The Power of Self Talk | Marc Cordon | TEDxOcala

There is a stigma on self-talk as an outcome of mental distress, but the technique of "self-talk" when appropriately used not only shows empirically studied rises in an ability to regulate emotions, to focus, to identify new opportunities, and to see the world as a welcoming place. Furthermore, self-talk is especially essential for people of color or women who have been raised in a predominantly white, male, financially stable, thin, heterosexual, and Christian mainstream. In his TEDx Talk, Positive Psychology Coach Marc Cordon​ talks about the elements of self-talk...without having to change who you TRULY are.
He is a positive psychology coach, co-founder of The Joy Revolution™, and author of the book Beyond Resilient: The Coach’s Guide to Ecstatic Growth. He specializes in transitions, leadership, performance, and well-being, helping people break through to the next level to find greater enjoyment and purpose in their lives. With a focus on misfit entrepreneurs and leaders who march to the beat of their own drum, Marc’s coaching empowers people to claim their own joy as they make a difference for others. Marc served as the Associate Director of Health Promotion and of Multicultural Programs and Services at Emory University where he developed programs and curriculum on social justice, positive psychology, and community engagement. He has received a BS in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology and a Masters in Public Health in Policy and Management, as well as coaching accolades from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching and the WholeBeing Institute. a compatriot; a Filipino to like I am? All about the ego, boy. We Filipinos value ego so much in our culture. Many of us want to get onto TED stage from our self-centered ego, man. Not yet a good time to give our culture much publicity before the world stage, and instead our civil aociwty needs to have a retreat, take a step back first to be more upright than the tower of ego we value in our culture. I'm not proud of this despite the fact that I'm a Filipino too; too many things are taken out of context in our culture for ignorance is till rampant here including among our professionals here, they just graduate in colleges and universities w/o exerting excellence in ones own studies, that's how things work around here. Especially the field of psychology, graduates just have ego in thinking to oneself one has mastery of the field of human behavior; many fields here are tainted with ego as part of the professional culture including Law where new graduates don't know how to be stately, Business Administration where mostly who enter the field are violent people characteristic with aggression... and other fields, as well as non-professional sectors Been observing our own culture and how it changes in these years, more appropriately, how our culture "mutated" badly. Just imagine back in the early days of facebook we internet-users from the Philippines were number one as regards cyberbullying, you won't find the same low-public morale online anywhere else in the world than in our culture. And in the early days of facebook, we already have one of the highiest percentage in our population of facebook users × very high percentage of those who's way of life patronizes cyberbullying as a great thing until campaigns against cyberbullying was started hy certain special-interest groups.
