This film is presented by Holton International (:10). It dictates what it takes to be a Police Supervisor highlighting the attributes necessary for the leadership role as it follows a day in the life of a Sergeant. It was produced and directed by L. H. Holton (:18). The film opens with officers taking oath (:30) from the Police Supervisor. One officer looks to his badge noting that he is a Sergeant I (:59). The Supervisor must keep other officers on task as he enters the break room at the department (1:26). A comic strip is noted on the wall used to mock the Sergeant (1:46). The officers are seen horsing around and bickering with one another (2:07). The sergeant orders the men to fall in (2:49). He addresses the group informing them of changes or lack of changes to the order (3:22). The officers take notes as the supervisor dictates (3:34). He addresses one of the men separately from the group about a past grievance (4:38). Officer Frank is told to get a haircut to smooth out his appearance (4:55). The sergeant makes his routes around the city (5:27). He steps from his car at an intersection here as horns are heard blaring (5:53). An officer is seen giving directions to a young attractive female driver (6:21) as the Sergeant stops in to finish the job (6:57) and continue traffic forward. The Sergeant is seen meeting with his supervisor (7:23). The pair discuss complaints on the previous day’s reports (8:05). He then re-enters the break room following the briefing (9:01) to discuss the complaints about teenagers gathering in front of candy stores. Two of the officer’s approach the supervisor about switching positions (10:00) to which he replies that he must bring the issue to the lieutenant highlighting the order of command. He pulls one of the officers aside to reprimand him in private (10:52). He is addressing Officer Frank about inappropriately receiving a haircut while he was on duty (11:09). The sergeant reminds the officer that he was specifically instructed not to take time off from patrol time for the haircut (12:01). As Frank continues to act insubordinately, the sergeant must maintain composure and not lose his temper (12:30). The officers and sergeant go over positions (14:07) for an upcoming job. Patrol vehicles roll up to the destination; a residential house (15:01). They scout their surroundings upon arrival checking for snipers (15:27). Another duty of the sergeant is to organize proper reports and copies (17:25). As the film begins to wrap up, it draws on the importance of supervisors having a leadership quality (18:49). A final note informs viewers the film was created with the assistance of the Trenton, NJ Police Department (19:03).

They really are, they provide a great window to the views and demeanor of the times. Even if the acting can be a bit corny, the presentation is always an accurate representation of how the filmographer felt at the time with how they portray and explain rules.

This was filmed in Trenton NJ The dispatch center was the fire alarm office at the time. You could see the Gamewell box receiver and box cards on a standing Rolodex in the background.

I'm just glad to see there's a black man among them being treated with just as much respect. It's what they DON'T show you that makes you wonder, but I do believe racism wasn't AS bad as a lot of people want to believe, as much as when it WAS bad, it was horrendous in how it went unchecked.

Don't send Frank around the back!!! His blatant disregard of hair regulations clearly shows he's a loose cannon.

Not gonna lie though, getting a hair cut while on the clock as an officer is kind of a special kind of disrespect. That's our tax money being spent on his haircut. XD Though at the same time, if the company requires a haircut, block out a time for him to get it when he's off duty but still on the clock. I hate when companies make us "dress smart" on our own time and dollar.

"Also wise guy, I'm still angry with you about that crack you made at me. You can tell by my expression it's water under the bridge, but that water is muddy and steaming." You can So tell he wanted to do more than fire him. Took every OUNCE of restraint to not go "I'm the captain!" Though that wise guy start if not for being used as an example would've gotten the book thrown at him. also screw the lutenant... if the higher up tells me to relay a message, "The lutenient said we need to look out for teenagers at the block, so lets shift our focus to the block team!" is PERFECTLY fine! I'm not taking credit for his tantrum.
