Oh, what I would do to sit down and discuss these topics with Michio Kaku. I share so many of the views, that he has put forth, but beyond that, I just truly, so greatly, admire his amazing and groundbreaking work within the field. He is genuinely one of physics' most exceptional minds; a true pioneer within the field, who has no fears, regarding the expression of his individuality, and personal beliefs, within his work. I commend him, profoundly, for that, alone, but I also love the way he makes a genuine, and humble, effort to maintain a connection to the upcoming minds, in physics. The fact that he takes the time to connect with students, the public, those who have recently just sparked an interest in physics, etc, showcases the fact that, not only is he a one of a kind, brilliant mind in physics, but he is an equally brilliant human being, on a multitude of levels. I dream of someday being presented with an opportunity to speak with him. I have had something in mind for over a year now, that I would love to discuss; as I believe it could contribute, significantly, to the, overall, derivation of a theory of everything. The Einstein quote of "if you can't explain it to a kid, it's probably wrong" doesn't seem to hold when thinking of Quantum Physics? Physicists know the equations work but they don't understand them, and don't understand what the act of making a measurement is. So in this case it seems you can't explain it to a kid nor to an adult, at least with our current understanding. Though there was a metaphor I found nifty to explain quantum bits as a a coin being flipped and turning on the table before stopping, thereby being in both positions at once. But this is just a metaphor for our rickety level of understanding. The current most successful theory in Physics is Quantum and can't really be pictured, and if you take into account the amount of precision and measurements possible using it, the quote becomes less convincing but a nice ideal to strive for.
@cleander973 жыл бұрын
Instead of the bizarre String theory, which is of no use, physicists should be focusing on learning why subatomic particles, ruled by the “spooky” laws of quantum physics, manifest themselves through a completely different set of laws, e.g. relativity, when they come together to form matter. Of course, advancements in our lab instruments are going to play a big role in this. Hopefully then, we can develop a theory for this transition state to show how quantum physics morphs into general theory of relativity.

A good read is "Beyond the hoax" by Alan Sokal about what has happened to physics (esoterization) ,as well as the italian expert on ancient hebrew pointing out how the churches and mosques most probably deliberately falsely translated plural forms pointing to men and rulers in the oldest hebrew texts as "god". Any concept of god or literal gods was always up until today nothing but superstitions and politics merged. That is how you keep an uneducated population obeying the rulers. (which is not always bad of course,but clearly doesn't work well in USA, Russia and Iran as some lousy examples how to keep people ignorant and gradually remove their rights). Skepticism is skepticism. There is no "but" there. Either you are a skeptic or you are not. What is the popularized "theoretical physics" now other than a blend of creationism and new thought fantasies? "String theory". Ok. What does the word string mean. For example relative to a rational meaning of space. Why does one need an extra time on top of already relative motions? (The fourth Einstein dimension = motion in space. It matters little if we talk of stars or particles in that aspect ,or micro strings). The B Greene theory does not treat strings as motionary energy or locality, so no wonder why it got skeptical resistance (!) Consider where Kaku normally appears in TV shows etc ("Ancient aliens" etc) I really can not see where he belongs in a skeptic podcast (unless picking him apart from a to z of course, which has been done and will continue to be done).

If it's a controversy to determine push versus pull for gravity and force of moving objects, then how do we describe any difference? If it's a matter of perspective then it makes none since it will always be relative to the individual circumstance and relationship to the perceptions of those consciously involved in the transaction with observation and analysis. Why do we need to know more than what we do, exactly? If it is harnessing gravity for power, then explain why magnets are not providing the power we need to move things since it is an obvious solution to energy crises. If we need to predict the behavior of gravity then we must be refining a skill that is inevitably going to return us back to our own consciousness, since the depths of its beginnings and ends will take us origination for what we see as all things. If we need to satisfy our curiosity, then what is it we are missing actually? If we need to visit a quantum environment for our quest then we can carry with us the idea that particle physics is the most violent practice in the world. We get together and smash things together for our own morbid curiosity, like locking radioactive equipment up with cats to test our rationale to paradox. Isn't it more important to retain our conscience than to destroy a cat, even in our mind for such a reason? Is there a difference between gravity and the growth of perceptions together in a universal consciousness? There is no quest for a theory of everything. I delivered it to Kaku years ago under the premise he would respond to each and every email as claimed. I dare him to make it into word salad.

