Hi Foodies, this episode marks the beginning of our Tokyo Food Adventure Series & we're starting it with Wei Loon's favourite ramen spot, Nakiryu! Hope you've eaten cause you're about to get REAL HUNGRY~ 😜 In the spirit of keeping us on our toes & improving our vlogs further, here are our thoughts on the technical aspect of this vlog:- We faced quite a few restrictions while filming this episode, mainly due to the culture in Japan where people eat ramen quickly & in silence. Hence we had to film it relatively quickly & also speak a lot softer so as not to disturb the other patrons enjoying their ramen. This caused the quality of our voice recording in the ramen shops to be less than ideal 😳 The relatively noticeable music in Nakiryu also added a spanner in the works & despite our valiant efforts to suppress it there's still music in the back ground. Other than that we felt we've done relatively well on close ups and footage, music seems to work rather decently with such a punchy bowl of ramen. We hope you'll enjoy this vlog! In conclusion, we need better skill & experience when it comes to filming ramen-ya as the time is very, very limited & we can't talk too loudly. We will take note of this in our future series & work on improving it further 😉

Just returned from Tokyo last night and I was able to go to Nakiryu yesterday before my flight. I arrived at around 9:35am and had to wait until about 11:50am to be seated. I had the Tantanmen and it was excellent! I watched your review this morning and it is spot on! Looking forward to checking out some of your other reviews so I can get some more ideas for my next international trip! Keep up the great work! 👍🏽

Hi Wei Loon and Quet, my husband and I just came back from Tokyo (mainly food trip) and we visited Nakiryu! We ordered the tantan men and the tantan tsukemen, with chashu pork and spicy dumplings (those side dishes are nice)... and we personally love the tsukemen version more as the broth has less peanuty taste but very rich in flavor. The waiter had to warn us that the tsukemen noodles are served cold which we expected already but I guess many people didn't know about that. Anyway... It was a Wednesday in early May, at 10:20am when we arrived, there were 9 people in front of us. Luckily, we manage to go in after the 11am opening hour as we are the last from the first batch of the day. There are a total of 12 seats inside. The other couple just behind us or the next batch... we timed, they needed to wait for another 50mins! If anyone is reading this comment: Do remember to bring an umbrella or at least wear a cap because in the morning to early noon, on a sunny day... the sun will hit directly at the queue line if you are the 5th person onwards. Nakiryu does provide umbrellas but may not be enough if queue is long. Overall for us, we think it is worth to queue if the waiting time is 1 hour or lesser (we queued about 40mins and another 10mins to wait for the rest in front to order at the ordering machine). Otherwise and just my personal taste, I am not a huge fan of the tantan soup as the peanut taste was too overwhelming for me... I'd try their other non-tantan ramen next time. Anyway, keep up the good work WL and Quet, will keep watching your channel! - From Aarin (Malaysia)

Hello Aarin 👋, welcome home ☺️. Thanks for sharing your experience here! Tsukemen definitely sounds interesting, if we’re not mistaken it’s a new dish, we’ll have to try it out in our future trip 🤤 As for the Tantanmen having too strong a nutty taste it could be due to the inconsistency of their sesame paste which happens at times, sometimes it’s too concentrated & sometimes it’s a tad light 🥲 Hope you’ve enjoyed your food trip in Tokyo! Makes us yearn to visit Tokyo again 🤣

@@TheGourmetPlate Ahh I see, was thinking since it's a Michelin Star place, there shouldn't be so much inconsistency. 😅 Maybe I had too high hope, haha. But I still thoroughly enjoyed the experience from the queue (lucky it wasn't that long for us) to the other tasty food and comfortable spacious table seat. Yeah, do try their tsukemen and I hope you both can share your opinions on that in future. Thanks for the reply! - From Aarin

You’re right, we do agree it shouldn’t be that inconsistent, however this recent visit we did notice inconsistent issues across board, including Konjiki Hototogisu, another Michelin Starred Ramen-ya that used to be incredibly consistent 😂
