zeong. Its a nice clear purple like the old Nintendo systems and that inner frame is jaw dropping

I have recently built the perfect grade zaku, the perfect grade Gundam mk2 and last, but certainly not least pg Zeta Gundam… these kits are old and don’t have good reviews and there’s nobody online showing the best process to wire up the electronic parts.. all that being said, when you finish a vintage perfect grade, it’s one of the most gratifying things you’ve ever done.. and yes, Zeta is easily the hardest one to build because it has to transform… I recommend you build some of the old ones, they really are a challenge 😅

I’ve done this kit, it was my second PG kit, my first was PG Wing Gundam Zero. I have both upgrade sets for this PG RX-78-2. I also have the PG Zeta Gundam, PG Strike Gundam (and the P-Bandai upgrade kit for the Perfect Strike Gundam), PG Skygrasper, PG Zaku (Char’s), PG Zaku (green) and both PG upgrade kits for the Zaku, and PG Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai. I would love to get the PG RX-178 MK-II in both colors and maybe even all of the standard PG releases. I know that these are old builds but they are still fun and PG kits have been some of my favorites.

I love this PG Gundam, Im trying to find that add on kit for it. Its not necessary replaced by the unleashed either. The look is completely different, and I love the opening hatches. Plus, for a while, you could find the old PG for less than $150. I got mine for $120.

If you are interested in clear Gundam. I recommended... 1. MG Eclipse Gundam clear color 2. MG TRANS-AM 00 RAISER [CLEAR COLOR VER.] 3. MG Barbatos clear color 4. HG Calibarn clear color 5. HG Aeriel clear color 6. RG Nu and Sazabi All of them are limited (I'm not sure if all of the clear colors are limited items) but these kits I mentioned have glass styles where you can see the inner frame clearly. Some of the clear versions are a little bit cloudy? (not sure about the word but it is barely visible inside). I also sometimes paint chrome silver from the inside to make the clear look unique!

Clear colors are The Gundam Base Limited (TGBL) there's also mechanical clear which are colorless clear and are limited expo

I think you should use the pgu rx-778-2 red piece and use oyumaru to make a mold and then use green stuff to make it its makes a nicer look I think than free handing it. I mean it’s still looks pretty good to me unnoticeable

I have the PG Zaku and both of the upgrade kits to make it mechanical clear. Plus they have the extra accessories including a light up Heat Hawk, 2 Zaku bazookas, 2 cracker (grenades), leg missile pods, 2 sturm fausts (stored and launched forms), it’s a cool setup.

Tho I heard Green stuff doesn't sand as well as other putties cause it's still a bit rubbery after so maybe Tamiya Quick Type is something better you could use soon if you ever go down the rabbit hole Well done man!

The only clear kit I own is the MG 2.0 Hyaku Shiki and only because it is my favorite suite and I buy every variation I can. otherwise I dont care for the clear kits.

As an owner of an original one I got when they first came out (as well as the Eva-01...ugh), there are definitely some weak points of the kit. The way the shield attaches to the arm is very sturdy...but also can easily break when removing it. The polycaps that hold on the armor tend to pop off the armor even on a fresh built kit. The issues you're having with posability are mostly down to whoever built the kit. The shoulders have much more range of motion than that, but whoever built it likely overtightened the screws. I really wish Bandai had included posable hands with the PGU as it's my biggest complaint with it. I've never had a problem with the posable PG hands, and I have most of the PG kits in my collection. I also like the larger opening hatches on OG PG vs the PGU as you see more of the frame.

To be honest, I love a ton of surface detail on my kits, so it's PGU all the way for me. Maybe it's because of my love for 80s and 90s mecha OVAs where they would always have the glory shots of pistons moving, joints flexing and an abundance of mechanical detail just to show off the staff's art and animation. But on the other hand, when it comes to official designs, I prefer simpler ones. I would take the RX-78 or the Turn A any day over the Strike Freedom or Unicorn. I don't really like super busy designs that have a bunch of stuff hanging off it. The upside of simpler designs is they are infinitely customizable and adaptable. That's why there are countless versions of the RX-78, you can do so much with the design. You can't really add anything or customize an already busy design.

Some of the best clear kits in my opinion are the Art of Gundam kits. They're popular MGs with all the armor being clear. While nothing too special, the boxes look very nice and premium. Something in simplicity I guess. The Astray Red Frame version has a electroplated red on the inner frame to really make it pop. Not sure if the others have anything special to their frames. To my knowledge, these kits are the only ways to get a clear versions of the MG 00 Raiser in it's regular colors. There's a clear color trans-am version. MG Unicorn in clear color and green psycho frame. There is a mechanical clear full armor gundam, but I believe the white parts aren't the same color and I don't believe the blue parts are clear. MG Astray Red Frame. The original basic MG Red Frame is already a P-bandai kit. This has electroplated red armor and inner frame and the white is a clear white. There exists some sort of expansion part set for the MG Astray Red Frame in which some of the armor is clear, but It's not all the armor like the PG RX-78-2 in this video. There is only one clear color MG Wing Gundam Proto Zero and it comes from this line. There are also exclusive mechanical clear versions of the MG RX-78-2 3.0 and the MG Char's Zaku II 2.0. The Mega Size clear color RX-78-2 is also a part of this line

So, im a 1/144th scale builder by in large. Only 2 that arent 1/144th in my collection. I love anime accurate HGs when im like “i just want this finished product on my shelf” and the super stylized RGs when i want the build to be an experience. I admire the PGs that Other people put together but every time i think about what its probably like to build one myself, im like “no i dont want anything to do with that”. Im fine when im sitting at the desk working on each one but when im not at the desk, i get impatient with how slow builds go sometimes. Its like i want to - want to build a PG but i talk myself out of buying one every time i go to “re-up” the backlog. Usually a Seed or Unicorn PG kit that makes me stop and think about if i really want to. So i ask the community: do i trust my gut and stay away from PG? Are PGs that special that i should go out of my comfort zone with one? Are they varied and unique enough to where maybe there is 1 that’ll be right for me like goldilocks?

Those pg sets are annoying for modern collectors because half or more of the accessories for the Gundam and zaku are in those extra sets and they don't get reprinted so if you want a complete pg Gundam/zaku/chars zaku you have to buy it would be extremely expensive or possibly not at all because older Gundam kits are super expensive if they don't get reprinted like the mg zaku f2 arguably the best looking older zaku kit but it hasn't been reprinted in almost 20 years

While I understand the logistical issues of action bases in this scale, it is a crying shame that so many PG's have no Bandai support other than, "LOL, sucks to be you." The level of poseability these kits offer is merely hypothetical, and will rarely be achieved once the limb is attached. MENG seems to be the only company that makes LARGE action stands, mostly, but not exclusively, for their GIGANTIC Eva series kits.
