@xevious25013 жыл бұрын
WHen you really think about it, its rather understandable all the hubub in regards to contracts. Mercedes is Mercedes.. theyre not going broke any time soon, and Lewis has not only proved himself worthy of whatever he's asking for, He has a hand in mercedes success. They made the car, he drove it to victory. So what you would expect is a level of fairness in whatever the two are asking for. But what im betting is that lewis is not asking for what a driver would normally want. Least we forget. in sports we think of the highest paid athlete as being something astonishing in terms of wealth. but the fact is.. the team owners and investors make WWWAAAAYYYY more money than their players. Toto himself wanted to move on from mercedes or at best not be in the role he's currently in.. his contract deal has seen him to a percentage share in the company!!!!! thats way better than some raise. And i wouldnt doubt lewis is also looking for something far more substantial than just a driver pay raise. A percentage in the company is where the truly big money is at. That the sorta money that sets you up for life. And its their where a company even as big as mercedes could get itchy over. Lewis success gains the company far more wealth than he receives himself. This divergence in the midst of great success for both athlete and team is nothing new in F1 nor sports as a whole. Its when both team and athlete reach a plateau where both begin to see themselves as the key factor to their success. The Team would say its us, because we're providing the best car and team on the grid. and the Driver, no matter how good the car it doesn't win races on its own. The team begins to think their car is so great any driver could win at a rate that would still see them to a championship. The Driver/racer understands not every driver is a racer, and neither are guaranteed a championship. This back and forth is usually what destroys a good team driver relationship. Arrogance. when in fact they both need one another. neither can be undervalued. And the idea of injecting a driver that will change the fate of a team is never a sure thing. So it becomes a bit of a dance when greatness has been achieved and going forward is working for that cherry on the top. after all its a once in a lifetime opportunity to get it right for yourself.

I’m a new f1 fan so I don’t have much historical perspective, but it doesn’t make sense, to me, why so many people are assuming Lewis Hamilton is going to retire so soon. He seems to still be at peak performance and he’s very socially aware and sees the impact he has on influencing social movements like Black Lives Matter. I’m an American so the comparison my mind immediately goes with is Lebron James, Lewis retiring right now would be like lebron retiring in 2018 when he left Cleveland. Obviously a formula 1 driver and NBA player are very different style of athletes, but both players are older generational greats who still have gas in the tank in their respective fields, AND have profound social impact. Lebron continued with a new team to be still successful on the court, and more successful in public outreach and media attention than ever before. I don’t see why Lewis wouldn’t do something similar, but in a new set of regulations as opposed to a new team

I fully expected HAM to be itching to drive the new cars in 2022 and that it would be reflected in a new deal at least 2 years long. The fact that it's a 1-year deal suggests they aren't anywhere near done negotiating and that items such as owning a stake in the team are in the picture. It is also highly likely much of the current deal isn't acceptable for one of the parties for a duration longer than the single year currently agreed.

Retirement before 2022 would be cowardly. If you claim to be the best, then it shouldn't matter if regulations change for the better of the sport. I could see retiring if you disagree with a rule that is a gimmick, or if you believe that there is unfair advantages given out to some, but I really don't think that this is the case at this point in time. He clearly just doesn't want to risk getting stuck with an advantage any less than what his current car has, which is huge. This is why a lot of these drivers avoid spec series and series with BOP.

Max, Leclerc, and even Lewis all did similar things but it's easy for most people to see past. When you see a driver consistently pushing their car above what is expected like Max did at STR and even at RB, Leclerc did at Alfa and even Ferrari this year, and George has been showing his potential in a williams. Incidents are expected for any young driver and of course they are going to be amplified when the driver is pushing the car so hard.
