In the rural area of Devon England where I live there was access at the back to either empty a bucket or dig out the pit. A box of ashes was provided with a shovel in the Privy, for you to flush with. This absorbed liquids, and killed smells. Once emptied it was mixed with earth and set aside to compost, nothing wasted. In the Midland Industrial towns my father could remember the 'night soil' men coming around to empty the privy buckets. They looked like spooky monks because they wore a seal skin coat with a hood. The reason was that they hoisted these containers up onto their shoulders to empty the containers into the horse drawn cart. It must make good compost, they say the best tomatoes you'll ever see grow on the edges of sewage lakes.
@metpatpetet76853 жыл бұрын
@@glendakirby5579 Before the invention of the flush toilet, "earth toilets" were very common, even inside dwellings which had a "necessary room" with a commode. When one was finished, one shoveled a thin layer of dirt from an adjacent box to cover, and a servant would remove the entire box containing the "refuse" later.
@islandman58023 жыл бұрын

Always move a full outhouse forward to stop the decaying hole from being at your feet where you were thinking of putting it. Using Lyme also helps to decay human waste and keeps it clean smelling. We had paper bags in our outhouse ( lunch bag size) putting your used paper in it then toss it into the stove. Fluid drains well through sand, paper not so much. It looks welcoming so I guess there will be a magazine rack there and some hand sanitizer, oh yes and a can of OFF. See you on the next one!

Shawn. Try using bakers yeast once a year just at the end of summer. We did that at a Boy Scout camp. Hello James. I am an avid companion of your channel. I was wondering if you've heard of a small wastewater treatment plant. Wouldn't that be interesting for you too? I also live in a suburb that is not connected to the general sewer network. Such a system clarifies your wastewater and can safely be drained into a ditch. However, the solid components would have to be disposed of. This can be done with a farmer's slurry pump. So you don't have to move your outhouse to another place when your bunker is full. Incidentally, the wastewater from the house can also be diverted there. Perhaps you can also consider whether a toilet could be installed directly in the house or at the house. Then you don't have to relieve yourself in the cold of winter with a thick jacket. You also have to be comfortable in the wilderness, or do you have a camping toilet in a quiet corner during the cold season? Just kidding on the side. I would be happy if I got an answer. Stay healthy and full of energy. Adrian from Germany

We had a septic tank and used a product that "supposedly" broke down the waste and liquefied it so it would leach out faster, I can't remember the product name but I do know my father at one time used Lime and was told never put it in any septic system,it helps the smell but slows down the breaking down process. To be honest, I would let it fill up, haul the waste next door and give some crap to the neighbor who gave you so much.
