Great video. Thank you. I recently found a pair of AP2s in a bargain bin and in my second run with them set a new 21.1km PB. In my opinion, the Rods 1.0 provided a more aggressive fast ride, but with a lot less stability than the pretzel unit. AP3 = best marathon shoe, as it is more forgiving when your form slides
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 13 күн бұрын
The Energy Rod 1.0 was always problematic from me. It could feel like the shoe was folding in half sometimes. I also found the actual rods made themselves more apparent under your foot and you’d feel them more often. I was never a huge fan of them. With Energy Rods 2.0 I’ve never had any of those issues, or any issues at all. For my feet they are a much better system across the board on the Boston 12, Takumi Sen 10 and Adios Pro 3, which I find all quite aggressive respectively when needed…

I have a question I want to get Adios Pro 3 for my next race in sep, but I’m hesitant on size I’m usually 9.5 us but with AP3 I feel it to big on the toe box and the sides, but the 9us I feel it to tight, any recommendations on this? I also have Boston 12 and it’s a size 9 and fits perfect. Thanks for your comments and great content!
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 12 күн бұрын
The AP3 should have a race for and be tighter than a trainer… however the eyelet chat in can be problematic, especially the lower two eyelet loops… so you want to make sure they are giving the top of your foot too much pressure. I wear the same size, US men’s 9, across the AP3, B12, A9… I’d always got smaller tighter for a race shoe, as long as you don’t have extra pressure points. The thing about the AP3 upper is that it won’t stretch… at all. But the shoe overall does loosen and “give” once LSP breaks in a bit.

Cool stuff! Thank you. Btw, you mentioned you supinate. I do too! Do you have a video on how you fixed it? I saw a video that it's not a shoe issue but can be fix through habit (?). Curious how you're managing it if you still do. My pinky bone hurts a lot after a long run or fast pace short run, I recover more than 24hrs (even after doing ice bath on my foot) thus making me skip some days. Planning to get NB1080.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 13 күн бұрын
I don’t over-supinate and find it fairly natural to land on the outer edge of your foot, as long as it roles inward (that is the natural biomechanical movement). The only time it ever was an issue for me was years ago when I was learning how to forefoot strike (from heel striking). It took alot of Nike strengthening to not let it get out of hand. I also trail run quite a bit. Nothing keep your ankles strong and your proprioceptive feedback in tune than technical trails.

I think the rumors of poor durability with the original Pro 4 makes complete sense after the release of the Pro Evo 1. It’s one thing to buy a super limited $400 Pro Evo 1 that only lasts one race, but if the mass marketed new Pro 4 started to breakdown sooner than the Pro 3 and other competitors, there would be a lot of customer backlash.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 13 күн бұрын
Based on the photos they released of the first protos, that I have in this video, my guess is that they were breaking rods, tearing holes in the uppers and having issues with outsole durability. None of which is good for a consumer race shoe… especially coming off of the AP3 which is a bit of a tank when it comes to durability.

I started watching your content a few weeks ago and just wanted to say what an amazing channel this is. The holistic approach you take when discussing running shoes is a cut above anything else I’ve seen on KZbin. One query/question on the Pro Evo’s midsole foam. I have heard you mention a few times that it is PEBA based. Is that known for certain? I thought there was virtually no information from Adidas on what it is. I think one of the major selling points from Adidas’ perspective is that the Lightstrike Pro in the regular Adios Pro line isn’t PEBA. The fact that they went in a different direction with TPEE is to be commended, and frankly I prefer it to PEBA. I’d be disappointed if they joined their rivals in using a PEBA variant in their performance shoes. In a way it would feel like a step backwards for the brand.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 12 күн бұрын
I did a video on their PEBA foam and how we know. Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 Revisited kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2TQaHZqrZ2NbNU It’s clean PEBA has won, at least for this generation. I do agree with you that part of the appeal of Adidas is LSP being non PEBA. I’m curious how they will manage the transition or having the two materials side-by-side. It’s why the AP4 is so interesting as I think it has both (we shall see when we get official info). Thank you for the kind words on the channel! 🙏🏻

@@SagasuRunning thanks for the reply and video link. I bet you were delighted to have had that conversation! The Pro and Takumi Sen lines are very popular in my club because they feel like they go on forever. I think the Pro 3 is more popular now than ever, partly in my opinion because people have come to realise that the shoe can be trusted to perform near its best for multiple races. The value for money factor is a big deal for the everyday runner and I do believe is a differentiating factor for Adidas’ performance shoes. Maybe Adidas have got this “all worked out”. Part of it might be my own disbelief that any brand can actually do better than Nike with a PEBA compound… but maybe we are already witnessing this occur in the mass market with Asics’ new Metaspeed offerings.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 11 күн бұрын
Definitely, the AP3 is great value for money. The shoe is (nearly) indestructible. I’m also curious how much Adidas favorites this in with the AP4. I agree, it’s a big decider for a lot of runners. ZoomX has been the gold standard PEBA… but other brands are going their own direction now. Not just trying to make their own ZoomX, instead engineer a PEBA unique to their tech stack. The feel of the foam in the Evo 1 is very different than LSP or ZoomX, but much closer to ZoomX than what Asics has. FFTurbo+ from Asics is good, very good, but what is making the new Metaspeeds so fast is a combo of the new (better) foam and the geometry. I’m having quite a bit of success right now with the Edge Paris in the Threshold running I have been doing.

