In this documentary, Steve Humpries takes us into the dark underworld of child sexual abuse. Exploring previous cases, the documentary looks at how the law protects the children, what psychological consequences survivors of child sexual abuse experience - and how to help preventing child sexual abuse in the future.
Through interviews with investigators, survivors, experts on the area, and even previous offenders, this topical film is calling for action where legislation has failed, exploring alternative strategies for keeping kids safe from sexual predators.

They should have to wear a sign around their neck, and walk around in prison. Then let’s see how much they think that’s ok, grown men wouldn’t even want this. Or I wouldn’t think so, this saddens me so much. We’re now finally finding out, abt all of these HIGH level govt employees, and Royalty all around the world. May the Lord wrap His loving arms around these victims, and help them. I can’t even imagine, this is rly out of control. This is what Trump has been fighting for, abused children. I truly believe the Lord chose Trump, to take these ppl down. And down they shall go!!! God bless all of these victims, my heart goes out to all of them.

My grandpa who I used to idolize was a pedophile. He sexually assaulted me several times while I was clueless since I was too young and confused. The worst part is that I still remember the moments it happened. I later found out I wasn't the only one, my older sister faced the same thing and she tried her best to keep us away from him and protect us even when she was young herself. I'm glad both of us shared it and cried our heart out at last

My step grandpa did the the same thing to my sister and I and my boy cousins. My sister and I are the only ones who have spoke out and lost all our family for speaking the truth about what he did to us. My grandma knew the entire time and didn’t do anything about it. My boy cousin then continued to abuse me while growing up. I’m so sorry that you went through this as well I want you to know you are not alone and there is healing on the other side you are worth unconditional love you are worth being treated with respect you are not broken you are beautiful inside and out . My grandfather did the same. I was 11. My grandmother told me to never speak a word of what happened. My abusive mum tried to make me spend more time with my grandfather after she found out. I was made to feel like I was the one who had done something wrong. When I tried to tell the school, they refused to help me unless I dropped a name. Almost no-one in my family knows about what happened to me. Sometimes I wonder if I was the only one.

I think all women began experiencing this at some point in their early teens. It happened to me for the first time, when I was 14. A stranger, at least twice my age, sat across from me on a train and commented on my breasts. He wanted to touch them and asked if I wanted to come home with him. It's incredibly disgusting, and we were violated, but technically it's not paedophilia, since we had entered puberty.

@fazlullahhayat184 People have non-traumatic memories from their childhood as early as 2 years old, so if you add an extremely traumatic event (as SA certainly is) to said childhood, of course it's gonna be remembered, CSA is something that some survivors descibe as "it never leaves you". Although some children's brains block out that traumatic memory in order to protect their well-being, so some CSA survivors don't even know they went through it until decades later when the trauma resurfaces and it all comes back to their memory. As to your second question... I think it's quite obvious, no?

The same with me. Boys my age never paid attention to me so when I talked tobthese guys online, I felt good and heard. Unfortunately, I met up with a few of them. Before meeting these predators, I would brag to my friends and thought I was cool about how I have an 20-something year old "boyfriend." After I felt dirty and disgusting and for a very long time I was numbing that pain and thought I was worthless. I even tried unaliving myself a few times. It wasn't until I told someone what happened that my healing began. It wasn't my fault, I was a child and I was groomed from a very young age. I know that now.

Despite my experience, I fully agree with the sentiment that we need to understand the issue by studying the paedophiles directly in a scientific setting and work to address the problem as a society instead of using the lynching method. The war on drugs didn't work, the war on crime didn't work and the war on paedophiles isn't working. To the contrary it only drives them further underground and makes them harder to detect.

I agree. I was groomed online as a child and later as a teenager. It was horrific and it scares me to this day to think that images of me as a minor are still online somewhere, or on somebody's computer or hard drive. But even though that's the case, having this experience made me want to help all those people who are doing these things, so that future generations don't suffer the way I and many others did. Because these people.. They're extremely troubled people, they're humans who have a sort of extreme mental illness. Getting to know them personally, even as a teenager, I could see that they're somehow deeply mentally affected and genuinely need help, but can't get it. It's a really conflicting topic.

@@WildVee I share a similar story to you, as well as similar sentiments. I've read multiple open-source published research papers on research on these individuals to get an idea of why my groomer took advantage of me online. The more I've read the more I am convinced the way forwards is to, in spite of their attractions and actions, see them as humans and understand the causes of these attractions so that we can stop the issue at the root. In the most extreme of cases, of course it would be frugal to hand down a harsh sentence for the aim of protecting children in the community. But as well I see value in examining why these individuals offend so that we can examine the pathways that lead to such attractions whether it be untreated childhood trauma, simple bad luck in brain chemistry etc. Ironically in my opinion and experience as a victim myself, treating this wide range of offenders as wholesale irredeemable monsters who do not deserve understanding even if for research does more harm than good.

