Fury vs Usyk is a fascinating fight if it happens, but regarding AJ he just fought a boxer who is just at a different level. As the cliche says styles make fights and his style is well suited for Usyk. AJ had his chance as seen by round 9, but couldn't sustain the effort. I really do think the first loss to Ruiz shook the hell out of AJ, because it cracked his "I'm invincible, no one can beat me" armor. When you're a guy like AJ, with an Adonis-like physique, surrounded by yes men and getting hyped up every time you land a glancing jab against an opponent, you feel like you can't be beat...and then you get knocked out by a pudgy late replacement opponent everyone expected you to just run over. It's absolutely devastating mentally. But, Usyk is also just on another level as a boxer, as you said. He moves around like a smaller man - which makes sense, since he was a cruiserweight. But Tyson Fury also moves around like a smaller man, and he's 6'9". AJ just isn't on that level. He CANNOT outbox Usyk, and he doesn't have the mentality to dig in deep and risk getting hurt or knocked out to hurt Usyk. I agree with this stance. He simply can't beat Usyk.

I don't think AJ could have done any more than he did in that fight. He fought as well as I have ever seen him fight but Usyk was simply too good - too fast, too evasive, too clever. I take the point about AJ not being prepared to dig deep enough, but I think his meltdown at the end of the fight is a good indication of how much he wanted it and how devastated he was after the loss. I genuinely think he gave it all he had but Usyk has more. I have huge respect for both fighters and there is absolutely no shame in Joshua's loss to a fighter of Usyk's calibre

Joshua definitely has heart. He picked himself up off the floor against Wladimir to stop him. He got rocked by Dillian Whyte, bit down on his gum shield, weathered the storm and got him out of there. It seems Joshua's no longer the all offensive, hungry power puncher he was early on his career. I imagine it's partly because he's experienced being knocked out, but also he's been to the top, he's made his riches and he simply has more to lose at this stage, which has made him more hesitant in the ring. It happens to everyboydy. Remember Carl Froch early in his career, he would fight anybody, walk through anybody and wanted to prove he was the best at 168 lbs. Once he got to the top, had that defeat to Andre Ward, but then Ward moved up and Froch has the status of being the 168 lbs king his attitude changed. He openly admitted to swerving Golovkin. Adonis Stevenson called him out, it was too big a risk so he didn't take it. He went kicking and screaming into that forced rematch with George Groves, and after winning that the only fight he wanted was Chavez Jr, the easiest matchup for the most cash. All of this was because Froch had made it to the top, and being at the top you have more to lose. He already had the reputation he wanted, he just didn't want to lose a fight, and the reputation along with it. Same with AJ. It's just hard to fight with the same hunger and abandon, take the risks necessary to win and prove yourself, when you have already proven yourself and the only way is down. It happend in MMA too, some of the latter defense of Jon Jones and GSP were insipid affairs, safety first, because they were at the top and the key is to not make mistakes. It took GSP coming back and moving up to get a new challenge with fire in his belly and hopefully Jones Jr will have that too at heavyweight, the need to prove themselves all over again. Maybe in defeat, AJ's no longer at the top, no longer has that status as one of the best in the world, and his drive to get that status back will see him take risks again. I hope so, because at his best AJ is a formidable opponnent for anybody.

Perfectly put. For me AJ has never been the same fighter since that first Ruiz punch in the head at MSG.. Prior to that he could take a shot, Klitschko, Whyte, Povetkin all rocked him and he came back to win but Ruiz did the damage. Usyk 2, totally agree that 9th rd he was hitting shoulders arms and fresh air mostly but initially he caught Usyk with a great body shot. He's also showed improvements so for me the Wilder fight needs to happen next and IF he beats him he'll be back as a serious threat. What a great time for heavyweight boxing.

@@microfarming8583 that chin argument is dead. If AJ did not have a good chin he should have had KO losses against Povektin, Klitschko, and Whyte, all of whom are heavy hitters and knockout artists. The first loss he had was a TKO loss to Ruiz, and that was as a result of a shot to the temple that he could not recover from. That was the same shot that he used to stun Whyte before he KOed him in the 7th round, was the same shot that Fury hit Wilder with in the 2nd fight in round 3 that dropped Wilder so he could not recover. AJ's issue is definitely all mental at this point, he shows improvement in every fight and acquitted himself well in the rematch. But between the corner advice and his own hesitation of getting hurt, there's a mental wall he needs to overcome. When you're behind, the first place you should hear it from is your own corner. And when you're going into the ring to stop the other guy, you should accept the risk that you may get hurt in the process. It's not a perfect, fairy tale world in the ring.

