So English is my second language and when the show aired ofc Idk English. But I started watching these sitcoms maybe from 2018 and for Drake I honestly don't like him. Two season in and the only redeeming quality of him as a person only when there's the adopting brother or go to the class where the student hang their teacher upside down. Like to be a brother mean more to Josh than it is to Drake. Yeah, ONCE. Other than that, he's just reckless, annoying, & irresponsible. He just happened to be skinny and in a band.

That’s the first thing I thought of when the news first broke. Like, they need to check up on those who worked closely with him. The films and television industry really needs to stop making child actors a thing because there’s too much corruption and exploitation.

I've said in other videos about the Drake Bell situation that I really wonder and worry about Miranda Cosgrove, since not only did she work with Drake Bell, but on two shows with Dan Schneider, who has also been outed as a predator. She has never actually come out and said either of them did anything to her to my knowledge, and if they did she doesn't have to (and maybe they didn't). It's just a worrying thought that she was around at least two predators when she was at such a vulnerable age.

I hope that when people come back to this after the documentary, they can see that two things can be true at once; drake bell was a victim of sexual violence and he has also inflicted acts that are harmful to minors too. We can talk about how his childhood trauma informed his actions, but not use it to excuse the harm he's caused.
@ThirteenAerems
@ThirteenAerems 10 ай бұрын
Agreed. We can also relatively assess the severity of each, and have that be ok, as grey/spectra exist, and forceable violent acts are likely more severe than Drakes groomed/cptsd brain making fucked up choices that are severe in their own right. Im not a mens rights weirdo or anything; I just want to believe in the good and allow space for pelple who fucked up, to change. That was supposed to be the rationale behind prisons existing (no longer their function in USA, but thats aside). I don't want space for violence, but change should always have space, even if forgiveness, or letting go is tricky. Sockety will murder itself in hangups if we dont allow it.
@satan3034

@hammerandthewrench7924
@hammerandthewrench7924 10 ай бұрын
I think the one difference is the intent. Drakes abuser intentionally harmed him. But I think Drake was more emotionally disconnected. A wounded animal if you will, responding to things very aggressively. He hurt people in the process it I can tell he is accountable for it. There is no perfect victim. Apart of victim hood is the process of knowing and healing your trauma. If you don’t, it will devour you. His drinking and drug use definitely made him a worse person. But I will not banish him for his crimes or errors. I will hold him accountable but support him as long as he doesn’t do it again.
@ThirteenAerems
@ThirteenAerems 10 ай бұрын
@hammerandthewrench7924 Yep. We need a society that combats the prison pipeline with actual belief in peoples abilities to change. We need examples of people who fck up. We also need better understandings, casually, of trauma, and its downstream effects. I think these perspectives we seem to share here are helping in it all.

If Drake Bell had the right connections, resources and value, he would have easily gotten away with this and more because, let's be real here: child endangerment is a staple in the entertainment industry. There are hundreds, if not thousands of well established men (and women) in the industry who are fully aware of what goes on behind closed mansion doors between adult directors, writers, producers, actors etc. etc. and children of any and every age. There's a reason why the names of the shady clientele who often did business with people like Jeffrey Epstein/Ghislaine Maxwell will never be shown the light of day...

@@n0body550 yes he did. The endangerment charge had something to do with a meet and greet he had the night of the concert. He does this all the time as it's normal to do meet and greets when you're a singer. This girl's aunt kept calling and scheduling meet and greets well after she helped her niece file a false police report against him. She's more upset over this man having a wife but if she were a real victim she would have been outraged and screaming at him over the faces that he was making in that video while she was reading her victim statement.

He was clearly taking advantage of an insecure child who idolized him.