I find the whole thing vile myself and I'm a survivor as well but I do believe long term therapy can reduce the number of victims. I tell my friend who has a 6 yr old to stop posting so many photos of her child on Facebook. Birthdays and petting zoo photos of your kids once in a while is fine, but my friend posts photos of her child in the bathtub, swimsuits, etc. And I know it's meant to be innocent but a sicko can steal those photos for personal gain... ciaran perry Sexuality is a descriptor for what kind of person you are interested in and is often based on gender (except for asexual). Fetish however is when the sexual attraction is solely based on someone fulfilling certain criteria and is detached from romance. Since the attraction to the child ends as the child grows older it is clearly not based on the person but the fact that it is a child, therefore it is a fetish.

I hate statements like this. They're 100% emotion with no consideration for what's actually best for kids. If they can be reformed safely, and pushing treatment and rehabilitation could cause more people to seek clinical help before harming a child, and lead to less children being harmed, then it wouldn't be unreasonable at all. Some evidence points to that being the case, and if it is then I'd be all for the policy that leads to less children being killed.

This was heart breaking to watch, and yet I’m so very glad to see this (beginning) shift to listen to people who experience sexual attraction to children. When I worked in a hospital many years ago, I met a person who checked himself in because he was so concerned that he would not be able to maintain his sworn celibacy; he had “always” been attracted to children and never acted upon this. He was in his 50’s and had been single his whole life. He was going through major life stressors (just as described in the documentary, this can increase the risk of harming a child). It was through talking with him - listening to his experiences - that I came to develop so much compassion for people who truly do not want to engage sexually with (ie: abuse, assault) children, and how hard it is for them to find any safe place to talk about their own confusion and struggles.

Many were abused as children. It’s a vicious cycle. As a survivor, I’ve never wanted to abuse a child. It took me years of counseling to have a somewhat normal life. I am over 50 yrs old and can’t sleep in a dark room. Monsters are real. At age 23 due to internal injuries a complete hysterectomy was done. My abuse started at age 2 ? And stopped at age 12.

When Dr. Goode talks about the "spectrum" including people who are mainly attracted to adults but CAPABLE of attraction to children --this is something I have always suspected to be the case, though I'm not happy to have it affirmed. How scary it must be to be think yourself 'normal' but finding yourself occasionally aroused by little kids.

People, I know this subject matter is sickening and hard to listen to and think about, but if you don't you continue being part of the problem. Please don't look the other way. If you can bring yourself to sit though just one paedophile themed documentary it should absolutely be this one. This one is truly useful and educational. Consider that you being uncomfortable and sickened for an hour or so whilst getting useful information is far less hurtful than a little child getting SAed and destroyed for life. Educate yourself, watch this documentary and try your absolute best to actually listen to its message, and you may come to make a difference that will save countless children in future generations. Maybe even your own children.

I was 6 when it all started and it kept going on for 2 years. I was abused by my brother who is 6 years older than me. I didn't know that it wasn't right!! he convinced me that it's just a game that nobody should know about. I blamed myself for many years after that. 16 years later, and I still don't know if I can forgive him. He went on with his life. I keep pretending that nothing has happened, but no one can understand how this can change a child's life forever. now I get ANXIOUS whenever I see him playing with my 5 years old niece. I know that he was a child/teenager too. But I still can't fully trust him being alone around a child. This is the first time that I have ever talked about this openly, and I feel kind of relieved. I've been abused myself. And it destroyed my life. Still I believe that we should research and find a way to "help" people with pedophile tendencies. Being sexually attracted to woman doesn't make you a rapist either. Not every pedophile must necessarily act on their feelings. Not every person without a sexual partner goes out and abuses someone. If we give them the choice of treatment it can only help. I doubt it will increase the problem. so why not try?

I was sexually abused through my childhood. I have Bipolar, Complex PTSD, anxiety disorder, psychosis flashbacks of him, bulimia and binge eating disorder. I make myself gain weight because I don’t want men to find me attractive so I use food as a way to protect myself (Please no one be offended by that, I am in no way saying people who are bigger aren’t attractive, it’s just my illogical thinking) I’m also covered in deep self harm scars. I came forward to stop my uncle when I was 18 and I went to the police and I had a breakdown going through it all, I’ve been in and out of psychiatric hospitals but I’ve been free from self harm and being sectioned for a year. I’m very proud of myself because I was broken for so long and even now every single day is a struggle and I am 25 now. I’ve tried to understand how anyone could do this to a child. But and personally I think there is a big difference between the sadistic smug family member that did it to me and a person who has these urges and is disgusted with themselves and does everything not to act on it.