Dr. Kaku is such a genius; I’ve followed him for years. One person cannot know everything, of course. But he should not claim he makes no assumptions. He would be surprised to know what’s been recently learned about animals’ abilities and awareness. The word buttons developed by speech pathologists for people, and then dogs, to use prove that dogs do indeed understand the concept of tomorrow, they don’t think we’re dogs, and they are very self aware, just for starters. He’s making inaccurate assumptions, like those made about Koko (sp?) the gorilla before she proved how much she understood through sign language. He should read up before he continues with inaccurate assumptions and stop bragging that he doesn’t make assumptions. With all due respect, he does make inaccurate assumptions. Those are the just the three I know he’s wrong about. Still a genius, just presumptuous.

Wouldn't one be correct in assuming a "Pancakification" on the way towards the center of the black hole if it is a "push" rather than a "pull"? Wouldn't a "push" tend to suggest the furthest point from the source of gravity is affected first? 1:10:20 It’s always great to listen to Michio explain his theories while supporting them with actual data. Not everyone can embrace the fantastical while remaining tethered to the laws of physics. Michael’s on a roll. 😄 I wonder if the most noble quest-a transcendent, immortal alien race could embark upon-is to scour the universe for signs of primitive life. Then, do what’s in their ability to ensure said creatures don’t kill themselves before they can join the club. What if some those science fiction concepts about galactic federations is actually true? 😄 A skeptic says, “Whoa there. Not so fast. Don’t get ahead of yourself. Consider this explanation.” That said, I’m ok with some scientists, physicists, mathematicians, etc. dabbling in the “fun stuff.” But I’d rather those with a specific focus spend most of their time in the lab and crunching numbers. I’d take a skilled agnostic or skeptic (who can keep the rockets coming and going) any day.

That depends on how and why you "crunch numbers" for what reason in which context. Can you point out one thing that Kaku claims he has evidence of, and thus in that case have you examined it skeptically ,or have you read the skeptical inquiry by scholars? There are many groupies out there. That is not very difficult

Regarding your 1'10'20 : The big difference is that both squirrels and humans exist physically and encounter each other. In order to prove that there are beings "a million years" ahead of mankind, one must prove the existence of those *and* how they are "million years" ahead. ;) Where is that proof? (I am not saying it "must" be unlikely) He seems to jump across the major problem also of the needle in the haystack. Ok "1 out of a couple of million species in the galaxy is more advanced or at our level". Now where do start your look for those. We can find out that x number of planets are habitable or can foster evolution. Good start but what if 98 percent of those never got life yet? It isn't like picking up marbles in your garden. Huge distances.... Many many solar systems statistically without life. Sorry to be a boring debunker but : Mankind could even go extinct long before we find any other species. Or before they find us. Most of those who find us, might not even care. Like us vs the squirrels . Thus humans will waste our efforts in speculation and from that grows polytheist superstitions for example . A lot of that today on top of already the stupidity of monotheism

4:55 : The answer is the methodical repeatable approach given the advance of technical equipment and logical reasoning of the data (objectivism). That is what differs science from esoterica and speculative new age ideas. In Kaku's and Hawking's world or offices it has become popular to create an often Modernity/theosophy-like type of hypothesis, and then just "solve" it with creative equations. It should be clear cut to every skeptic that this is not *science*... ;)

(science vs metaphysics : There are never good reasons to assume that nature is inherently "meta"physical... In the beginning we hear a letter from someone (?) suggesting something about dark particles or antiphotons or similar. Well those will have to be proved (!) But it is not necessarily irrelevant at all. Now let us in this context analyze the Kakuish type of claims about "wormholes" : Well how do you get wormholes in space without particles involved, like an ambient charge field dynamic or what ever one could call it...? :) Because from the Kaku/Hawking school concept of cosmology there is no space (just "time-gelly"? That is just the outdated ether theory from the Renaissance, dressed up in a new suit : blobs pushing blobs. Metaphysics not reality....). Well if there is no empy infinite void that we call space ,why are there localities of matter *in* that space... ? (No stable heat death...) To have energy forms in space you need to have a market for that to exist. That market or environment is space the absence of something. So in order to form wormholes ,one must have a presence of physical particles. You can't bend a nothing. If something is bent it is physical .... (!) Proved physicalities (light, mass...) are strictly localities. Some are probably undiscovered... But there is even no proof of wormholes. And probably will never be.)