Im new to Adidas running shoes. And after two years of Nike and saucony, I like what adidas shoes are doing to the body while running. I feel more in control of the pace and more calm than in Nike or saucony. I get more groundfeel with adidas and my body is not that stressed. It first feels less exiting but when I’m on a serious workout I feel that it saves Cns energy and I can push longer. On 1k reps on the track I started strong and could just hold the effort on a Nike streakfly. After some reps energy went down. Compared a adios 8 I could hold the pace consistently for more reps with a controlled feeling. But I had lots of problems to find the right size. At the end I’m exactly in adidas recommendation. But on the internet and shop everyone tells you to size up in some adidas shoes like adios pro 3. I cannot say this.

Adidas sizing has really changed in the past 2-3 years. The old recommendation of size up half a size (mostly due to width, not length) doesn’t apply anymore. The Adios Pro 3 is fantastic, especially after you break in the foam a bit. But it is definitively a full marathon shoe, and therefore not directly comparable with the vaporfly in my opinion but more so the alphafly. Lightstrike Pro is amazing, but the energy rods break too easily. Adidas should widen the rods in my opinion to make them stronger, if they refuse to go for an actual plate. I am really excited to try the Pro Evo C!

A version of the Takumi Sen 10 upper on a midsole platform that is based on the Adios Pro 3 with the tweaked geometry of the Adios Pro Evo 1 would be pretty good. I think the Adios Pro 4 needs to reduce the weight though somewhere. The AP3 is a solid workmanlike shoe with extremely good durability but the weight is the weakness. I am also looking forward to Adios Pro 4 and see how I might like them after never really enjoyed the Pro 3 as I tend to prefer the “sink-in” feeling of the Zoom X as you described. After our interactions with the automobile analogy in your previous video. I think I found a category of car that might be closer to what Evo 1 meant to be. Ferrari has a line of car which they only offer to their VVIP customers. I believe they are know as Fxx series. These cars I believe are not street legal cars and are meant for track days only. These cars can be owned but they are being kept with Ferrari. Ferrari can go a bit extreme with the modification. When these cars are being driven on the track, they get feedbacks from a different group of “test drivers” (a.k.a. customers) and see how they might be developed for future super car developments.

How much mileage can be put on pro 3 like when should we retire this shoe ?
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 13 күн бұрын
They are kind of tanks. I’ve seen people putting hundreds of miles… the outsole wears out before the midsole in most cases on the AP3.

When I had a pair it was good for racing for about 200 miles then became a workout shoe until about 400 miles when I moved on to a different shoe

I have similarly grown to like the Adios Pro 3 and got 229 miles on my pair now although it is a shoe have tended to use on and off these past 2 years and even sometimes just for easyish runs as well as faster ones. Kind of let down by a sloppy upper that took many runs before getting a lockdown OK but otherwise is holding up very well. It is just a bit heavier in my UK 13.5/US 14 to be a contender for any of my races however. Hopefully v4 will address both issues but if there is a "consumer" Evo one will it end up like the other Pro 4 (Endorphin) and be that shoe you think I don't really need/want given I already have the Elite one so I never got that Pro 4.

I can’t imagine how your foot comfortably fits in the AP3, it’s so wide. I remember the AP1 was narrow though, classic Adidas fit. Did you ever run in that? I remember you have the AP2 though. Good analogy on the Endorphin Pro/Elite… I can see them slinging hair like that. I’ll be curious how it plays out for them. I’m also curious which should their Elites will pick and why.
@TimGrose
@TimGrose 13 күн бұрын
@@SagasuRunning Fortunately after some lace pulling, the AP3 feels a lot "narrower" than say an Ultrafly, Alphafly and of course Rebel v4. I had the AP1 and AP2 but only a size down in a US 13 as that's the biggest they did. Both perhaps ran a fraction "long" so I could at least get a feel for them. Not worn the AP1 since pulled my hamstring on the treadmill one time although don't think was really shoe related. Would have liked to have tried the AP2 in my "TTS" as I think I slightly preferred that one over the AP3 - perhaps as the lockdown felt better laterally although it ought to being smaller in length and of course all shoes get wider as they get longer.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 13 күн бұрын
@TimGrose I see. Interesting. I wouldn’t think the AP3 gave a good fit. Even with the socks I found they give me pain free running in them the fit isn’t ideal… it’s not awful… but far from ideal.