Why AJ tried to do the same thing again blows my mind, he’s never going to out box usyk. The only way to beat Usyk is battering his body, until hes hurt and makes his head vulnerable. Everyone was saying that, even fury said it. An 84kg Beterbiev knocked down Usyk at 92kg to the body in Olympic gloves. Aj had the power to do the same, but he was scared to put his head down and dig to the body out of fear of being KOd.

It's easy to say he should've just went to the body and wore Usyk down - but if a fighter is not there to hit then it just becomes a drain on Joshua's stamina. Perhaps AJ could've tried to cut the ring off more effectively and limit Usyk's movement but it's not an easy thing to do against an opponent of that calibre. I don't think Joshua was scared of getting hurt or anything like that, I just think he was out-boxed by a better fighter. Joshua could've been more proactive in the fight prior to the 9th round, for sure, but, again, it is not an easy thing to do when you are in the ring with someone of Usyk's class.

This was a good fight for boxing tonight; I had AJ winning rds 4,6, 8 and 9. In rd 7, he looked confused where at one point he felt like he was going to have a repeat of the same situation as the first fight. He was buoyed in rd8 when he scored heavy on Usyk and had him close to going out. Usyk somehow recovered then and in rd 9 when he was in SERIOUS trouble again. AJ merely has to get back in line and start building back up; that being said, he still has the best HW record today out of all his peers; While Wilder and Fury are in the twilight of their careers, he will move on and carry through. I believe he will go down like Larry Holmes in that he will not be fully appreciated until he has retired and the dust settles on his career. It's unfortunate but appears to be the fact as the man with the best resume in the division and who has been the most consistent champion is still in the shadow of "flashier" HWs. Let's see what the future holds for AJ. His performance tonight was BETTER but still not enough and he has room for development. Let's see how all of that pans out for the future.

It was a heavy loss and he was fairly significantly overmatched. The bottom line is - in terms of skill and movement he isn't an elite level boxer. That's ok, because of the sheer size requirements many of them aren't. AJ certainly isn't technically worse than Wilder although Wilder does move his feet better. Usyk and Fury are streaks ahead technically. Even a fit Andy Ruiz looked slightly better.

@@CamMackay96 Fury has more impressive accomplishments in terms of beating the 'big guys'- Klitschko and Wilder, maybe Whyte. If I had to choose which fight I had to watch again it wouldn’t be Fury’s & remember this is a bums on seats sport. Is Fury a better boxer, yes, did he do a better job on klitschko No!! As always a great set of insights. My take on Usyk goes back 3-4 years when I first picked up that there was a very special guy out there, and none of what he brings to a ring is by accident. Usyk and his team combine a strong analytical, scientific human science approach - with elite boxing preparation and a fitness regime that is efficient and productive. AJ by comparison is back in the gym, trying harder, putting the effort in - and that`s the first key flaw. He works SO hard, but misses the benefit of objectives and thinks his destiny is within his own control. If he tries a bit harder, does a bit more - he`ll get there. He won`t, because that`s a very British mentality where we admire effort over talent. We love a good trier. Bruno very similar, a fine physical specimen, nobody worked harder - but he couldn't adapt and couldn't react appropriately in the ring, in key scenarios. Couldn't cope with an onslaught, was winning fights then got caught and couldn't ride the storm sensibly etc. AJ is similar, is focused on his brand too much, and Usyk is just an elite athlete who is humble, takes the hard fights wherever they may be - and genuinely a true warrior. Intelligent though, wow, the man is cranial. Good fight in the making - Ruiz v Joshua III. Ruiz last night would beat AJ again, no doubt in my mind. He`s a pocket rocket that guy, bangs hard, fast hands, clever, brave - him and Wilder would be insane. AJ can beat Fury though, if he loses the entourage, and IF he gets Peter Fury in his corner - he will change for the better.

