I moved from 0 Gauge to TT120 quite recently but none of my 0 Gauge locos were anywhere near the excellent quality and detail of this model. So I splashed out for one and it now sits on my mantlepiece. It really is a superb model and I am totally delighted with it. I must say the packaging is second to none as it arrived here in France safe and sound. Ever so pleased I managed to get one as they seem to be selling very well. Very good informative review as always by Jenny

I recieved my 45337 late last week, but as I was away at Model Rail Scotland I had to wait to have a proper look over it. I am extremely impressed! A fantastic locomotive all round. I have found almost no faults at all. There is a very tiny little bit of a glue mark (white misting around one of the steps on the curved running plate at the front) I'm being VERY VERY picky as it's only noticed with very close inspection though. With the amount of parts on the loco that this very slight blemish is the only part I can find any kind of blemish is a testament to the attention to detail and quality of this loco. The running of the loco is also superb, as is the sound profile. I don't believe the hatch on the cab is posable, it MAY be but I would rather not force it. Over all I'd give this model a 9.999 out of 10.... only because I can't actually fit on the foot plate and steam it for real 😂

Mine has the same, very minor defect, but like you am well impressed. Now I just need a layout to run her on...

What an amazing model that is. Would look great running around a big garden layout with a lengthy train behind it ☺ 👍 🚂

I don't model O Guage. But I'm tempted to purchase one anyway, as it really is a thing of beauty. Excellent review, Jenny.

What a fantastic model! They haven't missed much at all. The Black 5's have always been a favorite of mine and to see it in O Gauge and Scale is satisfying. I didn't notice drivers seats but I may have missed them if they're in the detail pack. It's quite the piece for showing, just the build quality and production materials are so re-assuring and to hear that a British-Built motor and gearbox are involved does make the soul rise a bit in these times. Great review Jenny, thank you.

1) I love the locomotive you showed us. Sadly, the only 0 gauge I have is a small Mamod train set that runs on live steam. 2) Your library is a gorgeous room!!

Hi Jenny, I just saw your video on the Black Five O gauge. I got one on order in the next batch. Only seen in the glass case at Ellis Clark, this video has done this justice hats off to Ellis Clark. I have a full rake of mark 1 coaches to go on this. The Black Five is the last steam engine I rode on leaving Lytham for Blackpool. Keep up the good videos. Hope to see you at Keighley.

Gorgeous. Though as always we need someone to come up with a truly realistic steam/smoke unit. One day maybe …

This loco has a Helical gearbox. I can name three model builders who can build to this standard or better: Nick Dunhill, Lee Marsh and Jeremy Suter. There are probably several others . The most revered 0 gauge loco builder was Tony Reynelds who passed away a year or two ago.

A really magnificent model. The only thing I can see missing is the front bang plate behind the screw coupling. Other than that nothing short of a miracle in O guage.

Yes very nice model, does perform very well. But it not free from faults I personally know of at least THREE that turned out to be faulty. Morel to story, make sure its been tested. NB the guys at Ellis Clark's are good to deal with.

Lovely model, I have only one quibble with it: with the coupling rods bottom centre the return cranks should be leaning forward on both sides of the engine at least 5 degrees towards the front of ghe engine. The fixed head lamp on the front is a nono for me. How are you going to have the correct headcode for say an express passenger train or a number one speed fully fitted express goods train????? At least the smoke box door hinges are correctly horizontal, a detail one or two professional model builders can't always get right.

This is amazing model, however the rear coupling rods don't look quite prototypical to me!

I agree, the forked joint has been simplified to a joggled joint.

The only issue with the fixed lamp on the smokebox is that it would be incorrect for a loco hauling an express train (for example).

One academic question, as it is the wrong scale and price for me - but as the loco will free-wheel, will it 'run away' on a down-slope?
@peterheath90026 ай бұрын
What gauge is this loco? There is a promise from Hornby that they are to produce 'oo' gauge black fives in all variations! Still waiting for those to appear. Have you any information on these?

As previous mentioned the safety valves are CASTING, I also think that you are a little bit out of your depth/league on ‘O’ gauge models. There are several suppliers and you can pay up to three thousand pounds + for sound fitted Brittania’s or Princess Royal’s.
