It’s like there’s a “golden zone” where you get the “timing” just right and it’s guaranteed to reach your player. 100% agree with this video. The close range passes on the edge of the box should be the MOST common ones that work. Clever little snap passes into gaps. FIFA’s always had this thing with overhit through balls though, probably because the keepers suck ass so they try to “balance” the game with shocking through balls

This was a relief to watch. This game has been driving me mad as I have always relied on through balls in Fifa and generally ignored doing skill moves and the passes I wait for and try and time are always overhit or slight off in direction. I'm an Arsenal fan, and that's the kind of football I grew up with, trying to essentially walk the ball in. I've been forced to learn more skill moves and try not to lunge into tackles or intercepts as they aren't rewarded in this game. So many rebounds and missed tackles, players instead lunging over the ball. So frustrating, keep up the content.

I hate these overhit passes so much, I've tried to force myself to approach passing in the final third a bit differently in an attempt to decrease the number of times it happens. For now I use short passes instead of through balls in the final third if either of the following are true: 1) The pass recipient is running directly toward goal with no covering defender ahead of them. 2) The player making the pass is facing toward the goal and will be making a pass that has an angle less than ~45° As far as I'm concerned the short pass bind does not behave the same way in the final third as it does in the rest of the pitch, it becomes what I would label "contextual short pass" and will become a perfect through ball if appropriate, leading to easy scoring opportunities. The through ball becomes "Pass to GK/Touchline" if used in even slightly the wrong circumstance despite looking like the easiest through ball of anyone's life.

We were just talking about how the through balls don't seem to work like they did in FIFA 17/18. I picked up FIFA 19, it felt terrible so I skipped 20 and came back to 21 and now it feels worse. I play CDM or CB who tracks runs, have an advantage because I see the pass coming but the attackers just run through me and lock to the ball every time regardless of what I do! The only thing that works is to tackle the runner and get a red, if I don't the attacker just locks onto the ball. Any through ball I give gets overhit or underhit and the directional controls are terrible, but if I just hit a normal pass which I poorly judge that just makes it through and we score.

In my experiance, bad passes are now included in the scripting. If i play a really good game, leading like 3-0 half time, my passes will instantly get so bad and makes total non-sense sometimes.. Most obvious passes becomes a mess, just to avoid me getting more goals. TIP: The "triangle" or "Y" through ball does not work in the final third BUT the "double triangle" or "double Y" does work in the final third. I had this same issue until I started doing the "double" variation. All of your examples that don't work, WILL WORK when you do the "double" variation. It's all muscle memory.

@Stallion: I see one solution. Let me know what you think. They could introduce an option called competitive mode in every game mode (Especially Futchamps and rivals). If this mode is switched on then there should only be minimum AI assistance. For instance, defensive midfielders that are not selected by the player will not track the runs or other players etc. The game must not assist crappy players with last minute changes in pass direction which makes it literally impossible for even the best defenders in the world to defend. If the player decided to pass in the direction that the defending player has managed to mark manually then he deserves to win the ball back and the same concept of less AI assistance must be applied in all the other gameplay parts of the game.

I reduced the game speed from fast to normal. That solved the overhitting though balls issue. Fifa does something weird with fast game speed. Passes feel different and even fatigue is much lesser.

While I agree that passing in this years game does leave alot of be desired, primarily issues with the consistency of power and the over the top through ball, alot of what you were showing here can be fixed by just using a normal pass rather using through ball as your final ball into the box, 9/10 the pass will stick. Also just start using offside trap on tactics to stop that nerd through ball, they've ruined the pressuring system so this or constantly dropping back with good shape to your defence are the only sure ways to stop the quick lads. It only works if you pass to mbappe or neymar, the game magically adjusts perfectly for them. You intercept a pass going to mbappe, dribble away and your players laces come undone, he gets an injury and falls to the floor

The problem is that each part of the pitch has different accuracy sliders that EA can adjust instead of like in PES where its all depending on passing stat. Which is why through passes barely work close to goal. its what u get when u use the fifa99 engine in 2020

I’ve noticed this problem a lot. My theory is the AI controlled receiving player doesn’t move the way they should to receive the ball. It’s frustrating because when you make the pass the game doesn’t let you control the receiving player very much which means you don’t get rewarded for playing correctly but instead have to play badly to profit from the broken coding. I’m able to win by huge margins against the cpu by playing exploiting the weaknesses of the game rather than by playing properly.