It seems to be a mix of 1000's of years of biology where humans instinctively have to breed and dominance. Pedophiles are adults who have a strong sexual urge to be in control over someone they know can't easily fight back. Many pedos who were abused as children crave the control they never had as children. So they know better than anyone that children are the easiest targets. Just a theory though.

Then you look at what you will do to that child and that family and yourself and you don’t do it... they have groups for pedophiles to go to.....get help before you act... and then control yourself.

It was really frustrating when they kept saying "men" when referring to abusers. Not only do women also abuse children but they go a lot less unreported. It's another stigma and stereotype that needs to be squashed. So many children could be saved if we not only prevent the actions with therapy but also acknowledge the different types of abusers - including women.

Note that one of the people who used the term “men” has dedicated her life to research about pedophiles. And that women is understanding of their problem. She’s not trying to demonize all men but the people with these problems are overwhelmingly male.

@@dreamtounite3139 they exist but there are very few. Female predators usually are not attracted to children for their whole lives. They are opportunistic offenders. That’s why most of the cases we hear of are student teacher events.

kinda understandable that not many women are discovered as pedos cause i dont know what these others were thinking but it was stupid and disgusting on their part to direct message children and immediately interact with them online,as for the cases of women as pedos im not saying there arent any online but those that are mostly caught having sexual thoughts about minors are those women who either has contact or close relationship with the victim

Pedophiles don't deserve a second chance. There is no cure for them. They need to be locked up for life, or sent far away to live on an island, nowhere near children. Abuse stays with the abused for life, they deserve peace knowing abusers once caught are never set free!

I was abused for multiple years as a 3 year old in Kindergarden. I repressed the memories for years but had to live with the psychological damage before the memories reserficed and ever since. Afterwards I had sever bladder infections and threw up multiple times a day for years due to reliving memories and the physical feeling of what was shoved down my throat, I still have those. I also lived with the feeling of having to please everyone, to never complain, to always do exactly as I was told by everyone and not to attract any attention because I was taught that otherwise "the worst" would happen to me and my mother. I believed we were under constant surveillance way into my adulthood and that I had to hide this big secret, that I did something wrong and if it came out I and my mother would be punished and "the worst" whatever that was to be would accur. I have been reliving memories, images, physical feelings , smells and tastes daily and every time I close my eyes for 25 years now. I wake up screaming and still can't sleep for more than 2 hours at a time. It was a few years of pleasure for him and a lifetime of trauma for me.

is there some kind of medication or therapy that could help you? logically there's no reason the body should be reliving things that are very old and that are not current dangers

@@Hshjshshjsj72727 My psychologist said it is normal that once there is a period of "rest" the body will bring up past trauma that hasn't been processed yet. In acute danger you run on adrenaline and don't have time to process so it is pushed back "for later" to survive. Unfortunately it does resurface at some point.

My mother met my step-father when I was 3. By the age of 10 I had already been through years of physical and sexual abuse. The sexual only stopped at when my mother walked in and witnessed it when I was 10. He was only asked to leave for 2wks before returning and I was blamed by him and until she died, my mother also, which hurt far worse than anything. After 2yrs of looking across the breakfast table at a man who had done so much damage, my mother decided she’d had finally had her fill of him and only then turned him in. He was to serve time in prison until I was 18 however, I served a life long sentence. These men cannot be cured. they just can’t. There were treatments put in place for him however he reoffended. That should never be allowed to happen. I’ve done my time and he should’ve been made to do the same.

Cristina Richart I totally agree. That’s always been the biggest betrayal of for me too and was a huge wall between my mom too all the way up to her passing. They just can’t comprehend their guilt I guess. Maybe it’s because if they did look at it in truth, the huge amount of shame for what they had done to their own child would be too great. Idk, it’s one of those things We can’t really understand because everyone do t think like that.

It happened to me, the earliest memory 3yrs old, and ongoing until I was 13 and was placed in foster care. It was perpetrated by my stepfather. And sometimes his army buddies. And his brother. The physical acts stopped when I was removed from the home, but the after shocks have continued throughout my entire lifetime, and I am 52 yrs old now. It impacted everything. It is still a process of healing to this day. He died 6 yrs ago and I've made peace, and I didn't say goodbye and never regret it. Healing took grit and perseverance...3 yrs of 3 days a week therapy. I am much better after it all, and still struggle with PTSD triggered days. I know how to handle them today, but all the years that I didn't caused a lot of other challenges in my life. Sexual abuse is a sort of lifetime journey.
