Has anyone thought what this massive influx of non native people's will do to tourism (a big part of European economy)? I mean, why do people travel? Why do they plan out European vacations? Every country in the world has their own indigenous people, history, culture, architecture, social interactions etc etc etc. People from other countries plan out extensive vacations with full itineraries of experiencing the sites, sounds, foods and culture of a nation different than theirs. If European countries begin to lose their culture and unique histories, if architecture begins to be demolished or replaced with mosques or other such things, what will this do to the tourism industry in Europe? I legitimately want to know, I'm an immigrant in my country, so I'm not trying to be anti-immigration. Just asking about the future.

You are totally right. I really love to spend vacations in Germany and France, only because they have such great cultures, architecture, cuisines and people. But muslims often spoil the impression. Moreover, now it is not safe to travel there because of these migrants. I'm not going to visit Germany, until German politicians stop accepting islamists into the country. I'm from Finland myself.

Please be very spektical of the translations. Apparently the NY Times cannot find a qualified German speaker? One of the marchers says "wir werden hier mittlerweile selber ausgegrenzt". This means "by now, we (the natives) are the ones being marginalized". It does not mean "we are already in the minority".

Some Germans told me that they care about immigrants and accept all of them because of their bad Nazi heritage. I am a Russian and I believe that German culture is great. There is no need to destroy Germany due to national pardon feeling and excessive responsibility for all countries and all people. Liberalism is important yet there are objective prerequisites that immigrants have to accept if they want to live in a new country.

For those who don`t know : Dresden is in east Germany and hardly any people from Arabic or Turkish countries have ever lived there (used to be DDR ) People in eastern German countries are not used to foreign faces, hardly ever talked to them or have them as work collegues. So they just don`t know and act out of stupidity..maybe they have been to visit Berlin or Hamburg and freak out. Apart from that they are just simple, poor minded people who are afraid of what they don`t know. Truth is that you would never advice a foreign looking person to travel far into eatern Germany / Berlin because it might get dangerous. It is very unfair to place asylum seekers in Eastern German cities because it IS dangerous for them there..outside the refugee homers they can sometimes visit the supermarkets only with police protection. Very very sad for Germany!

there are demonstrations in a few other cities - but most of it already blew over. while some of the core of this movement were actually right winged nuts - the majority of their followers just seemed to have participated for other reasons or for a general unhappiness with the current state of German politics.

Well this is mostly meant for turkish people in Germany; The problem is that for example in my home townthere are 50% of turkish emigrants as well as 50% Germans. this wouldn`t be that much of a Problem if our politicians would at least admit it, but they don`t, and this is causing the outrage. But the Chance of this becomming a threadt to your turkish friends is very very low because only 10% of the pegida members are said to be potentially harmfull, and since pegida and their "partners" only beeing sucsesful in saxonia it is really unlikely that anyone of your friends will get harmed.

So much hate here. These people are refugees and they need help because of the war. On the other side USA is taken 15.000, Spain 15.000, France 20.000 and Germany has no Limit. The forecast was 800.000 until last week. The new number for refugees 2015 in Germany is raised to 1.500.000. Yes 1.5 Million people. The heart is wide open, but we have to find a better way to devide these people between countries and we must definitly stop Isis!
