I am a retired Lutheran pastor. I stumbled across these books online a number of weeks ago, and ordered them after a day or two of research on them. I use them everyday as part of my daily office in the morning. Instead of doing several psalms each day, i use only two. One is for praying, and the other is for a deeper dive. Since the books break the psalms down into sections, I spend several days on each psalm (one section/say). I am currently doing the psalms of the crucifixion -- Psalms 22-31. I am currently working through Psalm 24. Good review of very worthwhile and useful books, especially the emphasis on the psalms as Jesus Prayer Book. Thanks to Dr. Webster.

Tim, you should definitely go through the psalms on your KZbin channel as a mini side series. I really enjoyed listening to your take on the prodigal son and would love to listen to your thoughts as you go through the psalms!

If you love these books on the Psalms, you need to read his book on the Parables, entitled "The Parables." He has several other books, too, that are terrific.

Ordered and will find useful as part of morning bible reading and Daily Office routine--the Daily Office contained in the Book of Common Prayer covers the entire Psalter; all 150 Psalms are read every 30 days...so similar to your thoughts...I plan to use these commentaries to do a deep dive into the particular psalm chosen through the Daily Office to enhance both my knowledge and understanding; appreciation and reflection upon that particular day's reading. Thanks! (Postscript: I have found these volumes to be excellent and would most likely never have heard about them but for Tim Wildsmith. This is indeed a great companion guide to the Daily Office and personal devotional time. Read the selected Psalm(s), then open "The Psalms Jesus' Prayer Book" to discover more about that Psalm, then re-reading the Psalm with greater appreciation and insight. Thank you Tim!)

Have this series on the Psalms, and many of Douglas Websters other books. We have gifted at least 10 sets to friends since it was published. Highly recommend to those who want to dig deeper into the Psalms.

I would like to understand the Psalms better and I am very grateful that you chose to review these books. I value your opinion and I purchased The Old and New Testament Handbooks after your review of them. I also purchased the Every Woman's Bible after that review and it is now my every day Bible. I have now placed this set of Psalms in my wish list.

@@timwildsmith Today, I received the four volume set. A beautiful quote from the preface, “There is a rhythm to the worship of the Psalms that alternates between the dark night of the soul and Yahweh’s faithfulness, which is new every morning.”

My wife and I worked nearly 20 years for Kregel (she was an Editor and I managed the Used Books division before its closure) so it was nice to see one of their publications get such a great review from you. . . . and I look forward to obtaining a set at some point. I was never asked for a toilet seat while at Kregel Used Books but i did take a phone call once asking what kinds of beer we sold. 😂

Very cool, Scot... and you know, "Kregel" does sound like it could be the name name of a beer!

I nominate myself to get the CSB Notetaking Bible for my youth pastor or myself if he doesn't want it. He typically uses the ESV most of the time so I don't know if he'll take it or not; but if I win it I'll be sure to put it to good use because I believe that notetakers are world changers and history makers!!!🕊🔥🙏❤😇

Another super-review. I see they are available in Logos but I will wait till they go on sale. I fully support your idea about going through the Psalms. That could be an idea for a membership add-on or a Patreon membership. I am sure there are enough of us who would love to go through this journey with you and experience the Psalms through your words.

Psalms: Jesus’ Prayer Book - Who wouldn’t want psalm of that? 🎉
@sluggo5627 ай бұрын
Would not the correct grammar be "Jesus' prayer book?"
@timwildsmith7 ай бұрын
Either is acceptable. Some style guides, such as the Chicago Manual of Style, recommend that you use an apostrophe *and* an S to create the possessive form of a singular noun.