He'll be fine. He doesn't need to retire. He doesn't need to be ashamed. He just needs to get back in the gym and get back to work. He still has plenty of time to get better. And no, fights are not the same thing every time you run it back. If that was true their wouldn't be such a thing as trilogy fights. Usyk fought a great fight. Great video and interesting thoughts. I think one of Aj's biggest assets is his age (youth). Fury and Usyk compete for undisputed. Regardless who wins the winner will retire with a perfect unbeaten record. Wilder is the oldest in the top tier group. He has to build his way back up but has only a couple good years left. As long as Fury is around Wilder's chance to get a belt is small. So when Fury, Usyk and Wilder retire Aj might still be around and be the best contender to get all belts. Maybe he will even improve until then.

If that fight was a boxing match I would say joshau won on points but given it was for the world titles he lost via 4 knockdowns, I would have gave the 2nd one to ruiz as well, joshua never took the fight to him or took his titles back, he pitter pattered to a lousy points win over a fat, unfit and out of shape ruiz who still troubled joshua enough for him not to engage. One of the worst world champions to ever come from these shores I would say, Frank Bruno would have battered joshua in his prime nevermind people like lennox Lewis. don't get me wrong, he would bash me all day long but as much as I'm not a pro, he isn't world level.

Looking at the Anatomy of the two boxers AJ wins but in reality Usyk's skills as a boxer are in a class way higher. It is like a kid who started playing soccer at 4 years old (Usik )and a kid start playing soccer at 11. Almost nailed on the 11 year old simply will not even be a good amateur. . Oleksadr is a great Middleweight who can fight at light heavy and realises wow I can fight great at heavyweight because of his skill factor. Usik's reality check would be a Tyson Fury or a Mike Tyson. The point is a boxer (AJ) who didn't take sport up till 18 years old simply can never have the skill level of a Mike Tyson, a Tyson Fury. That is fact. Yes he gets skills and size gives him some success but he can't be a great boxes because he has with little boxing skill or intelligence. When AJ got knocked out in sparring of first time ring suddenly realises oh need to up change everything which again wasn't thought or coached about correctly. If you'd boxed from being a kid this panic situation would never have happened suddenly wouldn't change style as he seemed do now on every fight because he finally experiencing concussion didn't know instinctively what to do. .

The yesmen in AJs corner are a huge problem, but who appoints those yesmen? Ultimately Joshua is responsible for surrounding himself with sycophants who tell him what he wants to hear rather than what he needs to hear.

True what you saying but what Brian said is true. AJ as good as he is, he clearly doesn't commit as much as he use to back in the day. During the fight. He is clearly scared of getting stopped and hurt.

It’s not about hating on him because your jealous it’s about knowing he was a complete different person to the media friendly bullshit and then him revealing his truth self. You don’t have these issues with boxers like Fury or Wilder, they talk their talk and they don’t give a fuck. AJ just wants everyone to love him, that’s why he’s got a weak mindset and sensitive when he loses or gets criticised. Boo hoo 😢

I agree with everything in this video, but Joshua did have Usyk in a bit of trouble in the 9th and Usyk admitted as much afterwards. He just wasn't good enough to know how to finish him off.
@triptoyourheart
@triptoyourheart 2 жыл бұрын
I disagree, AJ was nowhere near to hurting Usyk because he didn't land almost anything. Usyk just said AJ was adding pressure in the 9th and he had trouble controlling the round, that's far from getting finished.

@@triptoyourheart Where did I say Usyk was finished? I said Joshua couldn't finish him off. he hurt Usyk, Usyk said so after the fight that he was in a bit of trouble in the 9th. If you don't want to believe the actual fighter then I don't know what else I can say to convince you.

I didn’t know about the group chat stuff but it sounds like a lack of preparation that deep into a fight camp. Normally you’ve watched tons of video, picked apart habits tendencies etc. you know what your opponent does well and game plan/train to pick apart weaknesses. Then it’s just a matter of execution. Asking someone outside your training camp how to handle a fighter shows a lack of understanding about your opponent that is kinda crazy for such a huge comeback fight for AJ.

The Joshua going hell for leather game plan is flawed. When AJ was boxing in the earlier rounds, he was doing OK, might not have been winning but the rounds were close. When he let his hands go in round 9, it took such a toll on him that he got battered in the next 2 rounds and those rounds won the fight for Usyk