weird how after the documentary everyone forgot all about this, even if the girl had lied about her age that didnt negate all the other abuse allegations surrounding him with his ex partners. why can't be accept that while bell is a victim and his actions are clearly stemming from him perpetuating the cycle of trauma he is still very much not a harmless person in the situations in his adult life?
@hammerandthewrench7924
@hammerandthewrench7924 10 ай бұрын
Trauma can cause victims to eventually make bad decisions. But what you want is to hold drake down and make him the worse human forever, no forgiveness, internet executioner. First. Allegations are not facts. They are allegations. He was held accountable. He didn’t resist. Understanding trauma can create a cycle means you understand the potential outcomes of untreated trauma. It’s not your job to continue to shame him for his mistakes just because you think so. His one victim and the other alleged victims are the only ones who can make that choice. But as for drake’s support; they are also allowed to support him. If everyone who makes a mistake gets expelled from society. There is literally no reason to become a better person. No one will accept you no matter what. Apart of supporting ALL victims. Is supporting those WHO CHANGE THEIR WAYS, and reward positive behavior. This prevents it from going down a bad road. Blind loyalty allowed drake to be r**ped at 15. The way they just stood by that man is horrible. What drake did, was likely a misinterpretation of boundaries. While it’s his fault, I have more context now to understand why. And if his victim and alleged victims knew this, would they still be so upset? Possibly, which is valid. But the context changes everything. You’re basically saying a victim should stay silent and go away forever for exhibiting systems of trauma; which sometimes unfortunately include creating trauma for others. It’s not my place to forgive or deny drake. It’s my place to listen. I may never allow him around a child, for what he’s been convicted of, but I’m also not going to completely disregard him either. His situation is very nuanced. And your comment doesn’t do what you think it does.

Context does not matter at all, no one gets a free pass to be a criminal towards other unrelated individuals regardless of their history. For all of these women to allege things about Bell implies he’s not a very good person, up to as recently as a year and change ago where his wife divorced him on “irreconcilable differences”. He can absolutely change, but the quote “it takes 20 years to develop a reputation and 5 minutes to destroy it” is also applicable and not everyone is going to (or even should) respect him for accumulating less than 3% additional life lived without trying to diddle or allegedly abusing.

Yeah, a lot of times when these activities are taking place, there is a scheming relative intentionally putting a child in danger for financial gain. This is assuming the events mentioned had even taken place and were not entirely fabricated with sprinkles of truth mixed in, just enough to make it all seem believable. For example, they obviously exchanged messages online and her aunt had taken her to meet him on more than one occasion, and that would be enough to make it seem like Drake actually did assault her. For the record, I am not calling her a liar. However, the entire situation seems extremely odd with her aunt putting her in this situation over and over again. I also don't find it all that surprising that a lot of Disney stars end up being sexually dangerous to kids because Disney groomed these stars for a young targetted audience. The famous person gets older, his fan base doesn't and that is where they receive all the love and adoration from. It doesn't mean they are all predators but it does explain the increased likelihood of it. Not to mention the fact that there seems to be a "hidden" culture of child sexual abuse that takes place in Hollywood. It's highly likely that Drake was a victim before he became the abuser.

the cycle of abuse thing is bs and idk why it gets repeated so often, predators hear about it and use it as justification for their actions. The cycle of abuse shit is based off of self reporting by convicted predators. "61% of adult offenders claimed to have been sexually abused as children, compared to 30% after the polygraph." - Xanthe Mallett Senior Lecturer in Forensic Criminology, University of New England
@MS-wy4sb
@MS-wy4sb 3 жыл бұрын
@ Annie Appalachia You know polygraphs are pseudoscience, right? Their results are not even admissible in court. Oh, and a very plausible reason for why that percentage drops is because people who are sexually abused struggle with believing it happened, a lot. You get a bunch of police telling you it didn't happen and there's just something wrong with you, couple that with cPTSD, anxiety, depression, OSDD, DID that many survivors suffer from, it's no surprise they would doubt what happened to them. It's just as unsurprising that they could continue the cycle if they never got any help. Mind you, none of this is condoning child abuse. Just wanted to show how an attitude of condemnation does its part to perpetuate the issue. If we tried to understand, especially when these people were younger and hadn't abused, this could be prevented. Instead, we ignore, dismiss, and disbelieve when they're at an age where they can be helped.

My friend from high school loved Drake Bell growing up and told our friend group that he was her dream guy. I’ve stayed friends with her over the years and on Twitter a few years ago she posted screenshots of conversations Drake would have with her when she was a MINOR and was grooming her. When she graduated from high school and moved to Arizona to attend ASU they would hook up and he’d try to get her friends to join them. She eventually realized how gross he was and that he was just using her for sex and posted those screenshots. So when all this stuff about him being a predator come out I couldn’t be less surprised. Just sad he wasn’t thrown in jail.

As a lot of mexican kids, i grew up watching Drake and Josh every single day on Nickelodeon, during it's prime the show was really a big thing, i even dare to affirm it was considered a modern classic comedy show here in Mexico, almost reaching a cult status similar to other shows like The Simpsons or Malcolm in the middle. So, years later, when he came down to promote his career here in Mex, everybody recieved him with open arms, many people supported and cherished him a lot, he was doing interviews and playing in music festivals but then the scandal was made public and he vanished from our memories... It's really sad to see how bad he ended.
