I remember playing china in HoI 1, in that game you could research everything at once provided you had enough industrial power to do so, and you could develop 1 industrial power in every province you had every year, china had A LOT of provinces. They also had all the natural resources needed to fuel that industry. Around 1940 you would be top 1 in industry and research and just open the flood gates

I mean it just comes down to putting your fleet out and launching the naval invasion the same hour that you declare war. It means the AI hasn't had time to put out their navy and so for that one hour you have naval supremacy which is all it takes to launch an invasion.

I started playing China this week and they are not that hard to play and are kind of OP with the high manpower. I did area defense along my coast and told them to only guard ports and coastlines. This held off all naval invasions. I flooded troops around Beijing as well and held on (mostly near that river just south of Beijing). For focus, I beligned to integrate warlords to get Guangxi Steel that I needed then went Army reforms and got rid of my bad modifiers. As well as got to 3-4 research spots and loaded up on industrial and infantry tech. As time goes on, the negative modifiers go away and there is even a focus that gives defense bonus on land and another modifier that gives you offensive bonus against Japan. One you get all of that, the war starts to turn in your favor. Take airbases and Japan losses its air force superiority and you really can push them out of Asia. Once you have dealt with Japan, you could have over 20 million manpower (on limited conscription) and hopefully have integrated the other warlord states. Deal with Communists and you have a huge, industrial China with a modern army that can massacre anyone.

I could get naval supremacy if I declared on Japan, but then their army wouldn't all be in China. If they declared on me, I couldn't get naval supremacy.