The AP3 is my favorite “plated” shoe ever. I’m excited for the release of the 4, but I’m stocked up on the 3. For me, it’s been an extremely versatile shoe. As many positive reviews you see for all the Adizero line even with the finicky uppers, imagine how well they’d be perceived if adidas got that dialed in even just a little better.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 13 күн бұрын
It seems the 2024 Adizero line has the uppers sorted, at least far beyond what Adidas had before. Even the TS10 upper is excellent!

I'd recommend the Prime X2 Strung for an even better running experience. Yes it's slightly more weight, but it's more than made up for by the much higher stack, carbon plates, and comfortable upper. It sits right in the middle of Pro 3 and the Evo, in terms of how premium and well-equipped it is. The consumer Adizero line would go (from lowest stack to highest): Takumi Sen --> Pro --> Prime X. The Evo is in the elite line.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 13 күн бұрын
But, as I have said many times on the channel, the Prime X isn’t a race shoe. It’s a development platform for Adidas to explore upper and cushioning technologies. As a concept shoe it’s interesting… but it’s also not the style of shoe I enjoy. That being said… if we see a PX3 I might finally cover it given just how much tech Adidas is exploring in it…

As someone who has gotten on really well with the PXS, I couldn’t help wonder how that does/does not correlate to the Pro 3. I wasn’t a fan of the Pro 2 - just wasn’t comfortable to me and felt a bit harsh in later miles. I have hesitated to try the 3, but am reconsidering based on my enjoyment of the PXS. Thoughts?
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 12 күн бұрын
The PXS is not a race shoe. It’s a volume trainer. Adidas has never intended it to be used for racing. I know some do use it for that but that was not the design intent. I’d say give the AP3 a try, especially if you can find a deal on it. It’s much more substantial than the AP2 was and sits somewhere between the AP2 and PX in feel.

Ah, the original Celermesh upper! I agree, it was great. It was also the same upper material used on the Adizero Pro. It was definitely or the same era as Vaporweave from Nike, both excellent.

Consistent informative reviews. New releases to be dropped in conjunction with Paris Olympics 🤔

I don’t think so. The Evo 1 will be what is on the feet of Adidas Olympic Marathoners (I have seen leaked gold color-ways too). I’d expect everything to be announced in the run up to Berlin. Around the same time the Evo 1 came out last year. Olympic years are odd though so you never know.

I'm just sad that Adidas is slowly killing the normal Adizero Adios line in most countries. The last Adios I have used w as s the Adios 7 and they don't plan to bring either the 8th or the 9th version to South America. Instead they want the public here to get the Adizero SL instead. It launched early in here and later in USA for example. I had the Adidas Adizero SL and it was the worst fast running shoes I ever had from Adidas. Bad grio, super bad upper ( no longer snug in my size), extremely bad comfort from the middlesole and much less bounce and nimble vs. The Adios 6 or 7. The new SL 2 is coming soon and most problems should be resolved, but not the Continental grip for toe off greatness ! I'm mad with Adidas in 2024 ! If messing with the Adios was not enough, they did not launch a new Ultraboost yet and it seems that the SolarGlide line is also dead. I much preferred the SolarGlide line vs Gel-Nimbus, Invincible, Wave Sky ,etc. If I coukd only pick one. Give us the SolarGlide 7 with Light Boost , Adidas ! Most durable running shoes in the world !

I’ve head this that the Adios is no longer available in SA. That’s an odd choice by Adidas. I struggle with shoe releases here in Taiwan, but Adidas is pretty good about putting everything out here (especially though we don’t get Terrex at all). We also got the SL here early. Hopefully the same is true with the SL2. I don’t pay any attention the the boost lines from Adidas. I do know that they seem to be trying to get more people into the updated Supernova series, especially with the new max stack model coming out.

I swing back and forth ever few years. For 2024 I’m definitely in a heavy Adidas swing. Their 2024 lineup is outstanding. But my heart will always be Peg/Vaporfly at some level…. But SL/Adios Pro is pretty close at this point.

I'd imagine the Evo C (if it is indeed "consumer") has a midsole that's formed in molds rather than machined like the Evo-1 I also have that non died colorway of the Pro-3, I am amazed by how easy it is to clean that shoe.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 13 күн бұрын
Agree on the moods PEBA midsole. That’s the only way they can scale it for a real consumer release. The thing about the Celermesh 2.0 upper is that even if it was rough on your foot it cleans very easily… and stays very clean.
