It's a matter of perspective as well, its wide reaching. Esports as a whole is dropping off from cs to LoL all are showing downwards slopes for a while now. From investers pulling out massive layoffs and way to much investment at the start with honestly foolish amount of copium in expecting any return from it

It’s a video game guys, Not a career opportunity. It’s way to volatile career path and people think they work for blizzard and like to give tons of “feedback and opinions” but blizzard runs the game not content creators. Creators are pretty much free lance employees.

@naverich46035 ай бұрын
Honestly, that's only one of the many reasons why do it :D Being self employed is the freedom our ancestors dreamed about. Having your own small business is as well... 🤷♂️ I'd rather be making 70k a year working on myself than 400k for someone else. Knowing that all the effort you put in will bear fruits just for you 100%, that you won't get just a small cut from someone who may not even fully appreciate your work...that's a true freedom

this is also why motivation is so important. Following dreams very often is about finding personal satisfaction in what you're doing, and not primarily about generating monetary value.

I am a semi-competitive/amateur overwatch player. I'm in a discord org and part of a team, where we're more friends than anything playing in what is essentially a rec league. I love it, but it amazes me that it was started by someone who is completely removed from Blizzard aside from his love of the game - it was such a sad missed opportunity. There are hundreds of people in the server and everyone is just straight up pumped about competitive overwatch, but we have nothing connecting us to the broader community via Blizzard aside from the game queue. We all love the pro scene. Hell, the best in the server have aspirations of OWCS. This server is a beautiful thing. We all enjoy the game way more than we do queuing up solo queue and its a community in and of itself. The fact that Blizzard is doing less than nothing to foster this type of community is an incredible missed opportunity. It's diminished the community as a whole, and is a stupid business decision. And trust me, if there were more communities like Shadow, OWCS would be WAY more popular. A lot of us are nerds for that sort of thing.

What do you mean about the format for league being bad and it ruined rokit? You’re right tho about not knowing anything about it. Also what bit rate is your recorded overwatch? Looks really crispy during movement.
@lexbracho32525 ай бұрын
There are way too many variables to account for in a changing environment. This game isn't honest to their players to begin with. It's aggressively monetized, and the gameplay experience isn't the best either. You're putting your "hopes" in a bad product. Just look at the most recent patches, they don't even know how to solve the tank problem, and now they want them even tankier. It's cool that you're bringing non-overwatch topics into your content, but ultimately we're still talking about Overwatch. A bad product made by people who don't care a bit about the player nor their content creators. It's time to diversify and look at other communities if you really want to make a living out of content creation. Overwatch is a sinking ship for everyone.

@aspottedfriend42895 ай бұрын
I don’t think overwatch is heavily monetized, I’ve played for 4 years without spending a dime and haven’t gotten any pop up ads in the game. Overwatch as a product is very good. We get a directors take I believe most weeks and get game designers takes often. Overwatch is not a sinking ship, it has a healthy player base, a respectable esport casters, and frequently getting patches that been making the game better(score board, dps passive, nerfs to overturned hero’s, amazing new heros)

@@aspottedfriend4289 The last characters(Mauga, Kiriko, Queen, Sojourn) were all behind a paywall if you wanted to be competitive, and curiously they were pretty broken and META. Venture is the first character who's different, I give you that. It was not gachapon-like, but the intentions are pretty clear when you put your META characters behind a paywall. When Mauga was released, I remember climbing up a lot just because the other Tank didn't have the battle pass. You can still have fun without paying a dime if you were casual, but competitive players had no choice.

@@lexbracho3252you can look at the past all you want, but the fact is that the monetization is getting less egrigious and the balance is arguably getting better. ow has had far from a glorious path (ow1 content drout, ow2 owl exclusivity, death of owl...) but today it's the most accessible it's ever been to new players, and can only grow back up. you're right to say that content creators basically starve themselves of money and visibility by choising ow over other, more popular and succesful games. but it's not a reason to discredit them for sticking to a game they like and not selling out!

i just want to know what the actions are that could actually be taken to fight for the scenes future. i understand the importance of fighting for our own future as creators, coaches, or players, but I hope that theres more that can be done. i have similar mixed, sometimes-hopeless feelings as you expressed in the video, but i often find myself thinking about ways to fight for the future of the scene as a whole, as opposed to just waiting (might be just copium though). a community league that can be promoted and monetized better than owcs? fighting for better lines of communication between individuals in the scene and devs/owcs organizers? becoming a trillionaire and buying the ip so i can do it myself? i don't know. great video as always, and im happy as always to see you fighting for the scene beside us(im a tiny tiktok creator but i have big plans).

I don't really understand what u are trying to announce here ? It's not really about overwatch, or even specific really. That's just life. If u want to freelance it's fine but yeah it's not going to be easy. Influencer is not a stable job, you have no qualifications which makes your job something super valuable. Yes wanting to become content creator is all about luck nothing new here. Otherwise everyone would be content creator. Because otherwise where is the downside? You don't need any diploma, have no boss, have your own hours. E-sport is not a stable scene and never has been. The income always in majority came from investor. It's not sustainable at the moment, for any game It's not Overwatch being difficult, or really not helping the e-sport scene

Nah. Consumers/fans arent winning either. This dripfeed of content is disgusting, to say that the game isnt dying due to the player count is just false. Naysayers have said its been dying for years, but this season is truly a come to moment as most players realize the game is not as fun as it was. Map design, changing the formula, the rotten balancing issues, the community, the predatory microtransactions, the failed PvE. No one is winning but the people who have issues with their money and those who have too much money they can spend on a silly little skin. F2P monetization is a plague on modern gaming.

@truetttiller27785 ай бұрын
People in this comment section who argue that overwatch as a whole is bad and that is why it is dying are completely misled. Overwatch as a game requires constant adaptation, and many players give up because they feel there should be a set way to play Overwatch. If those complaining in this comment section believe overwatch is an inherently bad product, just know that the refusal to change with the times is why you don't like the game. Commenters, stop acting like the game has done something wrong to make you dislike it, you only dislike the game because of you. And keep it up Kajor, you have what it takes, and competetive gaming is, in the grand scheme of things, still a young market, it will struggle, but you have found a good way to see through the lies and false claims that it is something not worth participating in. Because this scene, I believe, is worth the effort.
