Thanks for the tomato talk! I've been gardening for a few years. I've killed way more tomato plants than I've raised successfully, especially this year with the local storms. That being said, it's been my most successful garden so far. It's so worth it.

Asian identity is crazy, I’m south East Asian so I’m a bit darker but I don’t get the same love from the “Asian” folks cause I’m a bit darker. The older Chinese and vietnamese group used to give us the dirty stare or shitty treatment because we were darker and we aren’t Chinese or Vietnamese. When race tension heated up the past few years with blacks vs Asians, noooooow everyone wanna come together but fuck that.
@SeeHang Жыл бұрын
its crazy when you realize everyone is just out for themselves. I'm Hmong American. our history as a people is one of the most complex because we originate from the Miao people of China, can still be found in China. sometime about a few hundred years ago, We migrated to Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and what is now Myanmar. After the American Vietnam War / CIA's Secret War also known as Laos Civil war we escaped genocide crossing the Mekong into Thailand and entered as the first largest Asian Immigrant population in America since the Chinese Exclusion Act. This isnt a humble brag but we as a people are divided across the world now for the last 50 years where we are still struggling to maintain our culture as it has always been 2nd to every country we have lived in for the last thousand years even though only within the last 60 years did we first establish a written language as for thousands of years we've only had an oral history and oral culture to pass down. We Hmong people have a word equal to the N word here in the USA but the only reason why people dont use it towards us is because we renamed ourselves as well as hundreds of years have passed. The word was Miao, in countries like China, Vietnam and Laos they would say it like how cats Meow. We were also easy to pick out because full blooded although rare Hmong people were known to have natural blonde hair. China used to oppress us as slaves and even when we were freed but banned to use our language they would cut off our tongues, but our people were resilient and oddly enough our language doesn't require you to use your tongue for those who speak it to understand. People will do whatever they do to push you down, but people will always endure and survive.

I'm glad to know the behind the scenes on what happened to Drips and Swirls. Still remember it to this day when the shop closed PERMANENTLY. Took me out for a good minute. I hope that in the future you'll be able to operate your own soft serve spot with people that you know and trust on an business mindset. The early grey and the piña colada was f'ing delicious btw. All my Korean friends loved Drips and Swirls.

I relate a lot to what David said about representing his Asian-American identity as Mexican-American. As a Millennial I only see this issue grow more with Zoomers, where Mexicans do so much for other cultures/movements but do nothing for their own community. And they get angry when you call them out on it. A lot Mexicans wait for others to give them platform, if they even get it that is. Sure there's Blue Beetle film now, but crazy how it took until 2023 to not only get a Mexican superhero film, but just a film in general where you have Mexican people acting like normal people. Another big thing is, you can be weird and have hobbies and not do the whole "durr I act so white for a mexican" persona.

im Asian American but i noticed most mexicans in cinema n tv series are playing macho/gangsters stereotypes or illegal immigrants sitting at a home depot with exaggerated accents. shits pisses me off how we minorities are always depicted as stereotypes rather then normal americans of different ethnic backgrounds.

At 1:01:00 where dave talks about asian identity I agree and disagree on several points for several reasons but ultimately he is right under the correct context. Where I differ is that for some of us Asian Americans we wash our idenity as Asian Americans when we dont understand our relationship to the Asian Diaspora. To be more specific if you're an Asian American of the big 3 ethnic backgrounds that are specifically tied to the Asian Super powered countries like China, Japan, Korea, and Philippines you have almost everything you need at your finger tips to help you define your Asian American Identity just because there are millions upon millions of Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and Filipinos around the world where their cultural and historic narratives are filled with pride down to their clothes to the food they eat and the language they practice. Other minority Asians of the Asian minority will typically have different experiences. I speak from a perspective of a 36 year old Hmong Asian American who didn't get to live in any Asian American communities, in every school after elementary it was difficult to see more than 3 Asians in one classroom. Family reunions were not every season or every year for me. at the age of 15 I could understand bits and pieces of the Hmong mother tongue because being the youngest no one was using the mother tongue around me. This isnt a way for me to cry about how bad things were but as an Adult only within the last 5 years have I gotten in touch with my roots of the culture and language of the Hmong people--and to be honest its still difficult. Its gotten much better for the next generation because they didnt have to deal with the transition and gap between generations for the last 50 years for the Hmong people fighting to survive for a people who dont even recognize we had to bleed and die for the USA before we could even be recognized as citizens of the USA. Growing up for me as Hmong, to put it plainly in history books we barely has 2 paragraphs about the Secret War in Laos which still didnt mention anything about the Hmong People and what they contributed to the American Vietnam War. I'm not saying all this to be bitter or to get fame out of 2 giant paragraphs but being Asian American as an Identity is different for every Asian. Part of the pop culture problem with Asian American Identity and the Asian Pride surrounding the Asian hate topic is that Asian is as problematic as the word Oriental. Its vague and assumes everyone in it has the same plight or pride or problem. Most non Asians dont even realize historically most Asians hated other Asians. You wont see these kinds of problems and narratives with Whites and Blacks because they have had their own narratives in America for hundreds of years and most people don't see the nuances. Just like how Black Americans are not the same as Black Africans from Africa, their origins are from Africa but in America they preach a narrative different than Black Africans. Whites don't get the same type of narrative now as they used to because the white supremacy groups blended other like white skin colors as their own as they originally didn't accept Italians and Eurasians like Russians. TLDR: its complicated because of politics and history but Asian American as an identity is not the same to everyone.
@teovu5557 Жыл бұрын
ethnic russians are not "eurasians" as most Russians live in Eastern europe and the asian region of russia is populated by native asian ethnic groups. lol

I went to a wedding once and the food was fancy but tbh i would have preferred kfc or something. We were eating trees and flowers. We got served, a fried flower as a main course.I am vegetarian (not by choice) but I was going to ask for a boiled potatoe just for something besides leaf bits off a twig sparingly garnished with olive oil. I was thinking they were using the flora and fauna scattered at the venue to serve up to the customers. Im a bloody islander atleast give me a bush and not just a couple of twigs or give me a bouquet of flowers not just 1.

I know you love random research/deep dives, so look into the ADHD; neurodivergence is the minority. I realized my “brutal” honesty was taken as being rude though it was never my intention. Fun fact: you naturally gravitate towards folks like yourself (sounds like common sense, right?) but it’s a MUST. I truly dislike being around people who don’t fit my criteria or as you said ‘theme’. Anyway, much love and I truly appreciate hearing your stories and finding success; gives me hope as a fellow ADHDer!

No hate for David, but I noticed whenever he mentions TikTok it's always negative. I was against TikTok for a while a few years ago, but it's a really great app once the algo really understands your interests/humor which doesn't take long. I guess it's a never-ending cycle as we get older we tend to immediately hate the new stuff and stick with what we know. Before Fb, myspace/aim was made fun of. Then people on Instagram made fun of fb users. Now TikTok and you can see in real-time how Instagram and KZbin are copying with the reels/shorts, but just aren't as good.
