Do you have a video how you do all the changes? And what the dropper seat post size also how you do the internal cable routing for the dropper post
@JaredRMorgan2 жыл бұрын
I have the specs listed for the dropper in the description which was a 30.9 diam 150 travel KS rage I for my size L. I did do a video on a Marin bobcat installing a dropper (the process is the same), and there’s no real secret to the internal routing other than taking your time to fish the cable housing through…sometimes it cooperates and sometimes it’s a pain. I highly advise you check out my bobcat trail video when I do the dropper on that bike bc by then I was really good at it and had some best tips for the execution.

Just got the D5 for my 14yo who’s loving it! Thanks for sharing all the tips on the upgrade! He’d like to add a dropper post. Do you have any videos on how you did it? Thx!
@JaredRMorgan4 жыл бұрын
I didn’t record the dropper install, but it’s not unlike any other dropper post install. The hardest part will be the internal routing of the downtube which will likely take special tools or a helper. I had my wife easing the cable housing down the downtube slowly from the headtube while I waited down by the bottom bracket to fish it out with a pick. It took a few tries.
@miscampos4 жыл бұрын
How did you handle the dropper post cable sharing the same grommets as the rear brake cable at the bottom and the rear shifter at the top? I’m thinking we’ll have to disconnect those and replace the grommets but hoping there’s a more elegant way to not have to do that. Thx again!
@JaredRMorgan4 жыл бұрын
So I didn’t have to get any new grommets. The grommet that the shifter ran into had a spare hole that I used for the dropper. Then I exited out of the grommet for the rear brake. For this grommet I did have to carefully and slowly drill out a new hole. Then there’s one final grommet in the seatube that is for the dropper post.
@VeganSurf4 жыл бұрын
@@JaredRMorgan I installed a dropper in my 2021 D5 and getting the grommets back in just took like 4 hours of staring at it and trying again until I finally got the grommets back into the holes with sheer willpower. Getting the cable to come out the other hole was easy by comparison

Yeah the grommets fought me a little bit. Overall the task can be a little challenging.

You could mullet the front end if you wanted to and do a 29” fork and front wheel. I would say no on the 150mm, that’s too much to try and stuff under that front end. You could overfork it and do a 130 for sure. Maybe a 140. Wouldn’t do 150, personally.

@JaredRMorgan4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! So you won’t be able to change to 29 out back, but if you wanted to make it a mullet bike when you upgrade your fork you can do that. Mullet means 29 front 27.5 rear. Ex: when buying your front fork upgrade select a 29 instead of a 27.5. Then you’ll need a 29 wheel and tire to match.
@DJNASTYCHUY4 жыл бұрын
@@JaredRMorgan would that make a difference? Or should I just purchase a hardtail suspension bike and go with 29er? Am not too sure about bikes and barely starting to ride. Just for fun.. But I am heavy. Is 27.5 plus an option as well? Or I cant swap those out either?
@JaredRMorgan4 жыл бұрын
No it won’t fit a 27.5 plus. But any 29er bike from what I understand can take 27.5+ tires in exchange. If you’re trying to stay in a budget I’d consider maybe a 27.5+ hardtail so you have the extra cushion from the air volume. Otherwise a 29er F/S with a more sophisticated rear suspension would be nice. But you may have to budget 2k+....it really depends on your budget.

I pulled the stock race off the stock fork. It’s a pain, but just try to get a flathead under the race with a hammer. You gotta tap it underneath on one side, then tap it underneath on the other side. Continue to alternate around it and eventually you’ll get it. Try not to get frustrated, bc yeah it was totally annoying. You’ll likely leave some marks in that XCM, but it is what it is.

D6= 1,924 dollars. D5= 1,500 dollars. The extra 400 dollars gives you a decent air shock&fork, 1 by drivetrain, dropper post which would set you back more then 400 dollars if you tried to upgrade the d5. Anyway nice video liked the upgrades. Would you call the d5 more of a xc or trail bike?

For the climbs, would leaving the 2x drive train make it easier than the 1x conversion? Or is the 2x not useful at all? Im waiting on my D5 to be delivered, considering some mods.
@JaredRMorgan3 жыл бұрын
Good question. It’s a debate in the sense that in the climbs a lighter bike also helps. The bike lost a ton of weight simplifying it to 1x. Plus having the cockpit de-cluttered from eliminating the 2x left space to add the dropper remote. The dropper is such a necessary mod. Down the road you can add a wider range cassette to the 1x to make it to where you lose 0 range from the conversion if you feel like you need more.
