I'm so damn happy you're producing media that helps people have a realistic view of what working as an officer is like. There's so much uninformed, impulsive hate out there towards our entire police force, and the mainstream media sure likes to capitalize on it. So disappointing to see officers massively disrespected for working such a stressful, dangerous job for their community. I mean, I think the legal system as a whole is screwed, and there are absolutely departments out there that need to make some changes, but our culture's perspectives on police need to change as well before any real pragmatic goals can be achieved. Thank you for the videos, and thank you for your service.

8 months in the Garda college. The extent of firearms training is "Yeap, this is what a gun looks like, this is how you unload it... any questions? No? Okay so we're going to take a look at the breathalysers now......" And the driver training is basically "Do you have a drivers license? Can you drive a manual transmission? If yes to both, no further training required" After the 8 months you aren't even a fully qualified officer either. You have to complete an additional 16months of probation/on the job training before you become fully qualified.

Didn't go as planned.. HUGE back up on the roadway to the station. left an hour early, back up made me five minutes late. During the interview with the chief all i could think about was how bad i messed up, so i couldn't focus on the questions she was asking so it seemed like i was just half assing my answers. BUT after the letter of denial from the chief, my local shipyard called me offering a position the same day. im now making 6k more a year than what the department was offering, but i would've made a good officer. It hurts a little bit knowing i could've made a difference in that pretty damaged community but i like to think that everything happens for a reason. maybe ill try again someday (im only 21) but until then i guess i can say im doing my country a solid still by helping build Americas war ships.

Going Yooper check with whatever department you wanna join and long as they don't have an age limit then you good to go. 41 is on the older side but definitely not to old. just remember your gonna have Sgt and Lts that are younger than you. long as that don't bother you then go apply!

I went through the police academy in Sea Girt NJ (home of the NJ State Trooper academy, I wasn't a trooper though) with the NJ Dept. of Law and Public Safety so naturally we had to be just as hard core as the Troopers (not a bad thing) but I found it funny (and fun) as hell. I went through after 8 years in the Army and a tour in Iraq. So the first day when the instructors are all yelling and cursing and all that shit I just couldn't help but smile. This of course brought them all to me and for the love of God I couldn't stop smirking. Finally the head instructor pulled me aside and asked me what the hell my problem was. Well after I told him that this shit only intimidated and works once in your life and that it did scare me when I was 17 and stupid and in basic training it wasn't working now after my deployment since well once you have been through that a little yelling doesn't do much to you they backed off me a bit and I was able to regain composure. I personally had a blast in the academy. It was painful however, so I suggest doing it while your young or before you have beaten your body to hell and back.

I am currently enrolled in a Public Safety class in my senior year in highschool, where we go over the basics of Law enforcement, CERT, First Aid, etc... A few months back we had to learn some case laws. When I heard Officer401 say there were two case laws that were going to be on the academy test, I guess both right without hesitation! I guess it's not really something to gloat about now that I think about it... But I thought it was pretty cool that my teacher taught me them.

There are DWI defense lawyers who get the training manual from police academies on DWI and then try to identify ways that an officer didn't follow it in their cases.

This eased my mind. Thank you! I am really looking forward to joining the NOPD. I have military experience and also previous Security/ Correctional experience. My only issue is passing the Civil Service exam. 😂😂 I hate that written test!

Just a comparison. In MN, you need a two year law enforcement degree at minimum. Some departments here require 4 year degrees, and a few agencies here require a 2 yr and paramedic certification. An Associate Degree in Law Enforcement in MN goes like this, semesters 1&2 are general education classes. You go to a normal college and take English 1&2, intro to criminal justice, juvenile justice, sociology, family violence, and a few more. 3rd semester you attend school at a law enforcement consortium and you go in uniform (no duty belt), and learn constitutional issues, criminal investigation, criminal and traffic code, patrol ops. Prior to beginning the 4th semester you need to have a psychological exam, physical and criminal background completed. 4th semester (skills), that's when all the fun stuff happens. Firearms, emergency driving (80mph in reverse on ice, whaaaaat), building clearances, etc. After you pass all that then you get to take MN POST board exam. 400 questions of accumulated knowledge. When you get that letter saying you passed, then the job search begins. MN averages 300 applications for even the crappy PT jobs. Highly competitive area for LE jobs. I'm sure the background packets are the same or similar to GA. Name of your neighbor from 10 years ago, etc. However, there is no Polygraphs or CVSA in MN. I guess they don't see 80% accuracy as reliable. That's my story, sure no one will read all of this. If you did thank you, my thumbs are sore now and it's good to know it wasn't for nothing.

I will never forget the GBI guy for Intox 5k class. Ben Stein want to be and no I was a military police traffic investigator station at Gordon/Augusta not GA LE. Because we dealt with civilians on post we had to take GA certified courses
