Varys is saying he doesn't serve this Lord or that one, he's looking out for the good of the realm...trying to represent the everyday people who get caught up in these games high lords play.

Absolutely agree... I think this is a defining characteristic of Varys: he cares about the realm.

Yeah she said it's a dumb answer but if I ask her if she wants the president of her country to be a selfish man that only cares about enriching himself and letting the people become poorer and their streets more dangerous Or does she want a president that will sacrifice the money to help the people and keep their jobs so they can feed their families. And so they can feel safe at night when they go to sleep Which one would she choose? But I she said it's a "dumb answer" to care about the people. Apparently it's dumb to care about the people you supposed to serve as a person who has power over millions of lives. Her comment was a dumb answer

27:03 I think there is something interesting in that Tryion looks to his Uncle for confirmation. I think some of the POV characters in the books and even the show do an injustice to Ser Kevan, I think he is smart and capable, and those saying otherwise in the show or books have an axe to grind or are just being rude.

When Varys said it was Ned's mercy that killed the king, I always thought he was alluding to the possibility that telling Cersei he knew about her children may have given her the opportunity to tamper with Robert's wine or have her cousin do it.

In the books bran hears jaime telling cersei that they will be safe if robert dies and joffery becoming king. I think cersei had a plan to kill robert but couldn't go with it until ned said he knows about the secret.

All the Stark children except Sansa had time to bond to their direwolves. Sansa is lost without Lady. In the books, there is evidence Arya is still connected to Nymeria even though they are separated.

@ 31:24 - I think it’s pretty clear by the over-the-top reactions of Joffrey’s council that Sansa’s plea was scripted and rehearsed beforehand to make a show of it for the other nobles at court. Sadly, she’s not manipulating anyone. She’s the one being manipulated.

I agree with you Lipps. Sanza isn't weak, rather I think she just has not found her strength yet. It's hidden behind her naivety, and sweetness.

@@LippsReacts i wouldnt keep a lot of expectations for Sansa, the show really drops the ball for her character. I was disappointed with how her character was dealt with when I was a show-only, but after reading the books I want the drugs that the show runners were on.

Is she that sweet though? Even in the show she’s quite the spoiled brat, and that’s a watered-down version of the petulance she exhibits in the books.

@@GeorgeEugeneBarrettit’s about self preservation, she’s not headstrong like her brothers and Arya but she’s smart enough to know the right things to say - it’s how she survived in King’s Landing for as long as she did

I'm so glad I subscribed! Sansa is definitely her Mommy's daughter more than anything. Her mother Catelyn is a Tully, from a noble house further south in the lush, green Riverlands. Remember what she told Ned who was sitting under that stunning scenery (The Godswood) in the first episode when she came to break the news John Arryn died? She said she still felt like an outsider up North. She comes from a different culture which you learn more about in the Histories in Lore. But as you can probably already tell from Catelyn, her wackadoodle sister and Sansa, it is a culture women are raised to be ladies and have no other goal in life but to marry well. They are taught how to be pleasing, dress well, know all the courtesies of court. Their upbringing is more like a Finishing School for ladies more than anything. They spend their time reading romantic stories about knights and fair maidens etc. That kind of upbringing does not prepare a young woman for how dark, dangerous, dishonorable and deceptive the world truly is. The women of the North however are tougher because the North is a much less gentle place and as you can see from this episode has some majorly SCARY stuff in it. Women there cannot afford to be delicate little ladies. Even highborn women there hunt and are allowed to fight alongside their men and some are the heads of their houses. Arya leans more into her Father Ned’s Northern side. First episode she was bored out of her mind doing finishing school for ladies activities. You can see a different kind of pride in Ned when he speaks with her and absolute confusion and incompetence when he speaks with Sansa. You are in for one of the best journeys of two sisters learning very different kinds of strengths given their foundations, which can be seen in how they named their wolves. Sansa named hers Lady. Arya named hers Nymeria (named after a legendary warrior princess whose story you will love in Histories & Lore). There is some seriously good world building in this show because the source material is so good.

So so so well said and I am so glad you are here!! It’s interesting to see Sansa as such an outlier the same way Tyrion is an outlier for the Lannisters (tho obviously the reasons they are bout outliers is quite different). Can’t wait to see the world continue to unfold

You really can't compare girls and boys in how they are raised during this time. The boys are raised to fight, and be like their father. The girls (daughters of a Lord, anyway) are basically facing an arranged marriage down the road. In Sansa's case, it was a literal prince. However, she's still young. Children learn as they grow older...

Absolutely! I am excited to see how sansa evolves. She is quite an outlier in the stark family by way of personality, but different doesn’t mean bad

In the book the Syrio fight with the Lannister men was more graphic. One of the men loses an eye and at least one knee cap was shattered.

That would have been better in the show. Seeing him fend off these guys with a wooden sword seems more unrealistic than it would be if we saw more of what kind of injuries they'd sustained. Instead it looks like he's only knocked them out briefly with the hilt.

To be fair, Thorne is at the Wall because he was a Targaryen loyalist. He was on the losing side of the rebellion. That's another reason he hates Jon, Ned's bastard.

Nah people can be better. I’m always 6 episodes ahead of what youtube sees and if people overstep they get muted! It’s not like a mod can be on 24/7 so there’s always a chance someone will comment something and I pop on to youtube studio before a mod gets to it!

As I understand it Syrio Forel's religion does not allow him to pick up, a dead man's weapon; even that of an enemy. And Varys was right about Ned Stark's mercy, and his answer was about as far from dumb as anyone on this show ever was. Try to remember that Sansa is a thirteen year old girl; not even having reached puberty yet, kerk

Sansa was groomed and tutored from a very young age to become a lady, and to marry a prince would have been the highest achievement for a girl in her position. Yes, she was naive and silly at times, but her training was deeply ingrained and for a long time she only saw what she wanted (and expected) to see. She is now starting to see things differently, and will have to change her behaviour accordingly ... watch this space! 😉

Without getting into spoiler territory, Sandals Character starts a bit "shallow"......she likes the nice and fine things, she wants to marry a Prince and be the Queen, etc.......and she starts out very naive as well, because she has been sheltered, and she's only 13, But she does definitely have that Stark severity and strength within her.