Wow, this is good stuff! Dr. Shermer, what would also be really interesting is for you to tackle Stephen Meyer's very recent book THE RETURN OF THE GOD HYPOTHESIS, and interview him. Puleeeease!

I like Michio and I've always thought string theory sounded good. But string theory hasn't produced any testable, confirmable theories after 40 years.

In the end, Michio dreams of immortality for the human race. The Copernican principle tells us that we aren't special, and the people on the cutting edge of science, who always sight the Copernican principle, aren't really accepting it. And they are the ones pushing forward to say, "To infinity and Beyond!" Or something like that.

There is something rather than nothing. just because waves cancel each other out on the surface of a pond, doesn't eliminate the calm surface of the pond. "Nothing" does not exist. Zero is absolute ♾️

@46:00... Oh, Sabine Hossenfelder isn't going to like this.
@Bryan-dr5qy3 жыл бұрын
Well Sabine's problem with it is when scientists appeal to beauty for the sake of it when formulating a theory instead of trying to solve a pre-existing problem. Doing the 'right' thing for the 'wrong' reason. I don't really see Michio doing that, because the basis of his commitment to String Theory is the fact that it could have solutions where Einstein's equations give infinities. That's a genuine problem with General Relativity that has yet to be solved. It just so happens that what he means by 'beauty' is symmetry, not in the subjective sense of 'this looks so pretty to me'. So yeah, I can understand both Michio's and Sabine's points of view completely on this and it's an interesting thought.

The moment a particle is a wave; it has to be a conscious wave! Gravity is the conscious attraction among waves to create the illusion of particles, and our experience-able Universe. Max Planck states: "Consciousness is fundamental and matter is derived from Consciousness". Life is the Infinite Consciousness, experiencing the Infinite Possibilities, Infinitely. We are "It", experiencing our infinite possibilities in our finite moment. Our job is to make it interesting!

What if the aliens said, “Let’s play a game with Michael. Copy him and pit the copy against him in a debate. This Michael has to gather all of the data he can to argue why God exists while the copy argues why God doesn’t exist.” Imagine the mental gymnastics the two would have to play since they could anticipate the others counter. That would be a mixed mental arts fight for the ages. 😄

God is imaginary. Your idea of god is real to you but to everyone else it is imaginary. My idea of god is imaginary from your perspective. Our ideas of god are imaginary. If we disregard our ideas of god, since our ideas of god are all god is, then god stops existing. God is imaginary. "I bring forth all that is good and all that is evil, I create all that is light and all that is dark. I, thy Lord, God, do all these things." ~Isaiah 45:7 We call that "random chance". The word "Lord" means "The one in charge of the bread" but it does not rain bread and bread is made by humans, and every culture and region has different kinds of bread and has different reasons for different breads, so I think bread must be controlled by humans who used their imaginations to invent and develop it differently all over the world. And I think that as of the Lord, so too of God

She’s a nut case. A true scientist has an open mind, that’s why science only evolves one scientist death at a time, taking their constrained beliefs with them. Of course real science is done by outsiders and heretics. Learn scientific history, you’ll learn it’s people like Sabine that hold science back. 🤡🤡🤡🌍🌍🌍

Stringtheory and gravity was built into our dna and body plans; we have a need to move against gravity. String theory is built into the gravity by our strings = brain nerves and heart vessels. Were built in string gravity supersoace. Thats how to prove the model of m.kaku. Maybe we'll all turn into steven hawking clones in the far future. Then we're beyond strong theory . Kaku is Buddha all the way/ good video.

QM is not "the most accurate" - it might be the most precise. For example, QM physicists have failed to understand basic logic when considering Schrodinger's cat. Schrodinger's cat shows that quantum superposition creates a contradiction. Contradiction gives the only objective basis for the concept of "wrong". Therefore, Schrodinger's cat shows that quantum superposition is wrong in some way. It cannot be used to argue for extra dimensions or extra universes - etc. It only shows that quantum superposition is wrong. Considering then that QM relies on quantum superposition, QM could be improved by simply acknowledging that instead of quantum superposition - states ostensibly described by quantum superposition are unknown. Correctly acknowledging this unknown makes QM more accurate.

There is no such thing as a single equation. It's a combination of equations + Bible + our genom etc. But the most important thing is the following: WHATEVER WE PERCEIVE AS UNIVERSE IS NOT MULTIVERSE. There is no need to create additional 'verses' and dark matter to explain how the Universe works! It's enough to look around and connect dots. And that's the essence of it.
