Some people are just extremely demented and dangerous. Also, not everyone is blessed to be happy all the time. And unfortunately some of those terrible people control a lot of things. There are many questions and underlying issues that are left unchecked and unanswered regarding human behavior. Even considering all of our history. Money helps but it's not the ultimate approach to living is what I gather from the stories in this franchise. There are many other ideas others can extrapolate on. I'd say it's just best to keep to yourself mostly and mind yourself before you piss off others. You never know how evil one can be. You also never know how generous people can be. You just never know....

The purge would never work and it's not the reason you think. Just imagine you purge or stay locked in house. You have two results. 1. You die Or 2. You survive So best case scenario is you surviving. You along with all the other survivors/purges now have to clean up the town for the next month. The mess would be huge and some business would never bounce back either being looted destroyed or even if the owner just bit the bullet during the purge. Let alone having to work the day after.
