I really like what you guys are doing here. There's no way I'd find a drummer in their 20s or 30s who would say their favourite was "that guy from Queen", but right here you are really showing how a lot of these basic sounds that we take for granted in a genre, actually started somewhere and had someone innovating.

Ive always said that Roger was The most versatile and authentic' drummer of all. Listen to Killer Queen- He sounds like a 30s jazz drummer....uncanny...

Another song to analyse would be Stone Cold Crazy. The way that he used to played (as you can hear in the studio and live version) it's too hard, you need to be fast when you hit the snare xD

You‘re right. That is a fast song

You should maybe do a video on Roger’s great drum solo in “Keep Yourself Alive”. Great stuff. He took it even further live. He’s the best.

at 6:33 Am I the only one who needs a cowbell to play that fill on a live aid version of Crazy little thing called love?

I feel like this is a pretty poor selection of examples. It's kinda like doing a video on what makes James Hetfield's guitar playing so special and then going over something like Enter Sandman. Songs like I'm in love with my car, Dragon Attack, All that jazz, Somebody to love, etc. would have been much better.

100%. The biggest thing about Rog’s playing is the hi-hat open on the snare. Appreciate these are three mega-hit songs, but fml, the hi-hat/snare combo is THE defining Roger Taylor thing that people should know and learn.

Speaking as a HUGE Queen fan and drummer that has basically worshipped Roger's style, I feel like Somebody To Love, Sweet Lady, Great King Rat, and Liar probably would've been my picks for showcasing Roger's style. Roger has spoken of his love for 6/8, and the feel for Somebody To Love is fantastic, the crunchy hi-hat and snare sound is very present there. Sweet Lady has some really interesting rhythms and approaches as it's in 3/4, which is unusual for a rocker type song like that. Great King Rat and Liar were both from much more raw, hungry days, and Roger tended to put more into those older songs, especially live. Liar also has that super percussive driven "All day long" section. Some other songs that could work are like, Now I'm Here, which has a super sick drum solo in its live ending, It's Late which has a very "Roger" sounding triplet fill at the end of the song, and Keep Yourself Alive for obvious reasons. But of course, you have to get in the hits for views. Even if they did want to go with hits, these 3 specifically are really nothing special in Roger's case.

@@milesfernando Great shout with Somebody To Love. A great middle ground of the earlier 70s vibe and his trademark style, as it were. It’s just disappointing as I always feel Queen’s music gets the lazy analysis compared to the other “big bands”. There’s something that each member brings to the table that is woefully overlooked… Brian May being a compositional player with his unreal harmony style, John Deacon’s use of octaves, Freddie’s really aggressive and percussive piano playing etc. Just a shame all this gets overlooked for “hey, look, A Kind Of Magic!!!1!!!1” haha.

I rather play Bohemian Rhapsody on a (planning to get in June 15 this year) Yamaha Recording Custom 1987 (Roger Taylor own one in 1986 during Magic tour which supports their album A Kind Of Magic which is last live concert to feature Freddie Mercury before his death in 1991).

I can`t find any resemblance with the Queen sound. Usually in your videos there is something weird with the mixing, sounds over compressed and bad eq-ing.
