1983 I am at an Air Force Base, happily serving my country. But I came from a really sheltered Ozark mountain upbringing. My sargeant took me for a ride to the base lake on our day off and we are listening to this awesome song and I discovered the early 80's music. What a time in human music.Awesome that when I hear a tune from 40 or 50 years ago I can connect a memory in my life to that. Like I said music is for your soul. @@DianeBerkahn-bg3lcNo, there are several ways to interpret this song. While one interpretation is that they are singing about stalking, they could also be singing about a love in which the lyrical self wants to protect the partner and takes special care of them Or maybe they sing about a child they are protecting and the lyrical self sings from the parent's perspective. You see the song is not only about stalking, but even if, IT IS still great.

@@mizuki_369 do why do you all love this song so much... Respectfully
@MSRooky350z5 жыл бұрын
it's not creepy. if you ignore what sting said about it, and you don't take every word literally(like in most songs), you just have a song about someone who is in love but got rejected/has no chance/didn't try... the only line that sounds a bit possesiv is the "you belong to me" one, and i can probably find at least 10 romantic movie scenes with the same line. the rest is just what everyone in love does, watch the one they love. (and no, as i said not literally every step, breath or move, but every second one can get. just like back in school/collage where we all watched that one person once he/she entered the room). so if he wanted or not, he wrote a pretty good song about love.

Sting said once on an interview that the lyrics of this song is a hymn to the stalking and that he could not understand how the people could use it in marriages and romantic circumstances. For what he meant while writing these words he maybe be right but he did not look at the whole picture. Since I become a father of a beautiful baby girl the words of this song assumed a totally different meaning for me. In my current perspective they picture a father that just loves his daugther, and regardless of what will happen, will always love her. This song could be a hymn to fatherly love more than a romantic one.

Sting called this "the nasty little song" that spent no. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 for many weeks. Pure and simple the song is about a stalker. Some fans objected after finding this out. I feel it is one of the best 80s songs period.

I think it is awesome to have a song about a pissed of rejected partner. I'm sure we can all think of other songs that have this same sentiment. We all go to dark places at times in our lives. Sometimes very dark, very angry. This song captures so many dark emotions. That's what makes it great.

Sometimes, the cruelness within us is beautiful, like this song, a song made of wanting to own someone, to a degree that its for a stalker, well he did suffer from his first wife..
@dominicsanimatedreviews59663 жыл бұрын
Yes it's definitely dark, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's awful. As long as people realize the context and don't take it as "romantic". Context for any media can be quite important.

I danced with my girl in the woods to this song. It was a summer evening; the sun was going down. Everything was perfect. I will never forget that experience. She's beautiful. EDIT: YES. I know that this song is about a stalker, I knew that long before we danced. 😂😂😂 We first kinda of bonded over Stranger Things… and so we kinda started talking about the Snowball, and slow dancing together as time went on…since Mike and Eleven danced to this song at the end of the season, we thought it would be romantic for us to do it as well… AND we’re both onto classic 80’s music like this too, so it just made sense. Also, the likes are insane… Thank you all! ❤

My high school sweetheart broke up with me just before this song came out. It was on the radio constantly, brutal. To this day I think of her when I hear this song.
